I Can't Believe What I am Seeing
Song: Never be alone by Shawn Mendes
Silver:
I feel my way edging more into the mountain side and I can't believe she was telling the truth. There was an opening behind the waterfall. I wonder if anyone else ever knew that it was right here all along. It's so dark in the cave I snap on the light. Azurite is right beside me so I turn her light on as well without thinking and she closes her eyes so tight. Crap, I hope I didn't blind her too bad. I reach over and turn it back off and she tries to open her eyes but then closes them again. My light is too bright so I turn it down a little.
The moment it is dim enough she looks at me and her eyes are this dazzling luminous shade of blue and I can't take my eyes off of her. My plan is to bring her here and leave however how can I just leave her now...like this.
I shake away the thought, I just need to get out of here...just go. She will be all right. "Well...guess you can get out of the wet suit now." I open the bag and hand her the clothes she had on earlier. "Here...you can put these back on."
"Uhm....I don't need those here." She smiles. She starts to take off the wet suit and I turn my head. I was always taught it's not nice to watch a girl change clothes or to see her naked for that matter. However my mind keeps playing with me and daring me to look her way. I steal a glance and she takes my breath away. I quickly look back before she sees me staring. I swear her skin is sparkling. How is that possible? Maybe it has something to do with her eyes and the freaking darkness of this place; the two combined is messing with my vision.
"Here is the wetsuit." She hands it back to me. I turn back around thinking she would have the other clothes on but she is standing there completely naked. I nearly choke and hide my eyes with my hands."What you never seen a being without clothes?" she giggles.
"Um...yes...I mean no...put something on already would you."
She walks over and takes my hands away from my eyes and she frowns, "What are you afraid...to see me...the real me."
"No...it's just...just...not right."
"I don't understand."
"Look for my sake please just put the shirt on." I pick it up off the ground and hand it to her. I bite my lip in the process and we won't even talk about what is happening to the thing between my legs. I have never seen any girl this way and seeing her like this...shit I can't even think right. I so need to be getting the hell out of here.
"Fine it's on alright. So do you want to help me get out of the cave? It gets really tricky back in this part."
I had never planned on going any farther but something is urging me to help her. "I guess I can but then I have to get back alright." I get out my phone and text Kaine just to let him know that I may not get phone reception here and that I will be back later. If he doesn't hear back from me in a day or so he will come looking for me. "Alright."
I walk beside her as we make our way through the darkness and when I mean dark...I mean dark. I feel her hand reach out for mine and for some unknown reason I let her hand hold mine.We walk what seems forever and then I see light coming from a distance. I'm not really focusing on my footing and in my hurry, I trip over something and land in a pool of water. To my surprise there are bright green eyes looking directly back at me. I scoot back as fast as possible and Azurite leans over and pick up the long twelve foot snake. She rubs its head and whispers something to it before letting it go. Thankfully it slithers away in the other direction. She doesn't bother saying a word as she reaches down for me to grab her hand to pull me back up.
When we make it to the opening there are a million stars in the sky. I don't believe I have ever seen this many. The moon itself shines down lighting up the forest; beyond us is a massive land of trees. She points to the far Northeastern part. "I live way over there. It's going to be a killer walk. I'm use to flying, not walking."
I look over at her and out of nowhere she has something on her back. At first I assume something must have attached to her in the cave. I gulp and point to her back, "Uh...you have something on your back."
She nearly jumps out of her skin. But when she turns around that is when I see it. Them...the moon glistens nicely just enough to show how magnificent her wings are. They are almost see through, translucent like. Wait she wasn't lying after all, she really does have wings. I watch as she flutters them up and down and the expression on her face is priceless.
"My wings! Oh my goodness, I have my wings." She flies up and then comes back down. Her body shines this nice glow in the moon light and it is a light bluish color, not the pale white as it was back at home. Her hair slowly turns more blue as well, not the darker shade it was. This place, this world that we walked into is somehow turning things...like magic. I can't seem to take my eyes off of her. "I can fly home. You can go back if you want. I appreciate you helping me get this far."
"But...I...I..." I fumble over my words. A part of me wants to turn and go right back home, of course that massive snake is somewhere in that cave. The other part of me wants to make sure she actually gets to where she is going. You never know what's lurking in the forest. "You're not home yet. Maybe I should help you the rest of the way...you know just in case."
"In case...of what? I can fly the rest of the way...really it's no problem."
"I think I will help you anyway, if that is alright with you."
"Uhm...ok...but it will take longer to get there. You are too big for me to carry...no offense or anything."
"None taken." I grin back at her, flexing my arms.
"OK...then we have to climb down or I should say you need to climb down there to the bottom."
"No problem, I have my gear right here." I pat my bag on my side and then start taking out some of my gear. I start my way down only to watch her dive into the darkness and then flies back up again. When she goes down the second time it's almost like she is floating, sailing in the air.
She is already waiting on me when I get to the bottom. "You do realize by waking this may take a good day or two."
"Uhm...ok."
"Just O.K. you didn't even want to help me...now you want to make sure I actually get there. You have no idea what these woods hold. I can't save you if something happens to you...you know that right."
"I can take perfectly good care of myself, so lead the way."
The air is different here. And the moon is so bright that you don't need the use of the lights on my forehead. She leads the way. Every now and then she will flutter up and fly next to me giving her legs a rest. "Maybe we should stop for a bit; do you mind? We can camp out here for the night." I know she wants to keep going but I am like getting so tired of walking.
"Uhm...I really think we should go just a little farther or we could rest up into the trees for a while. Believe me you don't want to be caught sleeping on the ground right here."
"Why not? I haven't seen anything yet."
"That's because they are waiting on you to be still. Look I know you don't believe me however there are lots of creatures up in here."
"Well, I'm getting really tired so let's climb a tree."
"No need to climb. Scuabann crann sios agus roghnaigh muid suas. Le do thoil." She moves her hands around and suddenly the tree branch just falls to the ground and waits for us.
"What just happened? How did you do that?"
She turns and looks at me with a big grin on her face. "I simply told the tree to sweep down and pick us up. See the trees here listen to you when you talk to them unlike your world."
She climbs up and the branch is waiting for me and the second both my feet are on the branch it starts to move upward. It takes us to another branch and all we have to do is step over to it. We go all the way up and it almost feels like we are on top of the world. I watch her sit down and look up at the night sky; millions of stars glisten above us. She looks lost in her thoughts and for a second I think I see a single tear escape.
"What are you thinking about?" I sit down beside her. My arm rubs up against hers and I let her lean into me.
"It feels like it has been forever. I love coming here at night. The last time I was here was with Scolecite and..." She tries to smile but it quickly falters into frown, her bottom lip starts to quiver and she is trying so hard to hold it all in.
My arm comes around her to hold her a little closer...I try to comfort her. "Scolecite?" I say the name again with almost a question to who that is. Whoever the guy is she is for sure not over him.
"He is just this boy that I liked to come here with. It's just not right looking at these stars with someone else...I'm sorry." She stands up and flies down a few branches and nestles in against the trunk of the tree.
I debate go down beside her. I feel that there is so much that we just don't know about each other and my mind wants to know more about her life. However in the end I leave her alone and stare up at the night sky casted with millions of stars until I dose off to sleep.
