Chapter Forty: Heat, Ache, Excitement, And Desire
CALISTA POV
Myles said to hang on, and now it had been almost fifteen minutes and nothing happened. My smile didn't leave my face, for all the time he drove and smiled at himself too, I watched him. I enjoy watching him doing everything and even more when he's doing nothing.
While he steers the wheel with one hand, his free hand is in my hands, on my thighs, our thumbs wagging.
The car was quiet, it smelled specifically like him, probably because he had been in there a couple of times today.
When the car stopped, I didn't care to take my eyes off him until he finally announced, "We are here."
My reluctant eyes first saw a massive land with nothing but unwanted plants through the window at his side.
Once again, he took me to a vacant space.
Myles leans forward, his lips half an inch away from mine. I paused, including my breathing, and centralized to the weird feeling in my stomach from his closeness, scent, and most certainly, the way he was intently observing my lips.
He's deliberately stalling, dragging the time with a smile on his face at my heavy breathing.
I didn't know I was tensed and clenching his hand until he groaned and briefly averted his eyes down to our linked fingers. My panicked eyes followed his gaze. I started to whisper an apology when he looked up, and trimmed locks of hair fell all over his forehead. My condition only worsens at my next intake of breath. His smile was lopsided, and small dimples sunk above his lips. It was unfair, for I was engrossed in him to the embarrassing extent that my mind kept replaying the groaning sound he made earlier.
He slowly bites his bottom lip until it is moistened, as his steady gaze searches through mine.
"Are you going to kiss me?" I breathed, my voice sounding small but desperate. It was embarrassing, but I didn't care.
Slowly, his lips pulled back into a smile.
"Look." His response was unrelated and obscured our present situation and the question I had asked. It baffles me. My brows furrow at him but he is still smiling, he jerks his chin at the windshield.
Warily studying him, I dragged my eyes to where he was leading, and holy shit. My earlier words are immediately scratched out of my head. This isn't just empty land.
"Myles what?" I exclaimed and he cracked into my best sound, that is his chuckle in my ear.
Blinking, my head tilts back to him. He's dangerously close, my lips suddenly meet his. Silence cozied the space around us. He smiled again and snatched my lips between his. He slips out his hand from mine and wraps it around my waist, pulling me a little closer to him. I kissed him back deeply, my body shuddering from a wave of relief at the sweet taste of his mouth.
Heat, ache, excitement, and desire, I experience those emotions all at once. My breathing quickens, I know my body wants more of him. I reach for his face just as he pulls back.
No, not very soon.
"That's unfair. It shouldn't be enough." I instantly purred.
He grinned mischievously.
"Come." He said, laughing at my reaction as he stepped out of the vehicle.
Honestly, I can't be angry at him even if I wanted to be. I mean he's about to take me on a ride in a helicopter. Anytime he does something and I thought it was the cutest gesture ever, he proves me wrong with even better surprises.
He jogs over to where I am nervously standing and takes my hand.
"I will show you Texas from above, and maybe sometime you could show me it vast on the road." He suggested while I smiled, my heart pounding in my chest at everything about him.
We started walking side by side while I wondered, "You are flying that?"
"Nolan is," Myles informs me, just as a young man steps out of the helicopter.
"And there he is." Myles excitedly laughs and lets go of my hand to hug the exuberant man coming over in his direction.
"Nolan Hudson, Calista, my girlfriend."
Girlfriend.
Myles Cameron literally introduced me as his girlfriend. Oh my God.
Physically, I might be blushing, but mentally I am in the chaos of elation. Jumping up and down as I should. I don't remember the last time I felt like this, ever since I returned home from California.
"Nice to meet you, Calista." Nolan politely said to me.
Nolan's light blonde hair is trimmed lower by the sides than it is in the middle. He isn't as tall as the basketball players I've met. Perhaps in my high heels, we could be of the same height, but he was muscular and good-looking. You could mistake him for a marine.
"Thank you. It's my pleasure." I smiled at the excited boys before me, bracing each other.
"You know this man and I went to school together." Nolan taps Myles's chest. I was intrigued by Nolan's story. I partially gaped at them. Nolan was ready to pour out every memory he had of them together, while Myles only smiled nervously, with one hand in his pocket and the other across Nolan's shoulder. "We fought a lot and made up countless times, like in Mr. and Mrs. Smith movie, but without the sex."
I tried to stifle the laugh, but I ended up blushing.
"In that case, I am Brad Pitt." Myles points out, at the same time as Nolan claims, "I am Brad Pitt."
Seeing them teasing each other was fun.
Nolan scrunches his face while Myles glares at him.
"Come on, Angelina Jolie is a beautiful woman and her stunts are so good. You should be proud to accept Mrs. Smith's character."
Myles's face twisted in a peculiar way before he shoved Nolan while he was laughing.
"Oh, shut up." He ended that particular debate and grabbed my hand in his.
I laugh most of the time at Nolan's story while Myles fastens my seatbelt and headphones.
From Nolan's opinions and remarks, I learn he isn't in the NBA and certainly not a Marine. He is in his third year of a four-year professional pilot program in one of Texas's best aviation academies. He had started immediately after their high school graduation as Myles went pro. Myles had said they hadn't seen each other for almost two years until today.
"He just texted me less than an hour ago. Hey bro, I am in Texas, I need a chopper to impress a girl." Nolan professed and I giggled, looking over at Myles.
"Oh okay, okay. That is completely different from what I sent to you." Next to me, Myles argued through headphones, while Nolan was flying the helicopter. "I can show you the text," he told me, and I smiled at him.
The whole time, which is about thirty minutes, I listen and laugh at their banter. Most of the time, Myles would squeeze my thigh or kiss my hand. At that point, life felt too good to be accurate. I've never felt comfortable.
It's not until we landed under a giant H sign on some building that resembled an arena, that I actually remember my dad's car was left behind in the middle of nowhere in the dark.
"Dad's car, Myles." I leaned into his side and whispered. So it is confusing to hear Nolan answer me when, in the first place, he shouldn't have even heard.
"You don't have to worry, it's a safe place. I know the area well." He said from the front, as we were being led into the building through a single door by a suited uniformed man who donned dark eyeglasses at night.
Myles's eyes fall over to me and he lets go of my hand for the first time in thirty minutes. For a nanosecond, I worried he wouldn't want to be seen with me. But I took back my doubts when his hand came around my shoulders and warmed me in his arms.
"Hear that? Nothing to worry about." His smile is powerfully contagious, I find myself reciprocating.
