Chapter Three, Death and Assessments

Chapter Three, Death and Assessments

The day after Amara had freed Kol's magic she was sleeping in her large bed with Teddy in between her and Nik curled up against his mother while Nik had a possessive arm draped over the two most treasured and important people to him; but as the sun shines through a gap in the large beige curtains right onto Amara's face she couldn't help but scrunch her nose and grumble squishing her face into the pillow to try and block out the light, her eye mask having slipped in her sleep.
"Morning Mummy." Teddy chirped, giving Amara a kiss.

"Nope. It's still sleepy time." Amara refuted, snuggling into Teddy's hair making him giggle.
"No Mummy. The sun's up. See." Teddy giggled, pointing to where the sun was shining on the walls.
"Nope, it's dark out. See, you can't see anything." Amara teased, covering Teddy's eyes, completely unaware Nik was watching them with love and tender filled eyes. "Good morning my sweet boy, I love you." Amara whispered, removing her hand and hugging and kissing Teddy.
"I love you too, Mummy." Teddy said happily, hugging and kissing her back.

"How about we go make some banana and choc chip pancakes." Amara suggested, smiling both tenderly and melancholic as Teddy scrambled out of the bed as quickly as he could - he was as much a chocolate-aholic as she and Remus were. Once he was standby safely on the floor waiting patiently for his mother, Amara stretched releasing the tenseness in her joints and exposing Nik's t-shirt she had quickly put on after their steamy adult session when they heard Teddy heading their way the night before. With a kiss to Nik's forehead (who had closed his eyes again when she had been watching Teddy leave the bed), Amara climbed from the bed, picking Teddy up as she went and setting him on her hip.

The moment they entered the spacious kitchen, Amara turned on the radio so the Mother and son duo could sing and dance as Amara made breakfast while Teddy - who sat safely at the table drinking his orange juice - coloured in his colouring book as he sang along with his mother. When the three Mikaelsons journeyed downstairs - Nik after finally getting up, and Rebekah and Kol having head up to their rooms an hour ago to shower after dealing with Bonnie - they couldn't help but marvel at the sight the pair made; they were a balm to their souls, and if every morning would be like this (even when more kids joined Teddy either as his siblings or cousins) then they could certainly live like this for eternity.

"Daddy! Auntie Bex! Unca Kol!" Teddy exclaimed happily, looking up and spotting his Dad, aunt and uncle leaning in the doorway with content and happy smiles on their faces which only widened at his announcement.
"Good morning munchkin," Kol greeted, gently ruffling Teddy's hair, "good morning sweet sister." Kol greeted, kissing Amara's cheek. "What smells so good?"
"Mummy's pancakies!" Teddy said excitedly, bouncing in his booster seat.
"Careful." Amara admonished gently, placing Teddy's plate in front of him already cut up and ready to eat. "Good morning Kol, good morning Becca." She greeted happily, only to smile wider when she suddenly felt arms around her waist and kiss placed on her shoulder.

"Good morning love, little man." Nik smiled, kissing Amara only for Teddy to shout, making both Kol and Rebekah, who were making tea and coffee pause in what they were doing trying to bite back their laughs.
"No Daddy!" Teddy shouted.
"Can I not kiss your mother, my littlest wolf?" Nik asked with a small smirk.
"No Daddy." Teddy insisted again.
"Why not?" Nik asked, a small smirk on his lips but what Teddy said next made Kol, Amara and Rebekah roar with laughter.
"'Cause she's my Mummy not yours!" Teddy argued, his little fists on his hips (like he's seen Amara do) and his wolf eyes glaring at Nik.

"But she's my fiancée." Nik protested playfully, trying not to laugh. Teddy just looked too cute.
"Mummy wins." Teddy stated smugly as if he won.
"Alright, eat your pancakes." Amara laughed, kissing his forehead. "Who wants pancakes?" She asked, looking from Nik to her new siblings but when she saw the look Kol was giving her, having noticed she was wearing Nik's T-shirt from yesterday, a stern look appeared on Amara's face: her hybrid eyes showing with an eyebrow raised and hands on her hips. "If you say anything Kol, you won't get anything." She warned, Rebekah smirked at her twin as Kol quickly mimed zipping his lips shut as those pancakes really did smell heavenly and he wasn't going to miss out.

