Chapter Six

After her failed attempt to escape, the girl had awoken naked and restrained on a cold metal surgery table. Shivering, her eyes flew open. Three men and a woman in white lab coats handled her dirty clothes which were taken off of her while she was out cold.

A tear ran down her face as they found some of her worldly possessions, three Minties, an out-of-date bank card, a small pocket-sized diary, a pair of fingerless gloves and a wallet-sized picture of two young and unclean girls waving.

After putting her belongings into a box and carelessly kicking them into a large metal cabinet, they wheeled her bed into a tiled room and started painfully scrubbing her naked body until it was red and raw. She couldn't help but scream, tears ran down her face but they didn't stop.

Their faces were calm and unconcerned like emotionless robots with a job to do, and their next job was brushing her long mattered blond hair. After tying her hair into a tight and uncomfortable ponytail, they dressed her in fresh white clothes.

A much older male doctor, wheeling a steel wheelchair, came in shortly after her exposed body had been covered up. He took some blood and she let out a cry as the needle pierced her tender skin.

'Don't worry dear, all this will be over with soon enough. If you didn't cause such a scene on the train earlier, your cleaning process would have been less painful. You are being punished for disgracing Zenith.' He said as he pulled the needle out.

'I need to get you into this wheelchair. I'm going to take off the restraints and I'm going to help you sit up. Any trouble and I will have to unfortunately inject you with a tranquillizer.' He looked at her and waited for her to show a sign of a fight, but something inside of her had given up during the scrub down and she nodded obediently.

He gently helped her up, put her into the chair and restrained her to it.

'That's a good girl.' He said as he wheeled her out the door and through a long, windowless corridor.

'I'm going to take you into a room around the corner; another doctor is going to come in and take over. Just agree and understand your new purpose and new life.' His words irritated her but she nodded a weak nod and put her head down.

They stopped outside an overly large door; the doctor knocked on it three times. A man in black answered and ushered them in.

That's where she waited, and for what seemed like forever she sat there not being able to move. Suddenly the door crashed wide open and a tall woman walked inside, her hair tied high on her head in a tight bun, and her clothes were sharp and crisp. Her tall high heels clicked on the clinically white floor.

'I'm Doctor Goodman. From now on you will be referred to as Patient E05; this is your temporary name. You are no longer who you were. It's about who you are now and how you will help create a new world.' Her voice droned on like a recorded message, repeating itself.

'You will undergo a transition period which will start soon, and once your transition period is over, you will be seeing me three times a week.' As Doctor Goodman spoke, she continuously flipped through her clipboard, and not once did she glimpse at Patient E05.

'Do you know it's rude to not look at someone when you're talking to them?' Patient E05's voice shook. Doctor Goodman stopped looking through her clipboard and her head snapped up to look at the girl.

'The longer you hold onto the old you, the more time you will spend in here, and after the incident on the train, I'm surprised you are still alive.' She let out a laugh and walked towards the door, letting the security from outside the door, inside the room.

"Bates, take the girl to the holding room until further instructions." Doctor Goodman demands from the two men who the girl attacked on the train. Bates' sliced face had been roughly bandaged, blood was already beginning to soak through.

They wheeled her out of the room, Bates's hands on the wheelchair. She flinched away from him, the memories of his face turning into a canine haunted her, the hair on her neck raising from paranoia. They took her down the same long hallway and led her into a secluded room.

'Patient E05 will be held in this room until further instruction, Thomas.' Said Bates as they put the girl in the corner of the small room.

'Yes sir!' Thomas replied confidently.

'I will come back with further instructions. Under no circumstances are you to leave this room.' He said as he walked out the door leaving Patient E05 and Thomas alone.

The girl, still restrained, sat quietly in the strange, empty room, watching Thomas walk back and forth in front of the door, anxiously feeling for the gun on his right hip. His dark black hair had been recently shaved short, his skin clean-shaven, but the bags under his eyes suggested he didn't sleep much.

Suddenly a huge explosion erupted somewhere in the compound. The room shook violently. Without warning the lights went out, red-flashing lights filled the room and a loud voice boomed through the speakers.

'Security breach in Sector 5, all security needed!' repeated the automated female voice.

Thomas wiped his clammy hands on his pants, his eyes darting nervously to the door.

'You can't leave me!' Patient E05 frantically screamed at him over the war of loud and raging voices outside the door. He ignored her as he reached for the door handle opening the door slightly.

'I know your name isn't Thomas.' She shouted at him.

He spun around; slamming the door shut, giving their ears a break from the explosions and gunshots.

'My name is Thomas Gray!' Anger flared in his voice, but she just smiled an incredible smile.

'You would think I'd remember my first kiss.' She blushed and the man named Thomas froze.
