CHAPTER 2

Commander was confused.

"Who the hell is Prophet?"

As Scout got closer to reread the note on the inside of its hat, he saw that the note had been violently scribbled out and replaced with a different note that just said:

'Vestige's hat. Please don't take this.'

"So its name is Vestige. But who's Trickshot?"

Scout, Medic, and Commander studied Vestige for other points of interest, but the only thing that they could find was a necklace, that they carefully removed. The necklace had some sort of symbol of one large, right-facing hard bracket, and one smaller, left-facing hard bracket. Under the symbol, etched into the necklace, lied one word.

'Sand'.

Meanwhile, in the forest.
Paintballer was testing his aim on some trees. He spun around to shoot a tree, and its trunk disintegrated. Feeling proud of himself for getting better each day, he sat down for a bit.
Suddenly, a beam of light projected from the sky right next to Paintballer, shattering the tree next to him. A limping humanoid wearing orange, broken paintball gear came out of the beam, and fainted, almost falling onto Paintballer.
Paintballer got up, and slowly backed away, before noticing a necklace.
The necklace had a symbol of a square with one of its sides pushed in, making it look like more of a broken square. Under the symbol, there lied two words.

'Word/Verbum'.

Paintballer recongized 'Verbum' as latin for 'Word'. However, Paintballer didn't have time to think about what it was, as the person slowly came to their feet. They rubbed their face with their open hand, and noticed Paintballer. All of a sudden, their paintball gun was in his face, as they yelled at Paintballer.

"Ubi infernum sum? Qui in inferno sunt, sint vobiscum?!"

Paintballer didn't know what to say. They clearly spoke another language. Apparently, they didn't take nothing as an answer, and their hand moved closer to the trigger.

"Esne tibi simile aliquid consanguinei Sidearm Stubbs vel aliquid?! Ego illum prius occidi, tibi quoque faciam."

Paintballer finally returned to his senses, and tried to respond. Warily, Paintballer said,

"Uhm.. Hi..? I'm Paintballer, I don't know who you are, but you are quite menacing with that gun to my head.."

They didn't understand  Paintballer's answer, and employed the 'Shoot first, ask questions later' strategy.
Paintballer had barely any time to react as they rolled backwards and lowered their gun slightly.

"Hellion nomen est mihi. Hoc erit fun te occidere."

Suddenly, multiple neon-orange paintballs were fired at Paintballer, who had to dive away in order not to be hit. In retaliation, Paintballer fired two shots at 'Hellion', who just stood there as the pendant on their necklace began to shake.
And then it exploded. Just for a split second, Paintballer couldn't move. The paintballs he fired were stuck in mid-air. Hellion, however, simply sidestepped the shots. Time being frozen must have only lasted .75 seconds.
Paintballer, in utter shock, slightly backed away. He rubbed his eyes. All of a sudden, the broken pieces of the pendant reformed onto its necklace. Hellion chuckled.

"Nescis vim spiritus Verbi? Non debes multum scire de Spirituum Tempo."

Paintballer fired again, the same thing happened. But, instead of waiting to fire, he fired instantly again.

"scilicet."

The pendant had not reformed. The paintball hit its target, making Hellion fall to the ground.

"tantum.. pro vitreo.. tormento."

Paintballer made some observations.
'hmm.. not getting up, even after wounded. That's not the mark of an enemy. They also look nothing like any enemy i've ever seen. And what's with them speaking Latin? Not like I know what they mean..'

"Alright, don't thrash against me. I'm bringing you to Commander."

Much thrashing later, Paintballer and Hellion, who was out like a light on Paintballer's back after trying to escape for so long, arrived at the Towers's camp. A few Towers looked Paintballer's way when they saw a completely unknown person slung over Paintballer's shoulder, but most stayed back. Paintballer only approached a drawing Ranger to ask where Commander was. After getting his answer, Paintballer began to walk to Medic's broken-down building, almost walking into a silent Sledger. Paintballer, not wanting to be near Sledger, sidestepped him and walked into the building. Hellion stirred, but didn't fight back. Hellion seemed delirious, and kept saying random things. Paintballer realized he should translate it. He quickly grabbed out his phone, and opened a voice translator app. He selected Latin-English. He now knew what Hellion was saying, but it still made absolutely no sense. Hellion was saying things like;
"prophet.. did that sword dissapear.?"
"visitor... stop taking my mask.."
"subject.. let go of me.. we have to kill the slime monster.."
"witness.. what did you see again?"
"artisan.... didn't you give me a scarf..? where did it go.."
"blox.. how are you so good at this..?"
Paintballer guessed that Commander and Medic would be just as clueless as him, but he decided to try anyway. The only big movement Hellion made before he entered Medic's room was a small whimper and pulling their pendant closer to their body after Hellion said something the voice program didn't catch.
After knocking on Medic's door, a muffled "Wait just a second." echoed from inside.
Medic opened the door, somehow not noticing Hellion, whom Paintballer had set down to talk to Medic. It was fair that she didn't see them, though. They had sat down and had curled up in a ball afterwards.

"What do you want, Paintballer? I'm a bit busy right now."

"I found someone in the forest."

Medic sighed.

"Alright, bring 'em in here."

Paintballer walked over and uncurled Hellion, and picked them up. Despite having full painball gear on, Hellion was unusally light. Medic caught Hellion's visor, and said, confused,

"Another one?"

Paintballer carried Hellion into Medic's room, where he saw a humanoid similar to Hellion. Purple, wearing a hat, unconcious.

"Who's this?"

Scout, who was in the room, replied.

"Apparently, he's named 'Vestige'."

At the of Vestige's name, Hellion broke free of Paintballer's grip, and went to sit next to Vestige, who had been moved to the floor for further investigation.

"putabam te esse mortuum .."

"What?"

"Yeah, they speak latin."

"excitare... amice."

And with that, Hellion fell unconcious next to Vestige.