"Shutting up." Kol promised, eliciting laughs from everyone, a blissful thought echoing throughout their minds, 'This is what a family should be like.'

Once Teddy was down for his afternoon nap, Amara headed downstairs to Bonnie's cell with Nik, Bekah and Kol following behind her. Kol and Bekah had told her and Nik that Bonnie had been brought to the manor to be dealt with so it was only her and Finn left; the three Mikaelsons had smirks in their faces that had been there since Amara told them her plan to deal with the witch-bitch once and for all.

"What are you doing here?!" Bonnie snarled, spotting Amara through the bars with the three Mikaelsons behind her.
"Oh do shut up!" Kol snapped, a sigh leaving his lips as he waved his hand sending Bonnie to fly back into the small cot in the cell, as she sat up she looked at Kol in fear. "Yes dear Bennett,' he crooned, spitting the word 'Bennett' as if it were poison he wanted expunged. "I have my magic back now, thanks to Amara. The Dopplebitch is no more as is Damon Salvatore. Our mother is no more and with your death neither will be the Bennet line. No one left to help you or carry out your plans now." A vicious smirk appeared on his and Bekah's lips as Bonnie's horror only grew.

"Now," Amara started, a dark smirk upon her lips, "I'd like you to meet a good friend of mine." She jeered as the shadows condensed and grew, the room darkening and growing extremely cold as a cloaked figure holding a scythe appeared standing beside Amara; it was Death. Bonnie's eyes widened almost looking bug-like, her fear was so palpable that you could almost taste it; however, her mind was working a mile a minute trying to turn this in her favour.

"Lord Death, I'm glad you're here," Bonnie crooned, confusing the Mikaelsons while Amara and Death only glowered at her as they knew what she was trying to do. "These are abominations," she exclaimed, pointing to Amara and the Mikaelsons, "and need to be dealt with as swiftly as possible before they disrupt the -"

"Oh, do shut up!" Death snapped, his voice cold as ice. "How dare you talk about my Mistress in such a blatant, disgusting and disrespectful way!" He bellowed, the darkness and the shadows growing with his ire. "I know your heart and soul and it disgusts me." Death continued, ignoring Bonnie's rising fear when he mentioned Amara as his Mistress.

"You are hardly any better than Esther, who sold her eldest daughter to her sister and agreed for every first born Mikaelson to be stolen by her sister, well too bad as I've ended that curse and pact. She cursed and modified her other children's memories, locked away part of their very essence in two of her sons. But what angered me most was when you threatened me and mine, all over a Doppelgänger and for this I condemn you to join Esther in the lowest of the Nine Hells where you will be tormented, tortured and will suffer immense pain for all eternity." With that he walked straight through the locked bars of the cell, scythe raised, and swiped it through Bonnie's torso causing her to vanish in a scream of pain.

"Thank you Thanatos." Amara smirked, a grateful and relieved smile upon her lips.
"Anytime My Mistress. Your children born from your union with Niklaus Mikaelson will be safe now and will not be stolen from you by Dahlia or anyone else." Thanatos or Death crooned and with that he vanished.
"One more to go." Amara told them, heading for Finn's cell with Kol as he was the only one with magic so would be able to help Amara better.
"Be careful and I love you." Nik said against her lips, bestowing a passionate kiss to her lips.
"I will and I love you too." Amara whispered. "I've added Wards which surround the property in two hundred yards in every direction. It's the same as my manor in New Orleans, so it'll stop anyone uninvited or with bad intentions from entering."

"You're brilliant." Rebekah boasted, a happy smile on her face. "Come Nik, let's leave them to it as it'll be a long and slow process." She pointed out, trying to coax Nik to leave. "We have Teddy to look after." She added cajolingly.
"Look after her." Nik warned, a dark promising look in his eyes.
"I promise." Kol swore just as serious as his brother, satisfied Nik and Rebekah left leaving Kol and Amara to try and help their eldest brother; however, all of them were still reeling at what Death had revealed but at least Nik and Amara's natural first born would be safe as they weren't sure if Teddy counted in the precursor to the curse (even though they all saw him as Amara and Nik's first born) but they were glad they didn't have to find out.

