A Day In The Life Of A Polar Bear
He prowls in darkness,
In day time padding softly
He watches and waits.
The whales swimming on –
Unmoving upon icebergs
He traces shadows.
In time the air stills
Clear water gently lapping,
Silence pouring forth.
Sharp canines of his
Spearing keen fleshly morsels,
A taste to devour.
To feed, to survive –
Hunger a rampaging beast
Worn and unyielding.
Plagued by weariness
Life has become grey and torn
Soaked in bleeding death.
In strife and in vain
The hunters are the hunted
Enthralled by instinct.
He preys, and is preyed
Upon in deathly silence
Life fades in red tides.
Pink skies breeding hope
Cast aside by mortal sins
Deceitfully spun.
Arcing back to bones
Ensnared by billowing banes
Forged by human hands.
Endlessly he waits
For voices to arise on
Snow-ridden landscapes.
Decadent despair
Breathing in blue midnight waves
Ceding strength to death.
His bleak eyes closing,
White sorrowful fur dancing
In his winter wilds.
A day in the life of a polar bear...
Plastic pollution in our seas spreading
Day upon day.
