07: Shopping trip

The tiny bell indicating costumers' arrival rang as the trio of friends entered the small coffee shop where they were considered regulars.

The sun was shining through the windows of the small shop, making the room seem more spacious than usual. This weekend was the perfect weather to go strolling down the streets and even though Hoseok had dreaded this day and was pouting all the way to the small coffee shop, he was smiling on the inside, happy to spend time with his favorite people.

The barista behind the counter looked up from his phone noticing his favorite customers. Favorite, because they were one of the few that always laughed at his jokes.

"Dragging him along on your shopping trip again?" The barista spoke and put his hands on the counter, ready to finally have some human interaction.

The shop was rarely busy and most costumers didn't answer properly when talked to -- they just nodded while keeping their eyes locked on their screens and as soon as they got their coffee, they left. There's nothing else to say than, Busan is a busy city.

Nia and Haejin turned to the tall brunette barista, both returning his wide smile. Meanwhile Hoseok grunted with his back turned at them, pretending to analyze the paintings on the wall.

"Don't act like you don't enjoy it." The barista, that was most like hired only to attract costumers with his good looks, chuckled at the bad actor.

"Hi Jin." Nia smiled and stepped closer to the counter to look at the menu hanging on a sign from the roof.

"Hey handsome face." Haejin chuckled before also stepping closer. Jin sent her a wink, loving the recognition.

"Let me get a..."

"One macchiato, a cappuccino with oat milk and one large espresso for the depresso in the back." Jin, the barista, spoke confidently, recalling his costumers' usual orders.

"Yes please." Nia looked down from the menu with a smile, then looked back at Hoseok who was still standing in front of a painting.

It was a small shop with only two barstools before a narrow table attached to the wall. It wasn't one of the most popular coffee shops in town, but Nia and her friends had always preferred it since the baristas Jin and Haein were truly fun to be around. It wasn't rare that they went to the coffee shop only to hear one of Jin's bad jokes or to see one of Haein's charming smiles.

The boss certainly knew what he did hiring the two charming and handsome baristas.

"Can you add a little bit of ecstasy in the espresso?" Haejin whisper-talked, making Hoseok turn around, "Hey! The sun is shining, and so am I." He put his hands on his hips, standing straight up with lips tightly pressed into a thin line.

"Shining very much I see." Jin shook his head and chuckled lightly before he turned around to make the orders.

"Talk about shining... I have to get a new pair of earrings!" Haejin spoke, "And Hope, I think you're the perfect model to try them on."

"Fuck no, I'm leaving right now." Hoseok turned around to leave, almost panicking just by the thought of the tiny needle attached to an earring.

Haejin crossed her arms, calmly waiting for Hoseok to turn around again. She knew him well enough to know he wouldn't leave when a coffee was in the making just for him.

"Your coffees are done Nia." Jin spoke to Nia, not bothering the other two who was being silly as always.

"Our coffees are done." Nia repeated a bit louder, aiming for Hoseok to hear.

"Right after this coffee! I'mma leave after that!" The coffee loving boy turned around again and grabbed his espresso.

After finishing their coffees, the friend group said their goodbyes to today's barista and went out of the shop with bright smiles on their faces, except for one. Now that they've had their coffees, the chestnut haired guy's nightmare was about to begin.

Don't get him wrong, Hoseok loved buying clothes, especially the expensive kind, but taking 5 hours just to get home with one plain shirt was not something he treasured. However, something he truly treasured was spending time with his best friends, especially the girl he had known for much longer.

Saying no to go with them wasn't even an option.

The girls knew how much Hoseok hated waiting for them to pick which black top was better, so that he always came wondered them.

They knew he hated to wait for them outside the dressing room. Sometimes they even found him napping on a chair in the corner of the store. They knew he especially hated when they went lingerie shopping, and if it wasn't because it was totally amusing to see him so embarrassed inside a lingerie store, they wouldn't do it when he was there.

