Reason and Power
I found myself in an ancient looking world, with gladiator statues and temples. It was quite magnificent, but I didn't have time to admire the scenery. The feel of Unversed was all around me. Thankfully they were only low leveled Unversed that looked like Jellyfish, but there were thousands of them.
"Guess I have no choice," I said summoning my Keyblade.
I looked at my Keyblade for a moment remembering that I didn't even earn this power, it was just a tool given to me.
"Look out!" cried out a voice.
Snapping out of my train of thought I noticed three of the Unversed charging for me, I quickly leaped into the air and like a wheel I spun using my Keyblade to attack the Unversed.
"That was too close," I thought as a boy with short reddish brown hair and a white toga ran up besides me.
"Are you ok?" he asked.
"Yeah, thank you," I greeted, then we noticed that the Unversed were still coming our way.
"Let's get'em!" said the boy as he stood ready with his fists in front of him.
"You sure?" I asked, "They're dangerous."
"Of course," said the boy, "After all a true hero never runs from danger."
Before I could say anything, the boy charges for five of the Unversed and easily destroyed them one by one as he charged through them.
"Woah," I thought, "Guess he'll be okay then...Time to focus on my own fight now."
I pointed my Keyblade at the Unversed and prepared to fight. As if an unknown instinct had kicked in, I knew exactly what to do.
"Stopga!" I shouted as I froze many of the Unversed in time.
I then took a step back began to gather energy from light into my feet. Once I got the energy I needed, I bolted at the Unversed, destroying them before they had a second to think. I turned to the boy seeing he was about to get attacked from behind.
"Reflega!" I screamed and a light force field appeared around him.
The Unversed bounced off the shield and were intently destroyed as I used my Keyblade to finish them. He gave me a thumbs up as thanks, then as if an imaginary light bulb appeared over his head, he had an idea.
"How long can you hold that up?" he asked.
"What are you thinking?" I asked.
"Trust me, it'll work," he said smiling.
"Alright," I said activating the spell and put it around the boy, "Whatever you're planning to do, I suggest to do it fast. I can only hold the spell for maybe 5 minutes tops."
"Got it! Here I go!" said the boy as he started to run with the force field spinning around with him, destroying Unversed in his path.
I got excited seeing that the plan was working, but in my excitement I lost concentration and the spell deactivated. The boy tripped as the spell faded and was left stranded in the middle of the Unversed. The Unversed saw the opportunity to attack and charged for the boy.
I panicked and screamed, "NOOOO!!!"
At that moment, I felt something inside of me growing stronger and stronger. The light from inside had responded to my fear and began to engulf the area in a blinding light. Once the light had finally faded, all the Unversed were gone, and the boy was safe. I knelt to the ground looking at my hands in awe and fear.
"Did..I just..do that?" I asked myself, "No, that wasn't me. That was the light given to me. It wasn't me."
"That was amazing!" said the boy walking over to me, "You got rid of those monsters like it was nothing! Your power is incredible!"
"I guess," I said clenching my fists, "But what good is this power if I can't control it."
There was silence between us until the boy smacked himself in the head, "Oh I forgot to introduce myself, I'm Hercules and I'm training to become a true hero."
"Deli," I greeted.
"Nice to meet you," said Hercules, "Say Deli, I think I kinda understand how you feel. I mean back in the town I grew up in I was ridden of as a freak, because of my strength. On top of it all, I couldn't really control it. That is until I met Phil and he's helping me to control my strength so one day I can become a true hero."
"A true hero?" I muttered.
"Hey Deli, I've got an idea!" said Hercules, "Why don't you sign up for the Games?"
"The Games?" I asked, "What is that?"
"What!?" Don't tell me you've never heard of them," said Hercules, "It's a big tournament to decide who's the strongest. For most people, like me, it's a good training ground, to see how much better I've gotten. You should try it out for yourself."
"I..I don't know," I said uncertainly, "I mean I'm not sure if I even want to fight anymore."
"Come on don't say that," said Hercules, "At least give it a shot."
"Well...ok, I'll try," I agreed.
"Alright! Let's get to Phil to sign up," said Hercules, "He's in the Colosseum up ahead. Let's go!"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As we entered the Colosseum, the cheers of the crowds could be heard from the vestibules. The sudden cheer made my heart stop.
"Must be pretty intense out there," I thought as we stopped in front of what looked like a half goat and half man creature.
"Hey Phil!" cried Hercules getting the creatures attention.
"What's all the ruckus about Herc? Can't you see I'm working here?" said the goat-man.
"Deli, this is Phil, the Trainer of Heroes," introduced Hercules.
