Everyone Here Knows...
Song: War of hearts by Ruelle
Azurite:
I wake up in a cold sweat. My heart is racing from the nightmare from where the cave is crumbling all around the two of us but for some reason I never make it out. Malachite forces me to stay and Silver to leave and I know in that moment he is gone forever. I place my hand over my rapidly beating chest and gasp for air as I look around in an unfamiliar place.
I sit and look around for Silver knowing that he should be by my side but he's not. I can hear him talking in the distance so I scoot over to the edge of the bed and hang my feet over the edge. My head throbs. I close my eyes a few times trying to blink away the blurriness not to mention the feeling of being a little dizzy. The coldness of the floor brings a slight chill up my overly warm body. I suddenly felt so warm, warmer than usual.
As I walk over closer to the doorway, I hear him explaining to someone about everything he saw in Orestes...not only that but he is talking about me. I look up and get a glimpse of myself in the reflection of the mirror. I look horrible; this can't be what I look like. My skin has turned a pale white, it no longer shimmers like it use too. I run my hand through my hair. What is this?
The blue has turned to an almost dark blue, so dark that it is almost black. I walk over to the mirror super close almost touching my reflection. I look at the girl staring back at me and even though her eyes are an amazing blue, they are nothing like they use to be. The sparkle in them are gone. What is happening to me?
I hear him talking about my wings. I remember the torture of having them being snapped off. I turn slowly around, looking at my back in the reflection of the mirror. Tears form suddenly in my eyes; I can't believe this is what I look like now. God I miss my wings, in place of them two little ridged stubs where they use to be. Not only that but it looks horrific and I'm not sure this is a good thing.
I never imagined it would look like this. I cover my mouth to hold back the sounds of my cries. The skin on my back is turning different shades of green from where I was whipped and all of a sudden I feel lightheaded.
By the time I make it to the doorway everything around me is swirling and I see the outlining of two people talking at a nearby table. I close my eyes for a second and when I open them back up one of them is running over towards me and I feel his hands cradle me as I blackout. I know it's Silver and I want to tell him that I'm fine but I don't get that chance.
Sometime within the time I was sleeping I come to and hear people around me chanting. I feel someone touch my scars as if putting some kind of thick cream on it and then more chanting. My head pounds harder, forcing me to keep my eyes closed. One minute I feel like I am freezing the next I am burning up dying to get out of the layers on top of me. Every time my body twitches and jerks, I feel someone patting me softly as if to calm me back to sleep.
Sometime within going in and out, I hear chanting and singing. I swear I saw shadows and other weird visions surrounding me like spirits beckoning me to be alright and to heal. Then darkness comes and I can't remember anything after that.
Sunlight brightens up the room, forcing me to wake up. I am lying on my front side and it takes me a few times to blink my eyes open. I try to move but my body aches all over causing me to let out a light moan. "Good morning sunshine can I get you anything?" Silver says a little worried about me as he leans down to kiss my cheek.
"What happened? Where am I?" I try to roll over and he stops me.
"Take it slow...grandfather and the elders came to heal you." He holds his hand out to help me sit up.
"Why do I still feel so out of it?"
"You have been out for a week. Your back was infected. I tried to help as much as possible in your land gathering up some herbs and it was helping some but when we landed in the water from the falls it somehow became more infected. It was killing you but the elders they, they all came to help and it looks so much better now."
"I heard them; they were chanting something."
"Yes they were here every night. They have healing prayers that they chant and the herbs they mixed to place on your back has almost completely healed now. Without them helping you would never had made it.
"I should thank them." I tell him as I try to stand up but my legs wobble so much that I have to sit back down.
"You can later...you got to give your body time."
I keep thinking of the last time I was looking at my body, the last time I saw what I really looked like. I look down my pale body and I hold my shaking hand up in front of me to see the paleness. My hair falls in front of me and I can't help but reach up and run my fingers through the dark blue. A tear slides down my cheek and then another one.
His hand reaches up, sliding my hair out of my hands and tucking it behind my ear. He slowly takes his hand and nudges up my chin so that I am looking at him. However I close my eyes in that split second afraid of looking at him. I don't want to see the sadness in his eyes, no reason to feel sorry for me. "Azurite...look at me," he whispers.
I shake my head no, keeping my eyes closed. I can feel the tears seep out and run along my cheek. He wipes them away and with one hand he places it behind my neck and pulls me into him. His lips touch mine softly and when he pulls away he says it again, "look at me."
I slowly open my eyes to see him staring back at me. "I told you that I wasn't leaving you. I'm right here."
"Why? Why do you want me? Silver look at me. This is me...I am broken. Look at my hair, my skin. my eyes, I am not who you fell in love with...look at me. Thank you for having them heal me but I will never be who I was."
"Azurite...you are the one I want. I fell in love with the girl inside of you. You are an amazing being."
"I'm changing more and more. The longer I am here I lose more of who I was. The only thing is, is that the stubs on my back will always remain to prove to me who I once was. A reminder of who I use to be, a fairy, a winged being who lost her wings because she disobeyed Malachite." This time I wipe away the tears that fall.
"No one has to know but us." He rubs his hand over mine.
"But we both know that is not true...is it?" He looks down at our hands not saying a word. "You told your grandfather and he told the elders. They all came here to heal me. Not to mention others that came by to see me. Everyone here knows don't they?"
"Yes...everyone on the Reservation knows." I turn my head and he gets up and kneels in front of me. "Azurite, they all care about you. They all healed you so that we can be together. Fon't you see...I...I love you. There is only you."
"Silver..."
He reaches up and his eyes wonder around as if trying to get into my soul. He looks at me longingly with this desire in his eyes to devour me. I glare into his eyes and it's like I know what he is thinking in that split second. I can't get out the words before his lips crash into mine, so soft and gentle he takes my breath away. I don't want him to stop. I want him to never let go of me. I slide down off the bed letting him hold me.
"Silver...I love you."