They also knew of Hoseok's love for expensive clothes, but he rarely bought anything when he was with them. Both the girl's thought it was weird, but really the poor boy was just too exhausted following around the girls all day with bags that weren't even his.

"Look a puppy!" Haejin exclaimed and almost ran towards the puppy that was bound to the side of a shop a little further ahead of them.

It made Nia doubt if her friend wasn't 10 still.

"Haejin! Do not pet strangers dogs, it may bite!" Hoseok ran after the girl who was already reaching her arm to the puppies head.

Nia laughed at the two, thinking they really couldn't be almost-seniors in high school.

The girl was about to run to her friends, but didn't as she went by the dark alley that always gave her the creeps when passing. Usually she'd walk faster because it creeped her out, but she noticed a person walking further into the dark.

On a daily basis it was empty, only an unoccupied office that hadn't seemed to be used in ages and some green dumpsters which never looked to be full, but anyways always had black garbage bags besides it.

Mainly the girl wouldn't stop and stare, but the tattoos running down the right arm of the muscular looking person and the black hair made her anyway.

Is it?

No, it can't be him...

What would he be doing there? And where would he be going?

Nia shook her head and watched as the boy she was positive was Jungkook entered the room she had assumed unoccupied.

Looking up slightly, she saw a new sign she hadn't seen before.

"Music Production, Musical Young Geniuses" Nia read outlaid to herself, frowning, "A music studio?"

It made her think of what Jungkook's cousin had told her in school the other day.

Jungkook had once played the guitar.

Maybe he had also once made music? Maybe he still did?

"Nia, are you coming?" Hoseok called and Nia turned her head to see Hoseok holding onto the pouting Haejin tightly, preventing her from petting the puppy.

Nia glanced back towards the dark alley for a short moment before shaking her head and walking towards her friends.

It probably wasn't Jungkook anyway. It couldn't be.

He had told her that he did not like music. Why would he lie.

"You seem off?" Haejin spoke as she and Nia were searching through the isles of clothes.

Shopping usually made Nia excited, but Haejin noticed her absence.

"What?" Nia shook her head, "Oh, I'm just tired, it's nothing." The girl turned to Haejin, trying to avert the subject.

Haejin chose to ignore that Nia was scratching the back of her neck, as if she was lying. Even though Haejin hated when Nia wasn't telling her something, she respected it. And she knew that her best friend would crack and tell her sooner or later.

Instead Haejin questioned on another topic, "How's things with Jungkook?"

The question took Nia a bit by surprise, thanking god that Haejin didn't ask further, but cursed after hearing her question.

"It's going..." Nia trailed off, a smile forming on her lips.

"That smile of yours tells me it's going amazing." Haejin spoke and poked Nia eagerly in the side, making her jump.

"Well we were on a date the other day and it showed me much more of his kind and gentle side. I didn't know it was possible to fall harder but-"

"When are you going to tell Hoseok?" Haejin interrupted and motioned to their friend sitting restless and bored on a chair near the dressing rooms.

Nia looked at Hoseok and sighed.

"I'm having a really hard time shutting up about how his and my best friend has finally started her love life~"

"Shut up." Nia's face heated and she nudged her friend's shoulder.

Nia had also caught herself a few times about to talk about Jungkook while Hoseok was there. It was tough keeping it to Haejin and herself only, but the girl felt like Hoseok would be too much like an overprotective brother and she didn't want to tell him before she was certain things were real between Jungkook and her. She didn't want Hoseok to freak if it didn't work out between them.

"Oh Jungkook, look how the stars are shining. How beautiful they make the sky look-" Haejin spoke with empathy mimicking Nia's voice.

"What are you doing?" The imitated girl asked, but the question didn't reach far, for her best friend kept going, but now with a deeper pitch.

"Maybe the reason this night looks so beautiful is not because of these stars or lights, but us." Haejin finished, dropping her gaze from the ceiling of the clothing shop to Nia's frowned face.

