CHAPTER VI: COWARD

Sa huli ay hindi ko rin nagawa ang bagay na iyon kay Damian...

I guess... I was still scared...

Or that I was just a coward...

"What do you want to do? Gusto mo bang ihatid kita sa inyo..." He asked me gently.

I looked at him. He doesn't look mad na hindi ako pumayag na may mangyari sa amin, and instead he's just being more careful around me now.

"You can also just stay here for the night. It's already late... Uh, only if you want to?"

"And, oh, how about dinner? Are you hungry?" Parang hindi pa siya magkandaugaga sa mga sunudsunod niyang tanong sa akin.

And then I ended up smiling at him. Sa kabila ng lahat ay parang unti-unti rin gumaan ang kalooban ko. Damian loosened up after a while, too. Then he also smiled at me.

He's right that it was already really late at night. Magmamadaling-araw na nga rin. Kanina ay nakakain na rin naman kami ng dinner sa labas. But we also ended up having some midnight snack and we even watched some movie before we have both fallen asleep at his place...

DAMIAN

I watched her as she peacefully sleep beside me. Walang nangyari sa amin kagabi and we only slept. I realized that she was too scared to do it with me after all...

And she may just be the first woman who's scared to have sex with me...

Because all the other women in the past... they were all the same...

"Hello, boy..."

Nag-angat ako ng tingin sa isang lalaking kinausap ako. I was still at the night club. I grew up here. My mother was working here until she just passed away recently...

The man smiled at me kindly. His wife already tried talking to me a while ago but I remained my head bowed and my eyes down. I wasn't comfortable to talk with any other female. The truth was they scared me...

Kahit pa ang mama ko ang kasama kong nagpalaki sa akin sa lugar na 'to, she just lacked affection for me. It was more like I was only there because there was no other place for me.

Ngayon naman ay ang asawang lalaki na ang kumausap sa akin. Nagpakilala siyang si Don Antonio Delgado. And I was told that he's my grandfather. He's the father of my dad whom I never even met. And I just learned that he already passed away, too.

The woman who gave birth to me just passed away because of a sexual disease...

"What's your name?" I was asked by the man in front of me now who's also my grandparent.

I slowly opened my lips to speak. Pero sa huli ay umiling din ako. When I was younger I didn't have a proper name. Kahit ang ina na siyang nagluwal sa akin ay hindi ako binigyan ng pangalan. The other workers in the club liked me... because I was a handsome child...

At sa huli nang paalis na ako sa lugar na iyon ay tiningnan ko pa ang mga mukha nila na mukha silang nalulungkot dahil aalis na ako...

I looked away from them and looked straight ahead of me instead.

They were all the same...

The couple who went to the night club who took me were my grandparents. I was still a small child when they took me in and they gave me my name—Damian Axel Delgado.

And it took me a long time to adjust to my new life as Damian Delgado and Don Antonio Delgado and Donya Maria's grandson.

Donya Maria... She was the first ever woman who really cared about me and like a real family. And I realized that she wasn't like or one of those women at the club who only used to abuse the child that I was...

Isa rin sa nakatulong sa akin ay ang naging kababata ko na rin na si Millie. We grew up together. Sabay kaming pinalaki nina lolo at lola sa Delgado mansion. And since then life has been better for me...

Pero minsan ay dumarating pa rin sa buhay ko ang mga pagkakataon na parang binabalikan pa rin ako ng nakaraan ko...

Kali was still asleep next to me in my bed. Hindi na lang din namin namalayan kagabi na nakatulog na rin pala kami nang magkatabi because we also watched a movie last night.

I smiled a little for the last time na napagmasdan ko siyang matulog ngayon. Then I carefully got myself out of bed. It was still a bit early in the morning. I wanted to cook us breakfast but I remember that I was not a cook. At hindi naman talaga ako marunong magluto. Napailing na lang ako sa sarili ko.

In the end I changed my clothes to something I wear when I go out jogging and exercising a bit. At habang nasa labas ay doon na rin ako bumili ng coffee at food for breakfast namin ni Kali.

And when I went back in my condo I took a shower first. At saktong pagkatapos ko ay gising na rin si Kali. Binati ko siya ng isang magandang umaga. "Good morning, Kali." I smiled at her.

Bahagya rin siyang ngumiti sa akin at inayos-ayos niya pa ang bed hair niya. And she looks so cute doing that. She's an adorable woman. "Good morning..." She slowly greeted me, too.

Ngumiti lang muli ako sa kaniya. Pagkatapos ay niyaya ko na rin siyang mag-breakfast kami. "I already bought us coffee," I said, at medyo nakaramdam din ako ng konting hiya dahil hindi ko man lang siya maipagluto ng breakfast while she's at my place...

Naipilig ko na lang ang ulo ko.

"Can I... use your bathroom first?" She asked for permission.

Tumango naman agad ako sa kaniya. "Sure. Feel at home." Ngumiti muli ako sa kaniya.

Pagkatapos ay bahagya lang din siyang ngumiti sa akin pabalik. At hinayaan ko na muna siyang makigamit sa bathroom ko. While I go out of my room to prepare the food on the table in the kitchen.

Kali and I had breakfast together. And I'm just glad that she liked the coffee I bought for her.

At pagkatapos ay hinatid ko na rin siya sa bahay niya after that.
