Chapter 5
Kellie's POV
"Are you joking? Did she actually call you? Please tell me it's a joke!" I'm mad at Ashlinn right now. I thought the plan would consist of ignoring the little brat until she really wants to talk to us face to face. That never happened, and, since she somehow managed to make a phone call, this means that she can take advantage of us and our weak points. I've never dealt with such a calculative and mean girl, nor am I willing to do so at all. Well, not that things involving anything else could be better...
"I had no other choice than answering. I didn't know that number." Ashlinn is trying hard to justify herself. Maybe Braylee believes her, though I'm not fully convinced. I mean, Ashlinn had a phone conversation with the ultimate liar and master deceiver.
"You never answer phone calls from strangers. Did you get nuts?" Instead of believing her, I scold her harshly, which causes her to roll her eyes on me as well as cross her arms and then raise her eyebrows. She doesn't like my attitude, I know, but she can't just do what she wants. We had a plan, but she only managed to ruin it. "Let me tell you, Ash, you're just a dumbass!"
"What? How dare you? If you call me like that again, I won't be your friend anymore!" Wow. That's exactly like what I suspected before. That snarky bitch is trying hard to break our friendship. Never mind, she'll never be our friend nor will she be able to destroy it. What's certain is that she'll be lonely, which she deserves.
"I don't think calling her dumbass would change things for the better. I believe the two of you should stop arguing and try to devise a backup plan instead," points out (correctly) Braylee. Why am I wasting my time with such pointless arguments? Why can't I just stay focused on the plan? The little brat will pay for what she did. That's something there's nothing to disagree with. She's plain mean, that's it.
However, I insist, "I still believe Ash messed up, big time. She's cracking under too much pressure, plus she can't follow plans. We'll devise a new one by ourselves. Let's go, Braylee."
Braylee is confused, like she doesn't even want to follow me. I'm under the impression that she thinks I'm bossy. But, come on, I'm not like that. She's just convinced of that because I didn't even listen to either her or Ashlinn. Anyway, it's all about doing the right thing, not what we want.
Ashlinn is about to leave, which is very childish and immature of hers, as she should take full responsibility of her mistakes instead. Never mind. I don't need a betrayer as a friend. She can stay at her corner, like her.
"Come on, Braylee!" I'm even more annoyed at my friend's indecisiveness to the point that I pick her arm, hold it tight and force her to follow me, much to her dismay as she'd rather just try and comfort Ashlinn. No, no. There's no time for that. Instead, there's a lot to do, which includes isolating the midge for good before she causes too much damage in the surroundings.
For some reason, Braylee manages to get rid of me, before leaving, too. Now I'm alone. How am I supposed to face that witch alone? If this were a battle, I'd face a crushing defeat. By the way, it doesn't matter that much as I've seen much worse.
Suddenly, my phone rings. I really hope it's none of my friends, I'm not in the mood of talking to them. On the other hand, I have no-one else to talk to, so trying to sort things out could actually be a good idea.
Anyway, the person who's calling isn't either Braylee or Ashlinn, which confuses me. "Hello, Kellie. How are you?" I somehow recognize that annoying and shrill voice, as well as her ungraceful laughter that's covering it. I don't like it. And I don't like the person I'm talking to.
"Kellie, you don't recognize me, do you? It's me, Leighanna." Oh, shit. I'm talking to the Devil in person. I'm more than willing to hang up and run away, which seems to be the best solution, but I can't do much because she restarts talking.
"You look confused, Kellie. Ashlinn was much more confident than you," she points out, mortifying me. Why can't she just hold her fucking tongue? Does it require some particular extra effort? If not, it's something she should learn to do, because her words sound hurtful.
"Oh, come on. Just tell me what's the problem." Okay. She turned from a snarky bitch into a mellifluous and cheesy one. Her attitude isn't convincing me at all. I mean, why can't she just be herself? It's not that difficult; it's all about having a strong and winning personality, something she'll never, ever have, even if threatened.
"The problem," I state, "is you. You're false, you never tell the truth, for everything you do there's always an excuse. I've never heard you admitting your mistakes or seen you taking your responsibilities for them. You're never the same. Your words look so... how can I say that..."
She abruptly cuts me off, proving to be also quite rude. "Rehearsed? If that's what you think, then you'd better look yourself into a mirror!" She's just turned back to the snarky viper ways, which is proof that she has no personality at all and that she's just acting up.
"I don't like liars, but you are. That's a huge problem, especially considering that you want me to be your friend." At least, I'm being straight honest, whereas she's hiding under a cloak of lies. She doesn't even know what honesty is meant to be.
"You think I'm a liar because you never want to get to know my version of the story. You're always trying to mortify me with your stupid friends. You know what? Do what the fuck you want, but, please, think of my words." After saying that, she hangs up, leaving me even angrier than before. Wow, now it's true that she doesn't even know what respect is meant to be. If she really wants to make some friends, she has to change for good.
