21: Blue and Grey
Suddenly, Jungkook didn't answer my texts anymore. He didn't answer my calls. It worried me. A lot.
The next day the girl woke up with an even worse conscience than she gone to bed with.
She knew she needed to tell Jungkook.
She was so close to do it yesterday. So close to texting him, calling him or even turn up at his door just to hug him because she felt like shit.
But Nia wasn't the one to feel in the need of a hug. And even tho she had typed in the words, it was impossible for the girl to send the text message. Her head was filled with too many thoughts and it made her anxious and scared just by the thought of possibly losing her boyfriend.
She would do it later. But later becomes now and now becomes then.
It had been drizzling all night. The rain had intensified leaving bigger puddles on the streets. The weather forecast told that it was gonna rain heavily the next few days. Rather than the sudden heavy rainfall shocking the population of the small country in East Asia, it made them feel more at home as August was usually the wettest month of the year.
It all made sense now, Nia thought, Hoseok's behavior lately.
He had hinted it multiple times and he didn't hide the fact that he wasn't fond of Jungkook. It had bugged Nia why her best friend wasn't supportive of her relationship, but she had chosen to disregard it and blamed it on her friend's jealousy about sharing her.
But after what happened it all made sense. And the worst thing was that the girl still felt bad for turning him down.
Did she just lose her best friend since very little?
The one who had stuck with her through all she had known?
He was probably too embarrassed to even look at the girl. And at the moment, she was too furious to look at him.
She didn't want to lose her relationship over something she didn't mean to do. Jungkook didn't deserve this. If he got hurt, the girl would never forgive herself. She would never forgive herself for proving his expectations about relationships and love right.
As soon as Nia had woken up completely, pulling on a shirt and some pajamas shorts, she gathered her bravery and grabbed her phone.
Me: Are you free today?
The girl hesitated before sending the message. It was scary facing this, but she knew she was right to do it as soon as possible. The more days that would go by, the more it would all seem like betrayal.
Tomorrow becomes today and today becomes yesterday.
It would only be a waste of time to wait.
Early afternoon the girl checked her phone for the 100th time since she had sent the message the same morning.
He still hadn't answered and it got her on the edge.
She decided to send another message.
Me: Can I come over?
Another hour went by. Nia and her parents were eating lunch together, something they didn't do often, but today Nia was feeling down and instead of going out to eat with her friends as usual, she stayed at home eating a boring sandwich.
"Why didn't Jungkook show up last night?" Nia's mom asked.
Nia stopped her movements and froze before the sandwich could reach her mouth.
"What?" Nia said putting down her sandwich.
The girl felt the tears welling up in her eyes, knowing that by the next blink she wouldn't be able to stop them. A lump formed in her throat just by the mention of Jungkook's name.
"I asked-"
"I don't know mom." Nia interrupted her and left the table, not able to keep the conversation about Jungkook going anymore.
It was agonizing waiting for Jungkook to reply when all she wanted to do was hug him and tell her how sorry she was and just cry into his warm chest, wrapped in his comforting arms.
It was getting late, the evening closing in on the sky - and still no reply from Jungkook.
Nia decided call him. He didn't pick up.
Me: Jungkook please answer... I need to tell you something.
Another few hours went by and the sun had started to set, making Nia's room darker.
It started to annoy Nia more than to worry her when he didn't answer.
She hadn't told Jungkook what happened yet - yet he still ignored her?
He never ignored her for a whole day and it was actually making her upset.
The feeling of being ignored welling up in her, made her forget that it wasn't really her place to be mad. But she couldn't help it when he hadn't answered at all.
Me: Jungkook, why are you not answering me?
Me: It's important Jungkook.
Me: Just answer me
Nia had fallen asleep shortly after sending the last messages. The mood swings throughout the day had made the girl emotionally exhausted.
It was midnight when she woke.
She immediately checked her phone, but still without an answer.
They had never went a day without talking.
Yesterday morning they had talked on the phone as Nia was on her way to Haejin's house and everything had seemed fine. Jungkook was laughing as usual, shooting some quick remarks here and there and just being himself. It had all seemed so normal.
Me: I'm going to bed now...
The girl wasn't mad anymore.
She was worried. All the second thoughts erupting her mind made her even more worried.
It was scary that he didn't answer.
Me: Please call as soon as you see this... I'm getting worried.
Me: Goodnight Kooks
As the message confirmed that it was send with a sound, Nia closed her eyes and went to bed.