"Trainer of Heroes? Is there such a thing?" I wondered.
"Phil we were wondering if you could sign us up for the Games," asked Hercules.
"Both of yah?" asked Phil who was looking toward me, "Sorry Herc, but no can do. You've got training to complete."
"Oh yeah that's right," Hercules said disappointed, "Oh well guess, I'll come watch you when I'm done. Ok Deli?"
"Alright," I nodded.
"See you later!" said Hercules as he left to train.
"I'm afraid I can't sign you up for the Games either," said Phil.
"Why not?" I asked.
"You don't have the spark," he said.
"Spark?" I asked.
"You don't have a true purpose for fighting," he answers, "I can tell and if I sign you up for the Games, you'll only get beaten down. Sorry kid, maybe when you've got a reason to fight, I'll sign you up, but for now the answers no."
"But..." I tried to say before Phil left, but I stopped myself knowing he was right. I didn't want to fight anymore, what's the point? I'll just be following the path that was laid out for me. I want to find my own path, one that wasn't set out for me.
I pondered this as I left the vestibules to the town, "Maybe I should go, it seems like if I stay I'll only end up fighting the Unversed."
As the words left my mouth, I felt darkness behind me. I quickly turned around and found myself being surrounded by the lesser Unversed.
"Not again," I whined, "Why won't you just leave me alone!?"
Suddenly a boy in a gray helmet charged in hacking away at them with his sword until there was nothing left.
"Piece of cake!" bragged the boy and then turned his attention toward me, "You alright?"
I nodded, "Thank you."
"No problem, after all what kind of hero would I be if I couldn't handle a couple of monsters?" he said taking off his helmet revealing his black spiky hair and blue eyes, "I'm Zack. What's your name?"
"My name's Deli," I replied then he got real close to my face as if he was studying me.
"You know you look like the kind of person who could take care of those monsters," Zack said, "So why didn't you?"
"Because...I don't want to fight anymore," I said as I start to cry, "That's what I'm told to do, is fight those things. Did anyone ever think to ask if I even wanted to? I didn't chose this."
"But something chose you to do this," said Zack.
"What?" I asked confused.
"As a hero we don't get to decide whether or not we wanted to be a hero, we just are," explained Zack, "Because something wanted us to be. Or think of it this way, what ever chose you to do this, thought you're the only one capable of achieving it. So in other words they're depending on you."
"They're depending on me?" I asked.
Before Zack could answer Phil was running toward us, "This is bad."
"What's wrong?" asked Zack.
"Pyros appeared in the Colosseum..*pant*..the contestants couldn't beat em," explained Phil, "Someone's got to stop it..*pant*..before it gets to the town...I'm getting too old for this.."
"Sounds like a job for a hero!" cheered Zack, "You aren't going to let that thing destroy the city are you, Deli?"
"But..do you really need my help?" I asked.
"Course I do," smiled Zack, "You said yourself, this is what you're born to do."
"Ok," I nodded, "Let's go!"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As we made our way to the Colosseum, I felt something eerie, making me stop. I looked around and found a guy dressed in a black toga, with blue skin and fiery blue hair. The darkness I sensed in him, was very similar to Maleficent's.
"This is perfect! Just perfect!" said the man, "Now I'll just let Pyros do his thing, while I sit back and enjoy the show."
"Are you responsible for the Colosseum attack?" I asked.
The guy glared at me as he turned around to see who was talking to him, but then evilly smiled, "Why yes I am, Sunshine. Hades, Lord of Dead, how you doing? So now you know, what are you going to do about it?"
"I'm going to stop it!" I answered, then suddenly Hades appeared behind me.
"You? Stop Pyros? This I have to see," mocked Hades, "You see Sunshine, you don't seem like the kind of person who could handle a job like this. Don't get me wrong, appearances can be deceiving, but yours doesn't even come close to deceiving. So I wouldn't waste my time, fighting a battle you can't possibly win. Cao!"
"Wait! Get back here!" I yelled, but I was too late Hades was already gone, "What did he mean I couldn't handle a job like this?"
"Deli!" called Zack as he just noticed I had stopped, "Where'd you go?"
"I was.." I started.
"Look I told you, something's depending on you to stop this," encouraged Zack, "So let's go and kick some Pyros butt!"
"Right," I said, then I felt the presence of Unversed coming, "Incoming!"
As I said that the Unversed surrounded us, before one of them could attack Zack destroyed it.
"I've got this! You get to the Colosseum and stop Pyros!" yelled Zack.
"I can't leave you to fight alone!" I argued.
"Don't worry about me I can handle these guys and be there to help you in no time," said Zack.
