Jaiden looked out the window as they drove down the streets into the neighborhood that was becoming familiar to him. He was relieved that Toni invited to come over again. Sleeping on the couch would kill his back, and knowing he was with Toni just made the cold night seem warmer.
As he stepped out of the car, the chill in the air hit him and he felt his skin prickle. He clicked his tongue in annoyance. He loved the New Mexican weather, but sometimes the cold wind would make his hands ache brings, which in turn brought back bad memories. It's almost been two years, but why did it keep haunting him?
He felt Toni pulling him into his arms and he gave in. At least with Toni, he felt like the melancholy melted away. Toni nuzzled his face in the crook of Jaiden's neck and kissed the exposed skin. "Qué pasa?"
Jaiden tilted his head a little to give Toni more access to his neck. "Nothing. I was just lost in thought."
"Are you still lost now?"
"Now I'm distracted." Jaiden hummed as Toni's lips trailed up his neck to his earlobe.
"Come on, guapo. It's cold out here." Toni said and started to bring Jaiden inside of the house.
The restraint that they had the entire day was broken the moment the door closed. Jaiden immediately turned to face Toni and pressed his lips against his. Toni groaned from the hungry desire her felt from Jaiden and he happily returned it. Toni's tongue plunged into Jaiden's mouth and toyed with him. Jaiden could feel Toni's arousal was when he pressed against him, and the friction made him moan.
Toni started to push him towards the bedroom, but never broke contact with his lips. They both shed their jackets when they entered the room, letting them fall to the floor. Toni separated from Jaiden and looked him up and down with a heated look. He reached out and took off Jaiden's holster along with his own and placed them on the desk.
He touched the hem of Jaiden's shirt and lifted it over his head, leaving his chest bare. Jaiden shivered from the cold air and Toni noticed. He kissed Jaiden's collar bone and pulled back. "I'll start a fire."
Jaiden pulled him back. "You started a fire here already. Shouldn't you tend to it?" He rubbed his own cock that had bulged in his pants.
"Oh, I will definitely tend to that." He said with a sly smile and brushed his hand over it before he walked to the fireplace.
Jaiden sat down at the edge of the bed and watched him throw a couple of logs in the kiva fireplace and stoked the flame. Everything about the scene entranced him. The way the low light played off his dark complexion, the flicker flames dancing across his muscles, the familiarity of his actions.
It was beautiful.
Toni turned once he was satisfied with the fire and smiled as he noticed Jaiden was watching him. He slowly peeled off his own shirt, revealing the muscles and curves that Jaiden longed to see.
"You know, I had a small list of rules that kept my head on my shoulders." Jaiden said quietly.
Toni chuckled and pushed him down on his back. "I think I remember these rules. They were boring."

Jaiden felt the heat from the fireplace slowly warm up the room. At least, he assumed it was the fireplace, but Toni could have very well have been the reason. Just the way Toni's dark eyes roamed his body made him hard. He wanted to do many things in this moment, but even if Toni just continued to look at him in this way, he would have been satisfied. Had anyone ever come because of a look before because he was damn near close.
"Tell me your rules that I'm breaking." Toni's voice was husky as he bent over Jaiden and ran his lips across his bare chest.
Jaiden arched his back a little to lean into the touch. "No men."
Toni's teeth carefully clamped down on Jaiden's nipple and made him cry out. Toni replaced his teeth with his tongue, causing Jaiden to gasp and thrust against Toni.
"What else?" Toni asked, his breath stimulating the wet nipple and hardening it.
Jaiden panted, unable to find the words that Toni was looking for.
Toni moved to the other nipple and gave it a small nibble, eliciting the same tantalizing reaction from Jaiden.
Toni hummed from the response and moved his lips lower and tracing Jaiden's abs. He treated Jaiden's body as a canvas and his tongue was the brush.
He unbuttoned Jaiden's pants and pulled them off with his briefs, leaving Jaiden bare and standing at attention.
"Tell me more." Toni whispered with his lips hovering over Jaiden's tip.
"No ah-" Jaiden cried out again as Toni's tongue brushed against the slit. Jaiden wanted to move his hips, but Toni held him down and licked him again.
"No what?" Toni asked.
"No... fuck... distractions." Jaiden whimpered. He had never felt so vulnerable but so stimulated before.
Toni smiled a little and took Jaiden in his mouth. Jaiden forgot to breathe as he felt the warm wetness encompassing his most sensitive piece of his body. His hand clamped over his mouth to muffle his moan, but as Toni started to bob, he couldn't control himself and moaned.
Toni pulled up, making Jaiden make an incomprehensible sound of complaint. Toni dropped his pants and stepped out of them, exposing the body Jaiden has been yearning. Jaiden's hooded eyes raked over his naked body, and he bit his lip in anticipation.
