Thump

My heart thumped harshly inside my chest. My legs felt as if they were going to fall off but, I kept running. I couldn't afford to slow my pace. I needed to run as if my life depended on it... because it did.

I heard the rustling of the grass from behind me. They're following me. I didn't lose them. I looked around me.

GOSH DARN IT WHY ARE THERE ONLY FUCKING TREES! NO BUSHES OR ANYTHING JUST FUCKING TREES!

I cursed mentally. I couldn't just hide behind one of the trees. They would see me. Running in a zigzag pattern didn't work either; that's what I've been doing this whole time. I think the zigzag pattern actually made me more tired but running in a straight line isn't a good idea.

I snapped out of my thoughts when I saw something in the distance. It looked like some sort of barrier but I couldn't see it clearly. As I came closer I realized that it was a wooden fence.

It looked pretty solid. I started to look for any gaps until I saw one. Near the bottom of fence, there was a small gap where I could fit under. I smiled slightly. Thank goodness. I slowed slightly, getting ready to slide under when...

I heard the noise just as I slid under. I looked around in a rush. I needed to hide. I can't waste any time. I know I can't run anymore. I already began to feel dizzy, my throat dry, and hunger shot throughout my body.

A decently sized house stood within the lot. I rushed in hoping that someone inside could help me but, I didn't hear or see anyone.

I heard the door screech open. I went to the kitchen as fast as I could.