"Be careful," I said running into the vestibules.
Before entering the Colosseum, I felt an extreme amount of heat coming from the arena.
"So hot," I thought, "I'm not even in there and I'm roasting. Maybe I should use my armour to help?"
Pushing the button on my chest, I summoned my armour and entered the Colosseum. Inside a large lava like monster towered above the Colosseum wrecking the arena.
"Time to fight!" I said summoning my Keyblade catching the attention of Pyros.
I threw my Keyblade into the air and it transformed into my glider. As my glider approached, Pyros fired some lava bombs at me. At the last second, my glider reached me, allowing me to dodge the lava bombs.
"That was too close for comfort," I said relieved, "Now how do I even attack something like this. If I had some ice magic, that could possible help, but Aqua was the only one good at those. So what do I do?"
Pyros then opened it's mouth to fire a stream of lava towards me.
"Ah crud!" I said as I tried to fly away from the shot, however he continued to follow me firing the lava he finally gave up, "That was close."
Pyros wasn't done however, and created multiple lava hands from it's body. The hands reached for me, I tried to avoid them, but one of them hit my glider, causing me to spin out of control. Panicked I tried to steady myself, then right before I hit the ground I managed to level myself out.
"I can't get close to it without getting hurt or worse," I thought, "There has to be a way.......Wait! I got it!"
Pyros's hands came for me again, but I was ready for them and dodged them as I charged for Pyros's main body.
"REFLEGA!" I shouted as the shield appeared around me and the glider, still charging for the main body.
I dove inside and stopped in the middle of the lava, switching my glider to my Keyblade, I closed my eyes.
"By the power of the light inside me, give me strength!" I called, as the light inside of me began to grow like before only stronger.
The light grew brighter and brighter until it engulfed the whole arena, Pyros struggled against it's power, but was unable to defend against it and faded into the light. When I opened my eyes, my armour had faded away, and I saw Zack coming out of the vestibules in amazement.
"Not bad for a fellow hero," he smiled as he came over to see me.
Before I could respond, my body felt numb and I collapsed to the floor. I used too much energy with that trick and needed to rest. As I slept I dreamt of one of my training sessions with Master Eraqus.
"Are you ready Deli?" asked Master Eraqus readying his Keyblade.
"Uh...I..I..think so," I replied with shaken Keyblade in hand.
"Then let's begin. Light!" he called out firing multiple light spears at me.
"Reflega!" I called hoping to defend against it this time, but the spell didn't activate and the light spears hit me sending me to the ground once again.
I sat up off the floor crying in frustration and confusion, "What...What am I doing wrong?"
"You don't believe in yourself," answered Master Eraqus, "If you don't believe you can do it, then the spell won't work. You must have confidence in yourself Deli. As a Keyblade Master, you'll have to be confident in what you're doing and believe in your skills. Tell me Deli why did you want to learn to use the Keyblade?"
"Because..*sniff* I want to be a Keyblade Master, with Ven, Aqua, and Terra someday," I answered.
"You can't just want it, my dear," said Master Eraqus, "You have to believe it, and make it a reality. And to make it a reality, you have to remember you're true reason for fighting. Come now, let's try it again once more."
I nodded and prepared for the light spears, "Just believe I can do it."
"Light!" Master Eraqus called again as the light spears came charging for me.
"And I can do it!" I thought, "Reflega!"
That was the first time, I ever used Reflega, and it would not be the last. For I had a different reason for needing it, I wanted to protect my friends from any kind of danger that would await us. I think Master Eraqus knew that right from the start.
As I open my eyes, my blurred vision, showed the image of a blond haired boy I'd know anywhere.
"Ven?" I asked.
"Ven? Who's Ven?" asked a familiar voice, "I think she's more exhausted than we thought."
When my vision normalized, it turned out to be Zack. I looked around, to find myself in the vestibule, with Zack and Hercules.
"Deli! You're alright!" cheered Hercules running beside me, " Zack told me everything. I'm so sorry you had to go through all that."
"It's fine Hercules," I said, "In fact I'm feeling better than ever. Thanks to you two."
Zack and Hercules seemed very confused by this, making me smile.
"Thanks to you guys, I finally remembered what my purpose for fighting is," I thanked, "Yeah it sucks not being able to chose my own path, but who else is going to take it if not me. It's what I am."
"See I'd knew you'd catch on!" agreed Zack.
"There's still a lot of things I'm unsure about being a Guardian of Kingdom Hearts and I'm not sure that I'm ready for it yet," I thought, "But for now, I guess, I should keep doing what I know needs to be done."