Toni's hand gripped around his own cock and pumped it, making sure Jaiden was watching his every move.
"Were there any more rules?" Toni asked, he was stiff and terribly hard.
Jaiden sat up in the bed and pulled Toni close to him, licking Toni as he pumped. Toni gasped and tensed from the sensation.
"Focus on work." Jaiden whispered with his lips playing on Toni's throbbing tip.
Toni's fingers tangled in Jaiden's hair as he helped him swallow his cock. He groaned as he felt Jaiden's lips squeeze him as he went down.
Toni pulled Jaiden back, admiring how he looked. His cheeks were flushed, his eyes dilated, and he was panting so close to his glistening cock.
"Are you sure it's me who's breaking your rules?" Toni asked.
"Fuck the rules." Jaiden replied with a smile. He was far too deep right now. He grabbed Toni and pulled him on the bed next to him. He twisted so he was straddling Toni. He bit his lip with anticipation, as he felt Toni's hard cock under him.
He lowered himself on Toni, feeling that pressure and fullness that he had been craving. He could feel the thickness stretching him until he was completely filled. This was a new position for him as a bottom, but goddamn he like it.
He was exposed and bare in front of Toni, as if he was putting on a show. And being penetrated so deep made him even harder. His hands ran over Toni's chest, brushing against his scars and tattoos. He could feel how difficult it was for Toni to restrain himself. He was trembling from holding back, letting Jaiden make the first moves.
But this is what Jaiden enjoyed. This strong and alluring man would give him control in the most intimate ways. They traded their vulnerabilities and power constantly, complimenting each other.
Jaiden slid up and down slowly, enjoying the gasps from Toni who trying his hardest to remain still. Jaiden loved the feeling of him inside of him, as his walls clamped down, he could feel Toni throbbing against him.
He moved his hips faster, riding Toni and stroking himself. Toni watched him with erotic fascination. His hands clamped down on Jaiden's thighs hard enough to leave bruises, but he had to hold on to something to control himself. With Jaiden on top of him, he felt his release approaching far too quickly.
Jaiden could feel it too and started to move faster and harder. He could hardly hear Toni calling out his name over his pounding heart as he felt himself come.
"Fuck, Toni!" He cried out and covered Toni's chest as he felt the warmth of Toni's release fill him even more.
He rocked a little, riding out the orgasm. Toni sat up and held his waist as he planted several sloppy kisses on Jaiden's shoulders and neck. Jaiden was panting and slick with sweat, but it was captivating. Toni didn't want to let go. He wanted to devour this man.
Jaiden ran his hand against Toni's cheek and lifted his head so he could kiss him.
'Fuck the rules' was the last thing he thought when he and Toni fell asleep while holding each other.

Jaiden knew he was dreaming the moment he found himself inside of that abandon church. But it was completely silent this time. Even the air was still in this damn place.
The broken stained glass was no longer on the ground but floating in the air around him. They were like frozen raindrops, ready to fall and soak the ground with color.
The moonlight streamed in and cold bit into his bones. He wanted to rub his arms to warm himself, but his hands were too heavy to move. He let out a shuddering breath and it came out as mist in front of him. His eyes swept to the altar, and he held back a sob as he saw the familiar scene of the body lying in a pool of blood.
"Tio." He said quietly in his dream. He knew the result if he approached the altar, but his feet still carried him there. He looked down at the man he cared for. It was the same as all the other dreams... it was the same as that night. His feet led him to the same spot as always. He knelt next to Carlos' body as if he was in prayer and held his weakening body in his arms.
It was then his eyes fell on the words that were harshly carved into the wood by some asshole, like they were mocking him. The ripped wood was soaking up the blood, making the words turn red and glaring.
[From my rotting body, flowers shall bloom]
Jaiden want to burn the altar and these cursed words with him. But he felt Carlos tensing in his arms, his breathing became labored. Jaiden turned his attention to the older man, looking into his fading eyes.
The silence was broken when screams from his past started to reverberate against the walls. It was so loud that the sounds made the stained glass shards quiver in the air.
"Carlos? No, Carlos!"
"Come on, Carlos. Open your eyes."
"You're going to be fine, just open your eyes."
"Tio? Please... I can't do this without you."
"... ---..."
His last words were lost in the vast space, making them muffled and incomprehensible. However, Jaiden knew every word he said, especially his last words to Carlos. He didn't have to hear in his dream to know what the last statement was. It was the one word he kept in his heart.
Jaiden's eyes were still on Carlos, trying to etch every detail inside of his mind. His hair had gone grey a long time ago, and the color creeped down to his mustache and beard. His wrinkles had become more prominent over the years, and Jaiden had almost forgotten how much he had aged over the seven years he had worked with him.
He ignored the accumulating blood beneath him and touched the wound on Carlos' chest. He wanted to remain calm. How many times has this dream haunted him? How many times have it ripped him apart?
