4. breaking her
"Wae?"
Kang Soojin first met Han Seojun when she came over to Suho's house to get the notes he made. She was down with fever and yet had to study so she would score the highest and Suho's notes were always second best.
Her notes were supreme.
It was a pinkish evening, and Soojin overhead laughter and music when the staff opened the door for her. Being treated as royalty was what Soojin was accustomed to, and she asked for Suho right away to the kind lady who would tend to Suho ever since he was little. She asked her to wait while she'd fetch for the boy and Soojin did just that, always the good girl.
Being bad came with dire consequences, and 13 year old Soojin knew that.
"Ya Suho, what is this smelly thing in your refridgerat-" Han Seojun stopped yelling when he came across a girl sitting on the sofa. "Who are you?"
One thing about Soojin, she was polite when she was spoken with respect and brutal when not.
"Who are you?"
"Ya," Han Seojun narrowed his gaze at the girl, "I asked you first."
"So?" She shrugged, still seated, that was what she was told. "I'm not answerable to you."
"Well..." Seojun was lost for words, as he eyed the very sassy girl, "wait, what does answerable mean?"
"Aish..."
"Why should I team up with you?"
Soojin was already losing it, the class was now observing them and she could feel the hot gaze of Suho and Jugyeong on her. Seojun being arrogant wasn't helping her either.
"Well," She crossed her arms, standing two feet apart just as always, "you were absent when the teams were formed and you don't have any team, like me. It's only logical if we team up."
Han Seojun scoffed, resting back in the chair and folding his arms, imitating the girl. "I don't care if I'm in no team." His casual shrug made Soojin stare at him, suprised.
"The marks get added to the final terms." She reasoned with the boy who shrugged again. "Chincha? You don't care about your score?"
Han Seojun tilted his head, "Ya Kang Soojin, just say please and I will think about being a part of your project." Soojin scowled, she hated being looked down at and more so by the wannabe gangster of their class.
"ya, Han Seojun," Soojin chuckled, shaking her head, this time the class and the stares didn't really matter. "You have another thing coming if you think I'd say please to you." Seojun watched the girl replicate his emotions, the clenched jaw, her furious eyes and that flaring nose. "You don't even have to work, I'll do the project by myself. And you get easy marks, I didn't think you'd be this dumb to not accept a profitable deal."
Soojin hit the right chord as Seojun sat upright, his looks and his intelligence was not something he liked being mocked at. "Arasseo," Seojun nodded, looking up at the girl, "but you owe me."
Soojin had already wasted five of her precious minutes behind this idiot to get him to agree and she didn't want to waste anymore time, so she agreed. "Arasseo." She replied and Seojun stood up, adjusting his uniform jacket he forwarded his hand towards the girl. "Shake on it."
"My word is final." Soojin glanced at his hand and then at him. "I don't have to shake your hand for this."
Seojun narrowed his gaze, withdrawing his hand, "cool, then you can kiss your marks goodb-" but Soojin immediately held his hand, groaning as she shook it.
They shook on it, Soojin feeling oddly warm under his hold and Seojun, well, his cold plan was indeed working.

"Argh," Soojin groaned, holding her head and almost wanting to bang it on the wall. "Why couldn't I solve the sum, it wasn't difficult." She looked at the solution after she had given her mock test and although the sums seemed tough at the time of her writing the test, they seemed pretty easy now. Soojin had practiced them already yet she blanked out during the mock test and now she kept thinking what her father would do to her.
That was also what she kept thinking when she wrote the test.
She sighed, tired of slaving so much only to get it all messy. She would have to face all of the wrath and the thought of going through the same thing again made her feel dirty and weary. She made her way to the washroom as she cleaned her hands with soap, and she did so for the next ten minutes and no matter how much she rubbed the dirt off, it just didn't feel clean. She stopped once her hands started burning and rubbing them with the hand towel, she headed back to her room.
Her parents were always busy. Her father was a tie up partner with the entertainment unit owned by Suho's father and hence he was more involved in the outside world than hers and Soojin was thankful for that. Her father's absence did her sanity some good but the days he did stay back, Soojin would wait for him to leave. Her mother however had quit her job long back and now she served as a volunteer at a local NGO, being with the orphan kids helped the lady move over the death of her son.
In all, Soojin was always left behind.
She was used to it, in fact, she looked forward to being alone because that was the only time she felt safe.
Her phone buzzed with an unknown number and Soojin picked it up without another thought. "Yes?"
"Ya Kang Soojin, this PPT you were talking about earlier... Which shop do I buy it from?"
Soojin genuinely felt the need to bang her head on the wall but she held back on her rage, she needed Han Seojun more than he needed her. "Why don't you let me focus on the project," She replied, pressing her temple, the headache was rising now that Han Seojun was speaking to her. "And you do what you're best at..."
"And that is?"
"Pretending to be the coolest guy in school."
