13: Summer break
The sun had already rose, welcoming a new day in mid June and also welcoming the last day of school as juniors for Nia and her friends.
The sun beaming down on earth at 7:30 am hadn't woken Jungkook and Nia though, as Jungkook's room almost didn't let any rays in. But the alarm clock on Jungkook's bed side table woke the two.
Nia rubbed her eyes and turned off the noisy alarm clock, while Jungkook pulled the blanket over his head.
It was only then Nia noticed they had fallen asleep together. And the alarm clock now showing 7:38 am made Nia jump up from the bed.
"Shit shit shit." The girl mumbled and paced through the room.
"What?" Jungkook's raspy voice sounded from under the blanket.
Nia pulled at the end of the blanket, leaving Jungkook uncovered on the bed.
"We fell asleep!" Nia exclaimed and sat down at Jungkook's desk, checking her puffy face in the mirror.
"I know."
Jungkook was now sitting up in the bed, rubbing his eyes and stretching his body.
Nia turned to look at him with a frown.
Jungkook knew it was a school night and that Nia wasn't supposed to sleep over, but he didn't feel like waking her up last night as she was peacefully sleeping on his chest.
"Fuck, my parents!" Nia spoke, standing up to grab her phone.
"Don't worry, I texted them from your phone saying you slept over."
"You did what!?" Nia exclaimed, her cheeks flushing as embarrassment hit her.
What would her parents think about that? Rather what would the not think?
Jungkook shrugged and moved to sit on the edge of the bed, slipping on a pair of socks.
"Never mind that, we're running late!" Nia rolled her eyes and grabbed Jungkook's phone from his hands.
Jungkook changed from the clothes he had been sleeping in, offering Nia one of his shirts implying it would be sexy. But Nia declined and kept on the same outfit from yesterday.
In a rush, Nia leaped down the stairs, Jungkook sloppily following behind.
For Jungkook they weren't running late. He was used to wake up at 7:30, get up from bed at 7:40, then get changed and go immediately to school. He didn't need hours, which he wondered if Nia was used to as she was stressing about being late.
It might only have been 15 minutes until class started, but Jungkook had a car and he didn't live that far anyway, so the boy took the time he needed.
As Nia reached the end of the staircase and went for the front door, she passed an open door that led to what looked like an office. The girl stopped in her tracks as she noticed a man sitting behind a desk, his head buried in some papers in his hands.
It was only then she realized she didn't even get to meet his family as was supposed. She had learnt that Jungkook's mother had left, but she didn't even see his father once.
It wasn't more than a glimpse of the man in the office she caught before Jungkook lightly pushed at her lower back, making Nia continue out the door.
"I didn't get to meet your father." The girl said with resignation as she leant her forehead against the window of the car, watching her reflection overlaid on the students on their way to school they were passing by.
The man she had seen earlier must've been his father, she thought.
Jungkook's grip on the steering wheel tightened at the mention.
Nia turned to look at Jungkook and noticed his tense position. She didn't want to end the mood, and decided not to dig deeper.
She was just about to change the subject, when Jungkook spoke, "After my mother left, my father hardly felt like a father to me."
Nia's eyes dropped to her own lap, her eyes fluttering, feeling her stomach turn.
"Whenever I asked him what happened between them, he would yell at me and even sometimes worse, so I stopped asking. He doesn't really care about me anymore."
What a dick, Nia thought. The girl's fingers clenched onto her skirt, her heart burning with remorse.
How was this fair?
Jungkook's mother left him at a young age, his father didn't bother him anymore. All the while Nia thought it was annoying when her mother was being overprotective and her father giving her too many cheek kisses.
Out of all, why did he have to go through this?
"Oh Jungkook... I'm sorry.." Nia said, loosening her grip on her skirt a little.
"You're the only one that knows."
Nia turned to look at Jungkook with furrowed brows, "Why?"
All this time, and no one knew? What about Taehyung? He didn't know either?
"I'm not a rare case, it happens often." Jungkook spoke plainly, a brave smile striking his lips as he glanced at Nia quickly before focusing back on the road.
"Jungkook that does not make it okay?" Nia raised her voice a bit, shifting in her seat turning her whole body towards the boy, "Just because it happens to others, doesn't mean you have to shut yourself out and not talk to anyone about it?"
Nia's voice was filled with pure frustration.
What made the boy think he didn't have the right to be heard?
Jungkook sighed, shaking his head and turning down the school parking lot.
"Just please don't tell anyone." Jungkook begged, his eyes hanging low but another smile brushing his lips as he looked at the girl. He didn't want her to worry.
"Jungkook don't-"
"We're here, come on let's hurry." Jungkook parked the car and turned off the engine.
"Jungkook..." Nia sighed, placing her hand on Jungkook's.
Nia wanted him to talk. She wanted him to know she was there to talk to. He wasn't alone as long as she was there. It frustrated Nia that this boy didn't feel worthy enough to share all of his hardships with her.
She cared, but he didn't seem to realize.
Jungkook reached for Nia's thigh and squeezed it before bending over and leaving a peck on her cheek.
The small gesture made Nia's cheeks flush and push away the topic as she was reminded of the previous day. It made her feel quite embarrassed.
"Come on now baby, we're late." Jungkook said and exited the vehicle.
The bell rang, indicating the last period of the school day was over and summer had now officially begun. Everyone hurriedly grabbed their bags and left the classroom. The school hallways was crowded, all the students eagerly wanting to leave the school and out into the open.
Haejin and Nia were leaving together today, the two of them ending the school year with their mutual class.
"Why are you wearing the same outfit as yesterday by the way?" Haejin spoke, tucking lightly at the edge of Nia's skirt.
Nia shoved her hand away, giggling and her cheeks heating a little, red-faced that she slept over at Jungkook's house.
She didn't get to answer before Haejin dropped her mouth, "Jungkook has a Mercedes? He has a car!?" The girl exclaimed.
Nia snapped out of her flustered phase and followed her friend's gaze and spotted Jungkook getting into his car further down the parking lot.
Jungkook didn't usually take the car to school. He had told Nia that he didn't want the attention it would bring.
She chuckled at Haejin's flabbergasted expression. He sure was right about the attention.
"Yeah..."
Suddenly a pair of arms wrap about the two girl's shoulders from behind, "Summer break has officially begun and starting with Nia's party tomorrow, this is gonna be the best summer ever before senior year." Hoseok eagerly spoke.
"Somebody's enthusiastic." Nia laughed.
"Yeah yeah whatever, are we ready or are we ready?" Hoseok spoke empathizing the last 'ready'.
"Super ready!" The girl's announced in unison and they all started laughing by the movie pep talk they thought the conversation had sounded like.

Hi angels! ☀︎
I have something to get off my chest real quick...
I'm getting really unmotivated to keep this story going because I feel like no one is reading it. To be honest, it's because of the votes. When people vote for my story, I know they're reading it and enjoying it. I really hate to admit it, but it's draining to upload chapters no one reads...
I see the views on my chapters and I wonder whether it's Wattpad bugging out, or if there really are only 2/100 who vote. I'm not asking for a large number of votes and I'm definitely not trying to force you to vote! It's just that it's a great motivator to see people interact with your story, and it sincerely brightens my day every time I get a notification of a single vote or a single comment.
I hope this doesn't come across as greedy or anything like that. I'm just simply speaking my mind.
If you read this far, thank you♡
