001
Jimin's feet padded down the damp earth. The dirt sinking deep within his toes calling to him. He sighed inhaling the vegetation smell that seemed to call to him. He would have ventured further, yet his fear of being captured by the wildings kept him chained to the village boundaries.
"Jiminie?" Taehyung's voice brought him back "what are you doing out here?" He panted. Out of breath, he dropped his hands to his knees "I thought you were taken," a few beads of sweat dripped down his nose as he tried to slow his heart. Jimin was standing at the top of the valley edge wanting to walk further into the trees.
"I just wanted to look, Tae," Jimin replied taking Taehyung's sweaty hand in his and leading them back down the road to the small village after he seemed to be able to breathe without his lungs feeling on fire.
"D-don't do that...it worries me, especially with our neighboring villages getting pillaged," Tae said swinging their connected hands looking around the small stretch of trees ensuring they were not being watched by beady yellow eyes. The fear keeping them secluded in the small valley not leaving unless of the utmost necessity.
"I know," Jimin replied kissing Tae's smooth cheek, "I'll be more careful." The taller glanced down at him fondly kissing the tip of his nose. "Mom is cooking stew again," he told the elder.
"I hate rabbit," Jimin grumbled the soles of his feet dragging into the ground he hadn't brought his shoes with him when doing the laundry that day.
"I suck at catching things, besides its the dry season. I couldn't find anything else," Tae pouted "I didn't see you helping," he teased playfully bumping into the smaller boy.
"Sorry," Jimin sheepishly said kissing his cheek again "I was just distracted,"
"I know, you say that nearly every day," Taehyung said looking forward at the little family house. He moved in with Taehyung's family when they got married (the family getting his dowry as payment).
"I love you," Tae grinned to his side proud of to call Jimin his. It had taken him years to say yes.
"I love you too, Tae," Jimin blushed letting the taller lead him into the wooden log cabin. The smell of stew and smoke wafted throughout the house like a fog.
Jimin had never been fond of mothers stew, but ate regardless out of politeness. Rabbit being too gamey and tough.
"Boys," mom grinned using a ladle to spoon soup into bowls for the family. The younger children getting fed first before she gave Jimin a bowl of the bubbling stew that made his stomach flip.
They sat around a long table the younger kids to one side and the adults on the other. Taehyung slid into the wooden bench beside him their thighs touching and the younger grinned patting Jimin's leg before digging into his dinner.
He smiled before grabbing a metal spoon slurping the broth into his mouth making sure to keep a straight face. "How are the crops dad?" Taehyung asked his father who joined them a moment later.
"Doing as well as can be expected," he grunted his wife bending down for a quick kiss. "Hunting?" a few breadcrumbs were stuck in his beard and Jimin bit his tongue. He wasn't used to this lifestyle, he was used to more luxury. He loved Taehyung enough to change his life, he married a man that was soon to be a farmer.
"As well as can be expected," Tae replied with his own grunt and a wry grin. He turned to his bowl eating a big bite of smushy carrot. Taehyung passed him his bread under the table. He took it in his lap finishing his own slice before eating Taehyung's. He knew the elder didn't like the stew so he shared his. Jimin scooped a few pieces of the thick rabbit into his bowl while everyone was distracted.
Mother joined them a moment later after fetching the water pitcher for the young kids. There were so many that Jimin still has trouble telling which ones are his brother in-laws and which were his nieces and nephews.
"Delicious as always," Tae's oldest brother charmed taking a seat beside Taehyung dunking a piece of wheat bread into the stew sopping up the broth. Jimin averted his eyes tentatively taking another bite of Taehyung's bread scooting closer to his husband.
"What did you do today, Jimin?" Taehyung's sister asked sitting diagonally to him.
"Laundry," he replied rather dully before his eyes widened. He had left their clothes down by the river. "Excuse me," he grinned standing up to leave. Stumbling over the bench to leave. He was such an idiot sometimes.
"Where are you going?" Taehyung asked looking at him confused. Jimin blushed deeply as the whole table looked at him. He dipped down and whispered where he was going into Taehyung's ear.
He chuckled "I'll help," he grinned setting his napkin on the table. "We'll be back," he said to everyone and they began eating again talking and laughing like a real family. Jimin just felt out of place most of the time. Taehyung had assured him that he would fit in better as he got closer to his family.
Tae caught his hand when they left the log house. "What am I gonna do with you?" He grinned poking Jimin's side. The night was in full effect as they walked to the river guided by the moon and stars.
"I'm sorry," he cast his eyes on the ground he wasn't the most experienced husband. Hell, he didn't do his own laundry until he moved in with Tae. His mother washed his clothes and warmed his bath every day; here he hadn't had a proper bath in a week.
"No harm was done," Tae said pulling him by his waist so that their sides were flush against each other. "I didn't marry you to do laundry," Tae said kissing his cheek. Jimin sighed looking at the side profile of his beautiful husband.
"I just feel so useless," Jimin sighed resting his head on Tae's shoulder as they walked closer to the river. The sound of running water closer. The cool stream passing through the valley on its way to the other little valleys.
They walked into the grove of trees to the river. Jimin gasped seeing all his laundry pulled from the line in the hands of a naked man. The moon illuminating his small body. Taehyung froze watching what the man would do before he started out.
