Chapter 29
For Sukio_Tatsumi
Third person pov
"Our mission is to... keep some brat company?" Ethelia checked. She had finished her food in record time, and Obito had been able to hold a decent conversation with her. He was going to have to start carrying food around! Her personality seemed to undergo somewhat of a transformation anytime she had food given to her. He would have to pay attention to see how long the effects lasted.
"Yes, Ethelia. And it isn't a brat. The client is your age." Minato rolled his eyes slightly in amusement. Obito's eyebrows raised. Didn't Minato realize that they were all brats? Kakashi was an asshole, Ethelia complained about the fact that she had to walk, he was always late and complained, and Rin was completely boy crazy. They weren't exactly the "golden children" of Konoha.
"Who's the client?" Kakashi asked stoically. No matter the mission rank, he took every task given with equal seriousness. Ethelia couldn't help but think of how much worse that made everything, but she refrained from mentioning it because she knew it wasn't going to change anytime soon. Kakashi was a tight ass, and getting him to not be one was going to be nearly impossible.
"Yeah! Are they a civilian?" Rin chirped curiously.
"Their name is Ryuki Taki, and-"
"Wait, what?!" Ethelia all but screamed, mortified. She turned to look up at Obito, who looked just as horrified as she did. Of course it was Ryuki, and of course he'd go so far as to hire the team she was on. This wasn't good. This was extremely creepy, in fact. Ethelia didn't even know any kick ass ninja moves to hit him with yet! Fuck, fuck, fuck! Of course this would happen. Why wouldn't it?
"Is something wrong?" Minato asked slowly, his eyebrows raising curiously. Ethelia gave him a bland look.
"No, why ever would you think that?" She asked, her voice heavy with sarcasm that made the blonde deadpan. "Yes, there's something wrong. I'm going home. In fact, I'm even going to bring Obito with me, and I don't even like it that much. You guys can go hang out with Ryuki. Give the asshole my greetings." She hissed, grabbing Obito's arm at pulling him away.
"W-Wait, Ethelia!" Rin called as Obito stumbled, nearly planting right on his face. Ethelia groaned loudly at him. She wanted to fall into a comatose state and, you know, never wake up again. Or maybe she'd wake up once a year during the summer so she could go eat a soft pretzel. That was some good shit that she 11/10 would risk coming out of hibernation for.
"Do you two know the client?" Minato asked the obvious.
"No, what gave you that impression? It's not like I called him an asshole or anything. Oh, and I'm definitely not leaving because of him." Ethelia was panicking. She didn't want to panic, but it was just happening, and she couldn't do anything about it. She didn't like feeling or being this helpless, so she was making the choice to go eat and wallow alone while reading a good book.
"Show a little respect." Kakashi scoffed. He was ignored.
"Ryuki is only the worst guy in the world, Minato-sensei! We have to give the mission to someone else!" Obito insisted loudly, planting his feet to stop Ethelia from tugging him any further from the team. Although, she hadn't managed to drag him all that far. The girl cursed her noodle arms and the urge to drag Obito along to use as a meat shield.
"What did he do?" Rin asked curiously, and Ethelia shot the Uchiha a look that immediately made the boy seal his lips. He didn't like Ryuki, but he was afraid of Ethelia. The girl wasn't really a ninja yet, but he knew she was completely capable of killing him faster than he could react. She could get pretty scary when she wanted to.
"Tch, this is stupid, Minato-sensei. Let's just proceed with the mission. The client requested us specifically, and if they don't want to come, then that's fine." The Hatake scoffed.
"Yes, thank you! We'll be going now." Ethelia was contemplating leaving Obito, but the kid could breathe fire, and she couldn't. What if she ran into trouble? Sure, it was broad daylight and all, but that meant absolutely nothing. Even in the sun, there were plenty of dark corners for dangers to lurk in.
"Now, now, wait a minute you two. Unless you can give me a good reason why we shouldn't take this mission, you're coming with us." Minato's tone was authoritative, and Ethelia groaned.
Great.
