Chapter 48
MAJOR T R I G G E R W A R N I N G
SENSITIVE THINGS AND SCENES Y'ALL. A BETTER-CENSORED SUMMARY OF WHAT HAPPENED WILL BE AT THE BOTTOM.
Third person pov
Something was wrong, and Ethelia could tell. It didn't feel necessarily dangerous. Like she was going to be chased down a dark street. People were out, and the sun was too, and things seemed almost fine. Almost. She felt like a fucking idiot for not knowing, though she wasn't sure how she would know. She was a hermit who'd camped out on the couch with a boy that was about fifty types of idiotic smashed into one.
She turned onto her street, and she blinked when she saw several people crowded around her house. The Uchiha Police force had set up tape, and she immediately knew someone must have called the police on her father. She was willing to bet it was Mark. The idiot heard everything. That, or her dad had left the stove on again.
She rushed along, pushing through the crowd and ducking under the tape. Immediately, she came face-to-chest with one of the officers. She was tall, and glared at her like she'd just crossed over into the enemy territory and was a traitor of some kind. "Behind the line please, kid." She demanded, pointing over Ethelia's shoulder. The brunette was too tired to freeze and awkwardly try to stutter up a response.
"I live here." She sighed dryly, twisting around the woman and continuing towards the door. She heard the woman take in a sharp breath of air, but the gravity-defying girl was already climbing the steps and pulling open the rickety screen door. The inner door was wide open, and there were a few police officers lingering inside, talking. They froze when they saw her enter.
"Hey, you really shouldn't be in here." The man said as Ethelia surveyed the damage in the living room. Is wasn't as bad as she thought it was last night: just some broken dishes, an overturned coffee table, and what looked like a smashed potted plant. Wherever that had come from. She really didn't want to know.
"I live here." She said, shuffling farther into the house. A hand clamped down on her shoulder, and she looked up to see the woman from before. She looked panicked, her cheeks flushed.
"Ma'am, you should really step outside. We need to tell you something." Her voice was soft compared to the stern tone she'd used before, and sounded almost as though it was shaky. Ethelia's heart nearly stopped, her grimace dropping into something flatter and more concerned. She tried to turn around, but the woman's grip tightened. The woman looked nearly scared.
"What is it? What happened?" Her eyes narrowed. Had the refrigerator fallen on Mark again? Because if it had, he wasn't dead. He was just too lazy to get it off.
"You don't need to see this, kid." One of the other officers said. Ethelia felt herself turn on reflex. The two officers that had already been inside cried out something, moving to try and block her view, but it was too late, she'd already seen.
H...Hanging.
Her breath hitched, and she felt the world around her come to a complete halt. The panicked voices of the officers faded into the background, and she didn't register their hands tugging at her, urging her towards the door. She stayed rooted in place despite that, though she swore she was getting lighter and lighter the longer she stared.
He was such a tall man, his feet were nearly touching the ground. He was lifeless. Limp. Her hands began to shake, staring with wide eyes at her father. Why had he- h-had her becoming a ninja really had such an effect on him? W...Was he really depressed enough, or upset enough, to... to do this?
"D-Dad?" Her voice cracked, and she found herself pulling against the officers to try and approach him. When they didn't let go, their hands like vines wrapping around her and holding her back, a small pulse of chakra escaped her. It was miniscule- just barely leaking out- but it was enough to send the three Uchiha officers flying. The woman crashed into the wall by the front door, while the other two went flying across the living room.
Her hands shook as she approached her dad, and it almost felt like this was some sort of twisted dream. No... no, not a dream. More like a hazed nightmare. It didn't feel real, and her body felt indescribably cold as she stumbled up to her father, who hung from the antique light fixture in the kitchen. The one that ate through light bulbs so fast they always swore to simply buy an extra lamp, or to just stop buying them all together. But they never did. They always replaced the bulb. The always replaced it. They just... They always replaced the bulb.
Her hand touched his wrist, and she flinched, violently, at how cold it was. A ripple of chakra escaped her, sending the furniture around her flying into walls. She could hear the calls of the officers as her chakra began to fluctuate dangerously. Her eyes went to the piece of folded paper held lightly in her father's stiff hand, and she reached for it before she could register.
The paper crumbled in her hand as her fists clenched. Her nails dug into her palms so hard that droplets of blood began to appear as she gazed up at her dead father in a daze. Again, a wave of chakra, this one larger, rippled out as she gazed up at his face. His eyes were open and glassy, and his beard was... longer. He never let it get that long. He looked too much like a bear, and he hated it. It would scare the kids, and he didn't want to scare them. Of course he didn't want to scare them. That's why he never let his beard get that long. That's why he never let it get that long.
Another jolt of chakra escaped her, and the shattering of everything glass in the vicinity sent her swirling back into reality. She took a gasping breath of air, stumbling away from the hanging corpse like it had burned her, her eyes wide and teary. She could hear the shouts of the three police officers, and the commotion outside as she backpedaled away from him, her chest rising and falling at a rapid pace.
Her father... had committed suicide.
It hit her like a train, but she restrained her chakra this time. She clenched her teeth and tightened her fists as the power inside of her fought against her. Her breathing was erratic, and tears were falling from her eyes so fast they were more like streams than droplets. She had to control herself. She had to control herself so that she didn't blow herself and everyone else in this village up.
