Chapter 41

Third person pov

It felt like an eternity before Ethelia was finally able to roll off of Obito. She landed with a plop next to him, staring up at the sky as well. Minato peered down at the pair, as did Kakashi and Rin. Ethelia's dad was far too busy gaping to do the same. Her daughter had done... that. That! Her, the laziest teenager he knew, had done that

"We almost died." Obito coughed a little, blinking rapidly. He felt so dizzy. The fall they'd taken had been pretty hard, and Ethelia had still been supercharged with chakra when he'd snagged her out of the air. He was sure it had shocked both of them. The Uchiha, at least, had felt a jolt go through him. One that had stunned him pretty hard.

"Damn, so close." Ethelia cursed. Minato rolled his eyes in a joking manner at the disappointment in her tone. The girl sighed, pushing herself up slightly to look at all the destruction. She paled. She could see Konoha's wall from here. She could have blasted right through it if she'd put just a little more chakra in her step.

"I swear I put as little as possible." She held her hands up in surrender.

"Whoa!" Obito shrieked. "Ethelia, what the hell?!"

"Hey, don't ask me! I didn't choose to be born like this, you dingus. Now, you owe me food," She narrowed her eyes at him. The Uchiha huffed at her, but seemed pleased for some odd reason. Maybe because they were sitting next to each other and she wasn't scoffing in disgust. Yet. She still seemed to be recovering from the blast. She had, after all, been up close and personal with it when it'd happened.

"Let's give it another go." Minato offered Ethelia a hand. The girl stared up at him with the driest expression on her face. She'd just blown up a giant wedge of the forest, and he wanted her to try again? What if someone had been walking back there? Taking a leisurely jog? They would have gotten incinerated! She was dangerous, and Minato wasn't considering that there were other people in this village other than them. One wrong move, and it could be catastrophic.

"No." She stood up herself, staring firmly up at him.

"This isn't the time to be lazy, Ethelia," Kakashi hissed at her.

"We really need you to learn to control your chakra!" Rin urged.

"I'm not being lazy this time." Ethelia snapped. "What if someone had been walking back there? What if I make a wrong move and someone gets hurt? There are people other than ourselves out here, too! We don't own this village! I almost blew a hole in one of this village's greatest defenses and shields!" She threw her hand in the direction of the giant path she'd made. "Someone could get completely obliterated just because we're jumping the gun on my chakra control!"

Minato's face had gone pale as he thought more about it, and Kakashi didn't speak. "She's right," Obito realized, "and we need to listen to her, too. We can't just do this and hope nobody dies!"

"Yeah, that." Ethelia agreed with a nod, folding her arms over her chest. Her father gazed at her, but she didn't look his way. She kept her eyes firmly on Minato's face as the man thought about it. Ethelia was right. They could definitely kill someone. Other people did train in these woods, and other people did walk here.

"...You're both right." Minato agreed finally. He felt embarrassed about the whole thing. He'd known it would blow up to. How could he not have thought about the possibly casualties, or damages to the village's wall? The large structure surrounding them wasn't too far away, and Ethelia could most definitely blow a hole in it if she wasn't careful.

"You guys think of other shit I could do to learn how to control... that." She gestured toward the instruction.

"Yeah. Now, we're going on lunch break." Obito huffed, putting a hand on Ethelia's shoulder like they were a couple or something. Ethelia scooted away from him slightly to get his hand to slide off, her arms still folded over her chest.

"Fuck yeah we are." Ethelia said.

"It's ten in the morning." Kakashi pointed out.

"Brunch, then! Jesus Christ." Ethelia scoffed, whirling around and beginning to trudge away, her hands in her hoodie pockets and her shoulders tense and hunched. Obito scrambled to follow. Ethelia's dad watched them go, his face pale and his mouth dry.

His daughter really... really did have to become a ninja, didn't she?
