The Giants
Song: Rescue Me by Kerrie Roberts
I wake up hours later, not sure what happened...or how I got here. I am in a makeshift cage made out of animal bones; the smell alone almost makes me gag it reeks so bad. I never understood why some would even want to eat animals just the thought of it makes me sick to my stomach. I'm strung up in the air inside of a cave a few feet from the ground. I lean over and don't see anyone.
I wonder where the giants are and what their plans are for me. Everything seems dim in the cave. I blink several times trying to see what is close by, wondering why my vision seems so weak. Usually I can see everything in the night as if it was daytime. I turn and look another direction and then all around me, panicking that maybe this is the end. I am left to die here in this cave. Malachite has won; I overslept and the moons have passed and I'm stuck her for eternity.
I cry out hoping that something will awake, hoping to get some ones attention. "Hello...hello...get me out of here...hello..." My voice echoes along the cave walls.
I hear something walking in the distance, footsteps scraping the cave floor making a hissing sound with each step. When he comes in to view he has this wide smile on his face, so wide that I see all the rotting teeth inside. When he breathes out all I smell is the decaying foul odor. He leans closer to the cage and gives me this look that makes my skin crawl.
He reaches up with one hand and takes down the cage and carries me out of the cave. I try so hard to keep my balance as he swings it along like it's a nothing. The whole time I look around me trying to figure out where I am...and where is Silver. If only I can find Silver then maybe he can help finding away to get me out of here.
The sun is out today however hidden by layers of clouds even then the brightness still hurts my eyes the moment we step out into the open. I watch as all the other giants come over closer to me. I have a feeling this is not going to be good, as he hangs the cage from the tree branch. I am out in the open now for all of them to view me. I can say I have always hated being the center of attention and now more than ever.
I don't want to know what is on their minds; I just want to get out of here. "Please let me out of here," I beg. I keep fighting to keep my eyes open as much as possible scared that if I close them that something bad will happen in that split second.
The older, bigger giant leans closer to the cage and snarls at me. "Why would we do that? We have never had the honor of owning a fairy." His breath about knocks me over; I quickly cover up my mouth and nose...how gross.
I glare at him. Did he say...owning a fairy...no...no one will ever own me. I fight with things that come across my mind trying to figure out how to get myself out of this mess. "But you said that I was no longer a fairy, remember." Maybe I can get them to release me after all with no wings, how can I even be a fairy.
"True...but maybe you can help us out with your magic," he throws his head back and laughs again while the others join in. Magic...he can't be serious. Without my wings I am nothing all the magic I have ever had is gone.
"I don't have any magic," I protest.
I hear a roar of laughter all around me. One of the giants hits the cage and it twirls around so fast that I get dizzy and have to sit and hang on for dear life. I cry out for them to please stop. "Stop this instance...please stop it now."
When it does finally stop, I see Silver in another cage on the ground passed out.For some reason I am more worried about him. I'm not sure if he is alive or not, maybe he is just passed out. Either way he is completely out of it. "What did you do to him? Silver...Silver wake up," I yell to him.
"He will be fine," the giant bellows loudly. "He will be food for tonight." He licks his lips and the rest cheer in excitement.
He can't be serious, can he? "Wait...what...you can't eat him," I raise my voice to him. I look over at Silver and start to panic. "Silver...Silver...wake up!" I shout at him but he doesn't even shift.
The cage goes around and around again as they take turns hitting it. One minute I go in one direction only the next to get thrown in the opposite direction. I crouch down and clench my teeth together, holding back the feeling in the pit of my stomach. I close my eyes because all I see is blurriness as everything flies by me. Suddenly it stops again and it takes me a few minutes to gain my balance back. I try to stand and have to hold on to the nasty bones to get myself back into to standing.
There is a loud growl coming from Silver's direction. Each of the giants turn to look to see where the sound is coming from. I have heard that sound before but the last time I was unaware of what was really going on. I turn to look in the same direction they are all looking and I see him transforming in the cage.
However the cage is small and during the transformation it all breaks apart in seconds, shattering to the ground. It all happens so fast like the speed of light. One minute he is Silver, a man that I am falling in love with, the next he is an oversized grey and black wolf. He is covered in hair from head to tail, a glorious specimen. He pounds his sharp curved claws into the ground, digging up the earth in front of him. His long snout cringes up and his mouth grinds with razor sharp teeth. I notice his eyes changing in the split second. Now they are dark red, ready to kill. I watch as the giants are unsure of what to do with him.
When he lurches out at one of them, the giant in returns slams his hand down hitting the ground beside him only to miss him. The earth crumbling up and flying into the air in small particles. The giant gets angry and uses his other hand only to miss him yet again. Silver lurches out at him and pounces him hard knocking him over so hard his body crashes to the ground. The ground vibrates and causes the trees to sway and rocks the cage. I squat down and hold on not knowing if I am going to knocked to the ground or not.
I watch terrified as all the giants try to pound him with their over sized fist but each one gets knocked down. Except the main giant he stands tall, stiffing his back waiting on Silver to come at him. He on the other hand slams hard into Silver knocking him to the ground. He swiftly gets back up on all fours and charges at him with such force that when he falls over, Silver goes right along with him and they tumble to the ground. He fights his way with him until he is on top and he stands on his chest holding him down. He is only inches away from his face growling with a dark deep sound, saliva drips onto the giant's neck.
He was just about to bite into him when I call out, "Silver...don't!"
He stops and momentarily looks my way, those dark red eyes glare at me and it makes me wonder if he is still thinking like Silver or is the wolf he that he is now. Does it make him even want to harm me? He slowly turns back away from me and looks back down at the giant, nudging him with his nose. Sharp teeth fight to not take a bite out of him.
This time I yell again but more firmly. "Silver...please..." I don't really know why I don't want him to kill him. He won the fight...he doesn't have to take the giants life. He growls and backs away from the giant but only walks away after he back hands him in the side.
When he makes his way over to the cage he claws at it to break it open. I'm not sure if I want to climb out but there is something about him, something telling me that there is no way that he would ever harm me.
I climb out and rest my hand on his cheek. "Thanks for saving me...now let's get out of here." I pat him on his side and climb up on his back and hold on for dear life as he runs with great speed into the darkness of the woods.