"What was that?" Nia spoke followed by something in between a scoff and a chuckle. The girl didn't know whether to laugh at her best friend's performance or be worried.

"You and Jungkook." The girl replied quick witted, not a mine drawn on her unbothered face.

Nia rolled her eyes, ignoring Haejin's attempt of teasing her, "Where'd you even get that line from?"

"I'm quite poetic you know." Haejin answered, turning to look through the isle of clothes again.

"I know, you should become a poet!"

The sarcasm didn't go unnoticed for Haejin, who shrugged casually and kept rummaging through the clothes, "It's from a song I heard."

A brief silence came over the girls as Nia tried figuring the song and Haejin held a few different blouses up against her own body asking for Nia's opinion.

"If things get serious, you'll have to tell him some time." Haejin spoke, hanging the shirt back on the rack as Nia didn't seem to care about rating the clothes.

Nia snapped out of it, looking at her best friend with a rather worried expression, "I know and I will. I just don't want to make a big deal about it."

"Well you are making a big deal about it by not telling him." Haejin said and pulled out a tiny dress from the rack, keeping it up in front of Nia after herself.

"Fine I get it okay?" Nia spoke defensively and put her arms up.

"This is perfect! I'll try it on and you will too!" Haejin grabbed Nia's hand and dragged her into the dressing room, passing a sighing Hoseok on the way.

It was getting late and Nia was laying in her bed, impatiently scrolling through instagram and waiting for a text from Jungkook. She hadn't heard from him all day and he never replied to her goodnight text from the day before.

Usually he was quick to reply, but now he hadn't answered for almost a day.

Nia's stomach turned and she rolled in her bed, scared he lost interest.

The anxious girl decided to open messages and text him, but when she opened it, she noticed two newly unread messages from Jungkook.

Nia's stomach filled with relief, but she was still annoyed that he hadn't answered until now.

Jungkook<3: Why did you talk to my cousin?

Jungkook<3: What did she tell you?

The girl's relief faded and her stomach wrenched.

How would he know?

Katya said that they didn't talk anymore.

Me: You haven't answered my texts since yesterday?

Jungkook's name popped up on Nia's screen, indicating a call.

The girl's stomach filled with butterflies. She was still slightly annoyed, but couldn't help but smile and get nervous as he called her. She bit her lip gently before answering the call.

"Hi." Nia spoke.

"Yes I didn't answer until now because it took some time to process you had been talking to my fucking cousin." Jungkook's voice was raised and sounded aggressive through the phone.

Was he mad?

"Are you mad? Why are you mad?" Nia asked.

What did she do wrong?

"Just answer me, what did she say to you?"

"Jungkook I don't want to talk if you're gonna talk to me like that." Nia spoke with a firm tone in her voice.

What was he almost yelling for? She did nothing wrong. In fact, it was Katya who had approached her.

A sigh sounded from the other side of the phone, making Nia's tightened expression soften.

"I'm sorry." Jungkook said lowly.

"What's so bad about me talking to your cousin anyway?"

The fact that Jungkook seemed upset that Nia had met some of his family left her slightly hurt. What if this "relationship" really wasn't going the way she thought?

"It's nothing." He grunted, again Nia's face tightening at his stupid attitude.

"If you really wanna know that bad, we bumped into each other in the hallway and just had a small talk. Actually I didn't even know it was your cousin, but sorry about that." The places switched and Nia was now the one to raise her voice.

She may have liked him, but she did not like his attitude when she was actually upset and confused as to why he hadn't contacted her in a whole day.

"Nia-"

"Is that all you wanted to know?"

Jungkook sighed again, this time a deeper one.

Was she annoying him now?

"No, Nia wait-"

"Good, bye." Nia cut him off again and hung up the call.

After such a good day, getting her mood down because of the boy she liked vented his anger out on her, wasn't what she preferred.

After such a good day, it wasn't exactly what she would have preferred for her mood to turn low because the boy she liked vented out his anger on her.
