Chapter five: Gunning for it
I wake up in a raw state after yesterdays training and also with a massive headache from Aces nagging. Like honestly all he can do is be an asshole about every little thing especially when it comes to his precious technology. He mainly just belittled me instead of teaching me, but that doesn't surprise me. Ace isn't a patient teaching type like Foxy is. Foxy may have been harsh as well, but at least she praised me when I did well. Even when I did figure out some of the hacking he was talking about, he still kept putting me down. I have a feeling nothing impresses him except himself when he looks in the mirror. Typical egotistical asshole type just like most of the gang leaders I know. Funny enough he would freak out at being compared to such "street rats." I already know there's nothing I can do ever to make him talk respectfully to me, so I'm not even going to bother trying.
I force myself out of bed, groaning as I do. My whole body feels like it's on fire and my lack of nutrition over the years isn't helping. I'm annoyed by how these asshats trained before trying to nourish my body back to health first. It's basically like throwing a rock at a baby stick; it's going to be damaged. I get up and find that some more clothes have been left; actually, a big pile of clothes has been left. Having my own clothes to change into every day and not wear dirty clothes makes me extremely happy. Heck, just the thought of not having to worry if I'll be able to eat or not makes me ecstatic. If they just fed me and did nothing else I'd be satisfied.
I take a plain black t-shirt and a pair of faded skinny jeans along with my black sneakers and head to the bathroom. As soon as I go under the sweet hot shower water, my whole body melts. I flinch a little when the water hits my tender spots, but then it just soothes my body. I get out after ten minutes and change into my clothes. I'm already dreading what type of training I'll be doing today. Hopefully, it'll be something more natural on my body.
I head to the cafeteria already smelling food which means it has to be still early morning because I can smell bacon. It's funny even after not eating the stuff for years I can always remember the smell. I walk inside the room and thankfully no Ace, but then again he doesn't seem like the moring type. The only people I see are Gunner and Foxy. I'm guessing the others don't like mornings too much either. I've gotten used to getting up early over the years, trying to get a head start on finding wallets so I could eat over the next few weeks. Also so I could avoid the gangs in the area since most seemed to come out at night.
After grabbing a tray, I sit down next to Foxy since I feel more comfortable around her.
"So you ready for your next step in training?" Gunner asks me with a sly grin.
" Not especially after yesterdays exercise routine." I groan.
" I'm sorry to say, but today you're going to be just as sore," Gunner says with a wink.
"Ewwww don't be gross Gun." Foxy scowls at him.
" Oh come on I was just talking about the combat aspect of his training," Gunner says giving her a mischevious look.
"Combat training?" I ask slightly pouting.
" Aww you're so cute when you pout," Gunner says leaning over to pinch my cheek as I glare at him.
" Ugh, is that at least the only training I'm doing today?" I question.
" Nope, I'm also training you in shooting today," Gunner says happily.
" Wait you're the one training me today?" I ask slightly shocked.
" Duh, I mean my names Gunner and the thing you're being trained in is guns and combat." He says exasperatedly.
" Well my bad, I didn't want to stereotype you just because of your build and name," I say holding my hands up in surrender.
"Oh, so you noticed my body huh?" Gunner smirks.
"Leave him, alone Gunner, he's not interested," Foxy says rolling her eyes.
" Well, Ace told me we were exactly his type." He shrugs nonchalantly.
I see Foxys face morph into something unreadable, but before I can decipher it, it changes. This new expression says that Greg and her will talk later when I'm not around. I can tell it has something to do with Ace. Foxy seems to harbor a more rooted hatred towards Ace than anyone else here expect maybe Gunner.
"Anyway, I guess we better get started with your training now," Gunner says quickly changing the subject. While I want to know exactly what's going on, I know that they won't tell me anything. I'll just have to figure it out on my own.
We clean up and head to shooting range first. I spend rigorous hours learning the basics of shooting which apparently I'm actually a natural at compared to everything else I've done so far. It makes me feel good to at least have one other thing I'm good at especially beside stealing. Being thought of as just a thief doesn't sit well with me. I used to do it just for survival, but I could tell I'd be applying for a whole lot more now.
Gunner was actually really sweet and way more easy going than even Foxy had been with training. Which is strange because I thought he'd be just as harsh as Ace. Okay, not as severe but at least somewhat brutal. After we did a little bit more Target practice, we actually took a lunch break.
" Wow unlike Foxy or Ace you actually give me breaks." I gasp.
" Well, Foxy is just protective over you and wants your prepared for the mission." Gunner laughs.
" And Ace?" I ask even though I already know the answer.
" Ace just came out the womb an asshole." Gunner rolls his eyes.
" So it would seem; honestly I don't understand why he wants everyone to hate him."
" Ace is a mystery that many have tried to solve, but no one has succeeded expect almost one person." He says but mutters the last part.
" What do you mean expect one person?" I ask wondering what mad genius almost figured out a dick like Ace.
" Doesn't matter, it's not important." Gunner sighs.
" Oh come on, you can't mention something like that and then not tell me!" I plead.
" Listen Ace is a horrible person that's all you need to know." Gunner gets up throwing his food away.
"Anyway let's move on to combat aspect of your training." Gunner grins evilly.
I groan but get up and follow him to what will probably be another body torture training sessions. On the way, I keep thinking about who it could be or if it could even be one of them. There are other teams, and that seems more likely the answer because I doubt the Chief would keep them on the same team. These thoughts are soon forgotten when Gunner starts knocking me down to the ground over and over again.

I know it's a short chapter but I'm finally back into writing again and I even went back and edited the chapters.
