What are You?✔️
Zoe's P.O.V
The corvette was way to small for us three but Death made a plan. He seated Zack on his lap which was really dangerous, but Death didn't seem to notice the danger. In fact when we arrived at the park, I was glad. I didn't know which of the two was driving, but one of them was a terrible driver.
As we got out, I took the park in. It wasn't really a park to be honest. No jungle gym or swings but instead a nature trail. I read the sign. "Bishop Bird Park". Not that it mattered to me. I was here for my brother. Nothing more, nothing less. My brother though was really excited. He ran in leaving the two us alone. Trying to avoid more conversation, I started after my brother and just for a moment I thought something cliche. I imagined him grabbing my arm and kissing me. Then I would have to kick him in his balls. Not something I was looking forward too actually, but nothing happened. He simply followed.
I was surprised to see so many people here considering the war. I thought everyone would be inside hiding though thinking back on it, that would drive everyone insane.
"The Remnants are one big family tree which includes many clans. All different, all talented. Being apart of the Remnants means safety for life unless of course you die in war. Then we do whatever the clan wants us to do. Leave them alone or take revenge, that's there call. We're all united one way or another. All Remnants. So they don't fear the war. They would probably even walk in the street if they wanted to. " Death informed.
I stared at him. The way he just said everything without thinking about it twice. Either he memorized this because he was the leader or when something happened, it was the first thing that crossed his mind.
All of this info just confused me. More about Death himself than the gang. Was he a kindhearted person? He definitely was at school, but I also knew he had a flip side to him. The side where he would control each part of you and manipulate you into doing what he wants. I even once heard a rumour that he could get any girl naked just with his words.
And the name: Death. I didn't understand it. Well, what I did understand was that it was for dangerous effect. Not like a gang leader could have a name Louie. It didn't just have the same ring to it. But there was part about it I didn't understand. His name held power, more power than it should normally. Not exactly fear of other gangs, more like fear of... non-mortals. That's what I thought best described it. It was unnatural or too natural.
He had mentioned magic when we first met. And he carried a sword. What exactly would he need a sword for, it made no sense at all. With him I had no clue what would happen next.
"How come you don't touch me?" I said. Once the words escaped, I started to blush and became nervous.
He kept walking his hands in his pocket, with his head down.
"So you want me to touch you?"
"You know that's not what I meant. I meant...ugh." I was getting too nervous to say anything.
"Don't worry, Night. It's not you; it's what's in these hands." And with that he walked off to a bench and fell asleep.
Three hours later, Zack was tired and wanted to go home. It was just past two and Death was still sleeping.
That's when it happened.
Three typical black SUVs pulled up, each spilling six dangerous men. As I said, typical.
The entire park stilled, and everyone drew a weapon of sorts, except Zack and I, obviously. Everyone surrounded me while I tried to look for Death. He wasn't on the bench anymore. Before I could scream his name, the leader stepped forward pointing a gun at the first person to be in the way.
"Now now, let's all just calm down. All we want is the girl and as you can see your leader has abandoned you so...ahh!" The leader shouted as a sword appeared through his stomach.
I repeat, the end of a sword was sticking towards my face. I nearly fainted.
Death appeared behind the leader with his right eye red and black. He grabbed his gun and shot two guards in the head. He pulled out his sword and went to work. No one dared interfere and I could see why. Death was in a league of his own. I was so intrigued I forgot to cover Zack's eyes.
In one minute only two remained. With Death out of bullets and a sword remaining, I thought he would just cut down the last two. Instead, he dropped his sword and grabbed their faces. Immediately they started screaming and seething. I could hear the sizzling sound. I just couldn't understand what was actually happening.
But just as it began Death took his one hand back. As the guard recovered, the other one was still burning until red, black liquid shot out of his mouth in a pillar. As soon as the liquid stopped, it stayed in the sky before descending on Death. When it arrived, it just surrounded him like a red background.
The remaining guard stumbled backwards, visibly terrified of the kid that now stood in front of him. Death retrieved his sword and walked to his fleeing victim. He stabbed him in the leg, effectively keeping the victim in place.
He then got down and said. "Come again, and I'll rip every shred of dignity you have."
With that he retrieved his sword(for the third time) and walked down. His right eye was still two colours and was now bleeding. The background was there too. As soon as he reached our little group, all of the others bowed and stood waiting for his orders.
"Can a few of you take them home?" He asked them. Some nodded and took hold of me.
They dragged me to their cars and put me in. Then a couple got in and asked me for my address. I told them and they drove us home. When we arrived we all got out. As I was about to close the door, the woman stopped me.
She handed me a pill. "Take this. I doubt you'll be able to sleep, so this will help you to relax. By the time you wake up your parents will be here. Here's one for your brother too."
I looked at the pills she gave, a sympathetic look on her face. She understood the situation. As she moved back to the car, I asked her one question.
"He isn't human, is he?"
She turned around and gave her a serious look.
"Not even close."
