Ch. 3

Denise wasn't that bad but once Davis stuffed themselves into her room and shut the door on her parents deliriously happy selves, Denise was just a mess of nerves and awkward.

"Sorry about that,"she apologized when she walked into the room, arms flailing around awkwardly as if Denise didn't know where to place them. After a while she settled for just having them lie flat against her sides. "I'm not used to being around people. Social gatherings or generally talking to anyone is not my thing."

Davis gave her monotone nod,"It's fine, I don't like to talk much."

Denise gave her a shadow of a grin and sat back gingerly onto the corner of Davis' bed, her hands placed onto her thighs, "You seem to be doing just fine."

Davis forced out a small smile, her head was beginning to pound. It wasn't like she wasn't trying, because she was; she let the girl come into her room and even let her sit on her freaking bed for god sake's, that was her trying. Davis sighed, bringing the palm of her hands up to her temples and rubbed.

"Say, why is you're room black?," came Denise's grating voice, making Davis' brain squeeze painfully.

"Does there have to be a purpose?," Davis grumbled as she turned to her dresser to rummage through it in search of a pain killer.

"I guess not," the girl mumbled back as if she regretted even talking. "Black is just not my thing. It's so dark."

Davis looked up into her mirror to see Denise, staring blankly at the black walls. The girl no longer had her hands on her thighs, now they wrapped around herself. Goosebumps rose on the bare of her arms and she gave a shiver before turning to Davis. She spread her lips in a small smile, the pink velvety look of them brightening her teeth. Her brown eyes weren't as calm as before but it seemed like she was trying not to look uncomfortable.

"So new school," Denise started into the silence that was settling between both the senior girls. "Lets go over your schedule."

Davis groaned internally, her hand retching back into the dresser, in search of the pain pill.

Mondays suck, especially this Monday, Davis reckoned as she hopped on a one shoed foot. She had woken up late, having a very stressful night as she imagined the horrors of a new school. She had a nightmare, thank the lords it wasn't the usual one, instead she was trying to walk down a crowded grey hallway, its inhabitants were facing away from her, their backs towards hers, and dressed in dark cloaks. She tried pushing past them but after trying twice to squeeze between them, she uttered a shaky 'excuse me' that echoed and bounced off the walls. At first she thought it had no effect on them but then they all moved to the side, at once. They created a pathway, her breathe caught as she saw the sight of their faces.

Death.

They all wore a death mask over their faces, swallowing she marched onward. She tucked in her arms inwards and ran head first into the hall. But as hard as she ran, the end if the hallway was no where insight. After a while Davis stopped, realizing that she was doing nothing more than running in place. That's when she woke up, in a cold sweat but still dry.

Davis stumbled as a honk shook her out of her thoughts, finally being able to pull on her shoe. Davis looked up in confusion, to see a black range rover pulling up the drive way. The window rolled down to show a sun glassed Denise, a small frown pulled on her face. She nodded toward the passenger side and that is when Davis remembered that she was being driven to school from now on, by Denise. oh joy.

Denise Bryan was not a morning person. Davis came to the conclusion as she watched a grumpy Denise jerked through lanes and flipped off other cars as they made their way to school. At one point Davis rolled down the window, only to find herself being whiped in the face by a harsh salty wind.

"Oh my god!," she yelled fumbling to roll up the window. "What the hell is that?"

Denise chuckled,"Welcome to Klave, Davis. Where if a mosquito doesn't give you yellow fever then you slapped by a sea breeze."

Davis clenched her hands, everything was against her today. First she woke up late and now nature is fighting her for now reason.

"I though sea breeze was supposed to be gentle,"Davis questioned gloomily.

Her driver snorted,"Klave is closer to the sea than any other town in America. We get ten hurricanes every summer and whales always was up on shore."

Davis wasn't too sure if the whale thing was real or not but she couldn't tell if Denise was lying or not. Her face was set as if she was smelling something very nasty. Suddenly the car stopped and Davis lifted her head to see they had in fact parked into a lively parking lot. Teens were running around, rusty minivans and shiny big SUVs' were pilling to the lot. Honking and scrounging around for an empty space.

Denise shook her head at the chaos and jumped out of the vehicle. She didn't know that she had left a Panicking Davis in the passenger seat. Davis began to sweat and her stomach churned, wanting to throw up the banana she rushed to eat. She squeezed her eyes shut and began to count to ten, just as her therapist kept repeating to her over her own screams, over and over again to try and calm down her beating heart. One, two, three, four-

A knock at the window interrupted her counting, Davis wiped her head to the passenger window. Denise lifted up her school bag and pointed at it, motioning Davis to get out. With a shaky sigh Davis lifted up her backpack with one hand while opening the door with her right. She flinched at the smell that welcomed her, how can somebody get used to this?, she thought in disbelief.

"Davis, welcome to your new school," Denise said with an overly fake voice,"Klave High School!"

Davis gave a short nod and looked at her school. One thing she noticed was that it was not as tall as her old school, and smaller than it should be. While her old school looked like a big wware house, Klave High looked like a small Catholic Church, then agian it could have been a Church before. She doudted eveyr on could fit in that small building.

Denise nudged her,"Come on, we got here early just so I can show you around."

Shaking out the jitters in her hands and ignoring the loud beating of her heart, Davis gave Denise a raised eyebrow, "Are you going to show me around or what?"

Denise frowned at the abrupt mood change, but mentally sighed as she turned toward the schools side entrance,"This is the only entrance. The Principle like to hang around here after the first bell rings, after the second bell rings the door closes for the whole school hour. If you're every late go around the school to the back, there you will see a tiny window that's painted red, knock twice. Password is 'Rapunzel, Rapunzel let down your long hair' step onto the steoping stool and climb in. First ones free, second one is five dollars, got it?"

Davis gave her a whithering look,"You're joking right?"

Denise raised a brow,"Nope, oh and the password changes every two Mondays. New one is always posted on Samuel Kenerdy's facebook page."

Denise laughed at Davis' expression again, new people where always interesting, yet this new student was not so easy to get along with. Usually, Denise hated moody people, seeing as she was one of them herself but after she had gone home that firt meeting and told her mom about the encounter and distant girl she swore to herself to just leave the girl alone all togetehr and ignore her as best as she could. But her mother, who was always o her heels, made her swear to keep an eye on the new girl. And Densie knew why. Yesterday, when she first meet Davis and her parents, she knew that something happened. Nobody could be that cautious and distant from the world just because they wanted to. She didn't want to pry though, even if she so badly wanted to, instead she gave Davis a warm smile and beckoned the girl inside.

Davis was impressed the school house was bigger than it seemed.

"This is the cafeteria," she imotioned to the left where a mid sized room could be seen, "Food's okay, I guess, but then again that's a statement from my boyfriend. I don't eat anything but the spicy chicken salad."

"Boyfriend?," Davis questioned in disbelief.

Who could stand this annoying girl?

Denise turned towards Davis, her teeth showing through her goofy smile, and the apples of her cheek darkened as she thought of her cheesy boyfriend.

"He's great,"Denise said,"you'll see him at lunch. Which reminnds me, I'll show you your classes?"

Whoever said writing is easy was a stupid liar, not only can't I spell write but I always get side tracked by a shiny object.

I hate being a dits. Also I don't think the song makes sense but I like it.