"Ya! I am the coolest guy in school," his cocky voice made her roll her eyes, "I don't need no pretending."
"Chincha?" Soojin chuckled, shaking her head, "as you say..."
"Aish, why are you always so annoying."
"Why are you such a brat."
"Whatever, I'm heading to the bookstore where my sister works to pick her up, will be meeting you on the way."
"Ya," Soojin stood up, she didn't like the idea of Han Seojun visiting her at this time of the night. Although it was still 7 pm, and her father wouldn't be home until 9, she would rather not take the risk. "Wae?"
"Wae? To talk about this stupid project. I don't even know what the topic is?"
"I told you I'd take care of it."
"Ani, I want to be a part. My omma says I need to be a little more responsible." He said, and before Soojin could reply, he cut the call with a see you soon which gave the girl a good reason to brew a strong cup of coffee.
Soojin was in a fix, she knew that Han Seojun was madly in love with Jugyeong and in no universe would a guy like him support her, the one who berated and bullied the girl he's infatuated with. But what else could be the motive for the guy to tend to her when no one did. Was he pretending to be nice with her, or was he just concerned about her? Or whether this is just some petty Han Seojun act.
However, Soojin didn't have much time at hand to keep thinking about the guy, the test and the mishap she did held her back and she gulped, hoping she'd atleast get a better score than the term results. She was edging closer and closer in being Kang Soojin, the obnoxious two faced girl instead of Kang Su, the girl who loved her friends and would do anything for them.
Kang Su was her favourite and she'll miss her but for her own sanity, she had to keep her at bay. Kang Soojin had to study and just study if she wanted something from Saebom High considering she ain't getting friends.
There Han Seojun was racing through the streets on his bike as he zoomed away, he loved the wind and the way it would hit him, always his favourite way to calm down. This time he was heading towards Suho's lane, that's where Soojin stayed, and if he had to face that girl, he had to stay calm.
Suho, that son of a gun had already decrypted his plan, and Han Seojun was glad that Suho didn't get anymore time to decipher it. If Suho could read through him, Han Seojun knew he was getting too obvious and he had to gear up for this charade.
It all started when Seojun headed home that night, instead of marching towards Kang Soojin's house and when he reached home, he sat with his sister and mother who were busy watching some kdrama. He never really liked the dramatic shows they aired but he did love spending time with the two precious women in his life, so he'd sit back and watch.
The show highlighted school bullying and the bullied now wanted to take revenge for being tortured during their school days. Han Seojun hated bullying after he witnessed his sister being troubled once for being not so pretty and ever since that day, Han Seojun made sure he'd always eradicate bullying whenever he got the chance. His sister's tears had ignited the absolute disregard he had for such an inhumane act and to watch Lim Jugyeong getting bullied right in front of him by a girl who was supposed to be her friend had infuriated him.
"Death, they should all be dead." Han Seojun's mom said, yelling at the tv screen, "these bullies gotta die."
"Aniyo, Omma, they deserve worse than death." His sister added, pushing the spectacles on her nose, "they should be bullied too, given a taste of their own medicine and that is how they'll know what is to be on the other end." She said and Han Seojun's mother nodded in agreement, eyeing the protagonist who was planning a revenge scheme against her bullies.
And that was when it struck Han Seojun, what he could actually do to bullies like Kang Soojin.
"You would not understand, you did not get your heart broken."
Lim Jugyeong's words echoed in his mind and he nodded to himself, his sister was right, the only way to let these bullies be taught a lesson was to have the same thing happen to them.
And since Soojin broke Lim Jugyeong's heart and trust, its only fair if Soojin got the taste of the same pain. It would let people like Soojin realise how easy it was to inflict pain but how traumatizing it got for the victim.
Breaking her heart, Han Seojun decided, breaking her trust and breaking her, that was all he aimed for now.
He slowed his bike when he reached the Kang House, it was one the richest houses in the town alongwith Suho's, and entitled people were his foes. All of his raging thoughts halted when he came across the girl in her black oversized hoodie, who stood by the gate, hair tied up, her long sleeves pulled up and gaze still sharp as ever before.
Han Seojun almost lost the grip to his bike when Soojin tilted her head, meeting his eyes through the helmet he wore and when he stopped the bike, Soojin rushed towards him.
"Gwaenchana?" She asked, and Han Seojun cleared his throat. "Ya Han Seojun, why do you ride so rashly?" She yelled at him, like she was worried for him, "you know if you'd die here I'd be held responsible."
And there it was, Han Seojun was back to his senses as he got out of his helmet, shaking his head to ruffle his hair, "Aish, Kang Soojin, you are something else, I swear." He remarked and Soojin only glared at him.
"Well, atleast I'm not dying by a bike accident."
"Memmememe." He mimicked her like a little kid to which Soojin smiled, it wasn't much, it was hardly a twitch but she did and Han Seojun almost lost control again, this time not of his bike.
