Chapter 31

Third person pov

"That idiotic bitch." Ethelia said, shoving some more nachos into her mouth. Obito nodded in agreement from his place beside her. This chick had literally seen her friend's dead bodies. She knew something supernatural was picking them off one by one. And yet, even so, she still trekked down the darkened hall to try and investigate what she'd heard. She'd even called out the name of one of her friends as though it could possibly be her. Her dumbassery was going to end in nothing but bloodshed.

"Horror movies must be set in a dimension where horror movies don't exist. Otherwise stuff like this wouldn't happen." Obito complained. This time it was Ethelia's turn to nod. Both she and Obito were holed up in his apartment, nachos and sodas filling their noontime hunger. Ethelia felt content despite being with another person, and Obito did too.

"Deadass." She swallowed another mouthful of cheesy goodness. "We should have got guac."

"We were fools back then." Obito sighed a sad sigh that Ethelia could honestly relate to on a spiritual level. They fell silent, the only sound other than the suspenseful music emitting from the TV being the crunching of tortilla chips. Obito was only a few inches from Ethelia. She was just on the cushion next to his. He could reach over and put his arm right around h-

"sCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-" The TV shrieked as the face of a creature Obito couldn't even begin to recognize flashed across the screen. He let out a shrill scream, the bowl of chips in his lap going flying. Reflexively, he grabbed Ethelia, who looked more freaked out about him touching her than the jump scare.

"Jesus Christ, Obito! Aren't you supposed to be a ninja?!" Ethelia leaned away from him as the dumbass girl that had dared venture down a dark hall without even trying to light switch. Obito stared at her with wide eyes, their faces mere inches apart. Ethelia had leaned back as far as she could, but Obito had her pinned down at this point.

"Ninjas don't fight alien monsters that generate from curses, okay?!" Obito leaned back. "Why weren't you scared?!"

"I don't care about my life anymore. I can look in the face of death and smile." Ethelia said blandly, sitting up slightly as Obito got off of her. Obito stared at her bug-eyed, which was understandable. He was sure even Kakashi would at least flinch. Rin probably would have screamed loud enough to break the sound barrier itself! "And you spilled our chips."

"How can you not care about your life?!" Obito wailed. This girl was in tragic need of some help. A friend. He was doing his absolute best to be there for her, but he wasn't sure how well that was panning out. So far he'd gotten a crush and managed to spills some chips, and that was about it.

"How do you expect me to enjoy life if I've got nobody special to experience it with?" Ethelia shrugged. "I love my dad, but he's been there since day one. He ain't special-"

"I'll be your special person!" Obito immediately volunteered. "I'll enjoy life with you!"

"What? No. It doesn't work like that. Probably. I don't know, this has never happened before." Ethelia said.  "And I hope that you realize that all of this screams 'recipe for disaster.' Stuff like this probably takes like... finesse and focus, neither of which you have."

"Hey!" Obito pouted, but he knew it was true. "We can still try! I like you, and you like me, so it'll probably be fine!" Obito clapped his hands together. Ethelia gave him the most confused look she could possibly muster up.

"Since when did I like you? What? Did I miss something?" Ethelia asked, looking around in a sarcastic manner as though the answer were floating around somewhere. Obito deadpanned slightly, knowing he probably should have seen that coming from a mile away. He knew, deep down, that Ethelia liked him! At least more than she was letting on... maybe.

"Bitch is alive." Ethelia suddenly gasped, her eyes widening. Obito's gaze turned to the TV, and just like that, they were sucked into the movie once more. Only this time, there weren't whole inches between them. Obito's leg was touching Ethelia's, and although the girl had noticed, she found that she really didn't mind.