Her chakra bounced, like a ball, in its cage. It shot from wall to wall, making dents and cracks in the surface as Ethelia haphazardly crashed through the screen door, nearly falling down the steps as she stumbled out onto the lawn. She dry heaved, eyes wide with absolute horror. Her entire body shook like a leaf in the wind, and she was sure she was pale as a sheet.
She didn't know why. The note was in her hands, but she knew she couldn't read it right now. Her dad had just... he had just... she couldn't ask questions right now. She just couldn't. She knew she would blow up if she tried, and that was the last thing she wanted to do. She was such a fuck up already. She hadn't been able to make friends at school, and she could fly even though nobody else could. And then she'd become a ninja and instead of telling her father about it, her dumbass had lied, and now he was dead. He was... he was dead, and it was her fault!
"Ma'am, it's going to be okay!" One of the male officers from inside called to her. Her brain was abuzz, whether it be from the shock or from her overwhelming chakra, she had no idea.
"S-Stay away." She croaked out, wobbling as she staggered towards the street. She needed to calm down. She had to. There was absolutely no other choice. H...He was dead, but she had to be calm. She had to be calm. She had to be calm. She just had to be calm, and that was it. It was just a simple task. That was all. That was it.
Some of her chakra leaked out, sending a stronger pulse than before out. It sent the officers flying again, and the tree in her yard groaned threateningly. The girl slapped a hand over her mouth, feeling dizzy and sick as she began down the street. She needed to get... to get where? Where was she supposed to go?
It didn't matter. As long as she calmed down. As long as she didn't blow up.
She ignored the people calling for her as she began tottering down the street, swaying from side to side in a dangerous manner. She felt she would pass out, yet her mind also felt like it was going to fast that unconsciousness would be impossible. She shoved the note into her hoodie pocket in a chaotic fashion. Her heart thrummed in her ears, and her breathing was so fast she was surprised she hadn't keeled over yet.
Another bout of chakra rushed out from within her, sending the Uchiha police farther back. Ethelia felt herself begin to speed up, her body shaking and pale. Sweat poured down her face, causing her messy hair to stick to her forehead. She tripped, but caught herself. She couldn't hear anything but herself breathing, and the sound of her socked feet padding on the ground. When had she begun to run?
She didn't know, but she ran anyway.
It felt like someone was screaming at her, but there was no one there. The sound of her feet on the ground faded, and she realized she was flying. Her body threatened to rise, but she forced it back down, trying not to get above three feet off the ground. She could barely focus on anything, let alone that, but she somehow managed not to shoot herself into the sun. Somehow.
She just had to be calm. That was all.
She blinked when sweat stung at her eyes, mingling with her tears. She wasn't sure if her body was tired. If it was, it wasn't processing. Nothing was. Was this what being in shock was like? She didn't know. She didn't know anything anymore. She'd done it all wrong. She'd done everything wrong, and now this had happened, and it was all her fault. She should have told him before Ryuki had the chance. She should have known this would happen. She never should have let Obito take her away.
Why hadn't she communicated better? She should have said something. There had to have been something she could say to make him stop. T-To... To make him stay with her. Why did he leave? Did he love her? Was he disappointed? Scared? All of the above? She didn't know. She didn't know, and if this note didn't tell her, she never would. He couldn't tell her anymore! He was gone! Her dad was gone!
She heard herself choke out a sob, but it sounded foreign and far away, as though it hadn't come from her at all. She felt like she wasn't in control of her body at all. Like she was sitting in the passengers seat, and someone else entirely had taken the wheel. A stranger, who didn't know what to do. A stranger, like her, but not. A copy of herself, but different.
Obito felt her before she made it to the door. He had been inspecting his bedroom to ensure nothing embarrassing was there when he felt it. He hadn't been sensing for it, and certainly wasn't the best at picking up on chakra anyway. But it had been too prominent and out of place for him to ignore. Too... too there.
It was like a raging fire that was stretching out in every direction. Like an explosion going off in slow motion. It would expand, and then shrink, and then blow up all over again. It swirled like dough in a mixer. It felt like so many things Obito couldn't place, like several things shoved into a blender, and it left him reeling. He felt stunned. For a moment, he didn't move.
The feeling faded quickly. Though he wasn't good at many things, he'd always been one to bounce back quicker than the rest. And that's what he did. He darted out of the bathroom, nearly slamming into the wall as he darted down the hall and tried to take too sharp of a turn.
He dove for the door, ripping it open as soon as he got there. He opened it just as Ethelia arrived, and he froze, his eyes going wide as she gazed up at him.
Her eyes were watery, and her entire body quivered shakily. Her face was flushed, yet somehow pale at the same time, and she was breathing fast. Tears and sweat streamed down her face, and her hair stuck to her face messily. Her arms were wrapped around herself like some sort of security blanket.
"E-Ethelia?" He gasped out, like a fish out water. "What-"
"My dad..." She interrupted, a particularly violent shiver racing up her spine. "My dad... he killed himself."

I'm sorry y'all had to read that, but it's an important part of the story that was meant to be a part of it from the very start. I don't usually plan things, but when I do, they're usually pretty crucial.
Summary:
Ethelia's dad, unfortunately, could not bear the thought of his daughter being a ninja, and he regrettably did end his life. Ethelia returned home to retrieve her things and saw, and began to have a panic attack. She let out several pulses of chakra that sent Uchiha Police flying and unable to touch her, and she couldn't think straight, but managed to get a hold of herself enough to realize that she absolutely could not lose her shit unless she wanted to destroy herself and the entire village. She raced back to Obito, and the chapter ended with him opening the door to find her in the midst of a breakdown.
