Chapter 33
Third person pov
It was three in the morning, and Ethelia still hadn't gone home. They hadn't fallen asleep either. Instead, they were blasting music. Obito was using the remote as a microphone, and Ethelia, a hairbrush Obito had assaulted her with in the middle of the second Lord of the Rings movie. Now they were standing on the couch holding some sort of concert.
"DE-SPA-CITO!" Obito and Ethelia screamed. "Quiero respirar tu cuello despacito! Deja que te diga cosas al oído! Para que te acuerdes si no estás conmigo!"
There was a bang on the wall as Obito's neighbor once again told them to shut up. Both of them paused, turning to stare at the wall. The man next door was known for being grumpy, Obito noted. He turned towards Ethelia to see what she would do. Her eyes met his, and she slowly raised the comb. He grinned.
"DE-SPA-CITO!" They continued, eliciting a scream from next door. Obito listened as Ethelia resided the song perfectly. He didn't know how she remembered all of the Spanish. It was shocking that she had it memorized. He supposed there was more to her than he'd fist assumed, and once you got her used to you, she had a pretty big personality hiding under her grumpy demeanor.
"Hey, do you want me to walk you home? We're both supposed to be up in like, four hours." Obito realized. Ethelia paused as well, pursing her lips in thought. She looked down at the couch, and then at the door. Obito stared at her. Her hair was down and out of its bun, and he'd managed to hold her down while he brushed it, laughing the whole way at her complaining. She was pretty. Her hair was just a little wavy, and was somewhat frizzy from being brushed, but it still framed her face flawlessly. He grinned. "You could also crash on my couch?"
"I'll take it." She yawned, plopping down. "I'm going to fucking hate myself in the morning."
"Me too." Obito also sat down, staring at her. "Did you at least have some fun?"
Ethelia thought about it. She guessed she had let loose a little bit. She'd let herself relax around Obito. Lowering her guard hadn't been as bad as she thought it'd be. "Yeah, I guess I did. Thanks for letting me hide out here. I'm surprised they didn't find me here." Ethelia shrugged.
"Me too. I guess your chakra is too big to really pinpoint." Obito grinned.
"Ugh, my chakra." Her nose scrunched up in disgust. "What a pain."
"You're getting the hang of it, though! Pretty soon you'll be soaring through the sky without a care in the world." Obito said excitedly. Ethelia stared at him in a way that told him she in no way believed anything he'd just said. The Uchiha couldn't blame her.
"I'd rather live out my days in the comfort of a bed, asleep. Forever." Ethelia sighed wistfully. Obito couldn't help but snicker.
"That's no fun. Don't you have stuff you want to do?" Obito propped his head up on his hand, gazing at her. Her expression was thoughtful. She was the only one who really took any of his questions seriously. She didn't like talking, but she was considerate enough to put thought into her responses when she talked to him. It meant a lot that she didn't just brush him off with a short reply like many others did.
"I mean, there's this one sushi roll I haven't tried at the-"
"No, not like that." Obito cut her off, grinning. His cheeks pinkened slightly. "Like... falling in love and getting married! Don't you want kids or something? Maybe you want to go to the beach or get a pet dog!"
"Get married?" Ethelia snorted. Had Obito not met her? "Kids suck ass, and plus, who's going to fall in love with someone like me?"
Obito opened his mouth to say something, but he closed it quickly, his cheeks turning pink. He instead shrugged weakly. "I don't know. Just trying to think of stuff. I know that I want to fall in love with someone and marry them..." Obito trailed off awkwardly.
"Don't you like Rin?" Ethelia raised an eyebrow at him, yawning.
"Not anymore. I've moved on. Besides, that was just a crush. I think I've met someone way more worthwhile." Obito couldn't help but smile, his eyes meeting hers. She clearly had absolutely no idea he was talking about her. That was fine with him. If she realized, he'd be a little freaked out to be honest.
"Well, I hope that works out for you." Ethelia sighed, leaning back and into the couch. "I mean, I guess I wanted to make a friend before I died. I guess we're friends." She closed her eyes. Obito grinned widely, his eyes alight.
"Yeah." He murmured. "I guess we really are."
