New Orleans, University Hospital, 12 hours after the shooting

"No, you can't see him." Caroline shot at Elena. "You left. You don't care about him. He has been looking for you for months. He was totally lost. You hurt him. A lot, Elena, Katherine - whatever. You and your sister should just get the Hell out of our lives and never come back again. Ever again. Do you hear me?! Now go! "

Caroline now stretched her hand showing Elena to the corridor exit.

The nurses, who where standing by now had to interfere as they had two pregnant women in obvious distress. One was furious and the other on the brink of bursting out crying.

"Ladies" the nurse in charge approached them,"please, calm down. Come on, sit down, please."

"What is going on?" Klaus now said as he got out of the ICU room with the Attending. But seeing Elena, it was clear why Caroline got upset.

Elena stood up now as she saw Klaus and as she wanted to ask him to see Elijah, she felt a cramp hit her hard and she now went down on her knees, feeling a cold sweat break out.

The nurses and the Atrending jumped to her aid.

"Ah, now she is faking that as well" Caroline spat not able to control her rage.

Klaus went to his heavily pregnant wife, trying to calm her down.

"Caroline, stop it. Being angry is not good for you either. What are you thinking?"

"I am thinking - argh- how dare she show up now, saying that she cares?!" Caroline continued, her anger not subsiding.

Klaus took Caroline's hands and crouched down. "I know how you feel about her and the whole situation, but we promised Elijah- we will keep it to ourselves. The press is everywhere, and he is in there fighting for his life, so we just focus on him. Now. Baby, too. Ours and his. Ok?"

Caroline exhaled and nodded as she knew that her getting so mad was not good for any of them.
"I am sorry - but when I saw her - it just made my blood boil."

"I will deal with all of this, ok? You need to be calm. All right?"

"Yes, all right."Caroline said nodding.

"Good." Klaus gave his wife a peck and then went to see if Elena was all right as they took her to an examination room.

Upon asking how Elena was, the OB-Gyn, first now asked who he was to Elena.

"Ahm - she is my brother's - sister-in-law. And this child is his. I need to know if she is all right."

The OBGyn could understand the complexity of the situation, as everyone knew who they were. Elijah's shooting was all over the news.

The OB-Gyn reluctuntly let Klaus see Elena.

"Not long." the specialists said.

Getting in the room, Klaus now saw the brunette strapped to a minitor that was checking the contractions.

"I am sorry for everything." Elena turned to Klaus as he came in.

The nurse, who was there with Elena reminded Klaus that Elena must not be stressed.

"Elena, it's ok. Like the nurse said, just focus on the baby. And be calm."

"Please, tell me - how is he? How is Elijah? What actually happened? Who shot him?"

"The operation went well. But he is in ICU, as they had to put him in induced coma." Klaus went quiet for a second and then said."Katherine."

"OMG! Oh, no!" Elena exclaimed.

The nurse jumped as the monitor started beeping, the brunette's heart rate accelerated to a dangerous level.

"You have to get out. Now" the nurse said to Klaus."Now!"

Klaus went out and cyrsed silently. It wasn't prudent to tell Elena about Katherine.

The prenatal specialist that was paged got in the room and Klaus now prayed that everything was ok with Elena and the baby.

"Please, is everything ok?" Klaus asked the specialist as he got out of the examination room.

"Yes. But she is not to be disturbed at all. We will keep her for a few days to observe her. No more bad news."the man said.

"Yes. I am sorry. I don't know why I told her all - that."

"You are all under a great amount of stress, I understand, but - you have to have a cool head about you."- the specialist said-"I will make sure she is refused visitors of any kind."

"Yes. Thank you. I apologise again." Klaus said.

The specialist noded a little at Klaus and then went away.

Hours later

The nurse wheeled Elena in the ICU where Elijah was in.

"Five minutes." the nurse said to the brunette.

Elena, overwhelmed seeing Elijah hooked up on the machine, now just got up from the wheelchair, placed a kiss on his cheek whispering,
"I love you so much. I am so, so sorry."