How many times must he watch Carlos die?
The loss still overwhelmed him, and he pulled Carlos' body into his arm and yelled like a feral beast.
"I'm sorry, tio." He said in a hoarse voice and looked back down at the man he had admired. But when he did his blood ran cold.
It was no longer Carlos in his arms, but Toni. His beautiful eyes dulled and looking off to the side. Blood was dripping down his chin, and his caramel skin had become pale and grey.
"No. No. Not Toni!" He tried to shake the body, but he had already cold in his arms. "Toni!"
Bang. Bang.
The horrible sound of the gunshots that changed everything for him ripped through the air. The stained glass shook and then shattered into dust, removing all color from the church, and left him to wallow alone in the cold light of the heartless moon.
"Toni..." He shuddered and closed his eyes, trying to force himself to wake up again.
"Are you scared?" Carlos' voice made him flinch and he opened his eyes. He winced from the sudden brightness of the room he was in. He looked around and knew that he was standing in his old room at Valeria's home. The sun was already beaming through the window, radiating warmth.
"Why should I be scared?" He heard himself say with arrogance laced in his voice; however, he could feel the nervousness almost bursting through his chest. He looked in the mirror and saw himself standing in his old police uniform.
He remembered this conversation. His dream must have brought him back to his official first day of his job so he can relive this memory.
"About a year ago, you were some rebellious brat with nothing but your bike. But now you're committing to something." Carlos said with a laugh.
"It's just a uniform." He grumbled.
Carlos' hand gripped his shoulder. "It's more than that. It's a new path and direction for your life. And that can be damn frightening."
Jaiden bit back a sarcastic remark. "Were you scared?" He asked instead.
Carlos chuckled, warming Jaiden's heart. "I was terrified. Still am. Every time I clip on this badge, I am recommitting myself to my path. Some days are harder than others."
"But didn't you always want to do this shit?"
"It doesn't make it less frightening. But that's what we do as humans. We live with fear boiling inside of us every single day. Some people run away and never do anything with their lives. Others face their fears, make a stand, and keep running forward."
Carlos lifted the badge and pinned it on Jaiden's chest. He smiled broadly with such unadulterated pride towards Jaiden.
"Run away or forward..." Jaiden repeated as he touched the badge on his chest.
"Life's a puta who is going to kill you one way or another. Do you want to die with Life's blade in your back, or would you like to fight like hell and get a couple of hits in?"
Jaiden laughed, his anxiety fading with each broken breath. Carlos always had a way with words.
"What the hell. I'm a fighter through and through." Jaiden said with a grin.
The room faded away and he suddenly found himself sitting on the roof of Valeria's house overlooking the Organ Mountains. He was no longer in a memory, but something new and different.
"Are you still afraid?" Carlos' voice sounded next to him. Jaiden snapped his head to the side and saw the older man in his cowboy boots and hat smiling at him. He held up his usual bottle of Corona as if toasting Jaiden. He had made fun of Carlos for drinking that watered down piss, but now it was comforting to see it in his hands.
"Fucking terrified." Jaiden answered.
"Of what?"
Jaiden sighed and looked at the mountains. The sun was rapidly moving over the horizon, streaking the sky with the complex colors of the sunrise and sunset within moments. However, night never came; it was just an endless cycle of morning to sundown, back to the morning.
"Everything... This path I chose. The badge I wear. Shaming you... not being good enough for the man lying next to me."
"So, will you run away or forward?" Carlos asked but gave a knowing smile.
"He didn't let me run away..." Jaiden said with a chuckle. "I wish you could meet him, tio."
"Me too." Carlos' calloused hand patted his cheek softly. "You need to wake up, Jaiden."
His voice sounded different from usual.
"Jaiden."
The voice was deep and extremely sweet.
"Jaiden, wake up."
Jaiden's eyes flickered open and saw a pair of dark brown eyes frantically watching him. It was still dark in the room, but the fire gave off a dim glow and revealed Toni's worried look. He was slightly hovered over Jaiden, one hand on his cheek where Carlos touched him in his dream.
"Toni?"
Toni sighed with relief and his finger brushed against Jaiden's cheeks. Jaiden could feel the dampness on his face and realized he must have been crying in his sleep.
"I'm sorry. Did I wake you?" Jaiden asked, but he knew the truth. Sometimes his nightmares made him wake up screaming.
Toni pressed his forehead against his. "That doesn't matter. Are you ok now?"
Jaiden wrapped his arms around Toni's shoulders, holding him as close as possible. He could feel his own body tremble and felt the pain in his throat. "No... not really... but I will be."
Fear beat him back every day, but he was given the choice to run away or run forward? He was finding that his feet were gravitating to Toni and it was becoming too late to run away.