Rebekah had been right. It was a long and slow process but after ridiculously long hours every day for several weeks (in between talking to Caroline who Amara had suspicions was very taken with Rebekah), both Amara and Kol were able to undo all of Esther's dark and malicious spells that had not only altered Finn's memories but his personality, his very self. It was with this in mind that they decided to move past it all, if only for Amara, Teddy, Rebekah's adopted child/children and Amara and Nik's future children. As the hostile environment was not a good place for the children.
"I'm sorry." Finn apologised sadly, looking from his brothers, to his sister, to finally Amara who was sat on the floor playing with Teddy - his future sister-in-law and his nephew.

"We acknowledge your apology, brother." Nik commented, thinking over his words carefully as he watched Amara and Teddy play with a tender smile.
"But that doesn't stop the pain." Kol continued, he and Nik were suffering the hardest when it came to Finn and Elijah as they had helped their so-called parents lock part of themselves away, but they also knew they'd been spelled, (Finn had even been spelled since he was a child so he would forget Freya being taken by their aunt and not dying of the plague), so they were warring with themselves.

"However," Rebekah intoned at Finn's disheartened nod. "We want to work on being siblings again without the interference of our so-called sh-" she stopped at Amara's glare, offering her an apologetic look before she continued, "rubbish parents."
"I'd like that." Finn beamed, relief surging through him. "I - I would like to be an uncle to Teddy and any future nieces and nephews, either from you and Nik, Amara - I'm still processing that - or from Bekah adopting." He asked hopefully.

"And you can, brother." Nik agreed.
"But you need to work on yourself first and foremost. Find out what you like and don't like, what you love and what you hate." Amara cautioned. "You have been spelled for over a thousand years, ever since you were a small child. So, before you become Uncle Finn or even big brother Finn, you need to find out who Finn actually is." She told him wisely.
Finn thought over her advice for a few minutes and he couldn't help but admit it was very good advice.
"May I visit?" He asked.
"Of course brother." The three younger Mikaelson siblings agreed at once.

"You may have this house if you'd like as we're moving to New Orleans into Amara's family manor. Both Amara and Teddy miss Andromeda, Teddy's grandmother and Amara's mother figure. Plus that town is better to raise kids then in this backwards town, and Amara misses her best friends Vincent and Marcel. Yes, our Marcel, he survived the fire." Nik revealed.
"I'll give you my address but do not give or tell it to anyone." Amara warned dangerously.
"Of course, thank you." Finn smiled, reading the address and memorising it before he tossed the paper into the flames which pleased everyone. "What of Elijah?"

"After everything that went down at the ball and afterwards he just left." Rebekah scoffed. "He was always obsessed with those Doppelgängers, more than you, Finn." Finn couldn't help but wince at his past behaviour.
"Yes, I apologise about that my sweet sister." Finn apologises again, startling as Kreacher appears.
"Everything is set, Mistress and Kreacher has trained enough elves to help Kreacher look after the manor, grounds, animals and our family."

"Well done Kreacher, thank you." Amara praised, smiling as Kreacher puffed up his chest and offered her a blinding smile. "Ready to see Nana, Cub?" She asked Teddy, running her fingers through his hair.
"Nana!" Teddy cheered, everyone smiling as they left Mystic Falls behind.

It's been a few weeks since they had all settled into WolfStar Manor - (apart from Finn who had decided to go travelling to find himself) - and Sue Li would he arriving the following day to speak to Rebekah, and then to Andromeda to get a good impartial view on Rebekah's character. But before then Nik wanted to take Amara on a date so with Kreacher's help he prepared a moonlight picnic in the rose gardens so Amara could look up at the stars as he knew how much she missed Sirius, it was like a constantly open, bleeding hole in her chest.

"Where are we going?" Amara laughed, her eyes were covered by Nik's hands as he slowly led her to the garden for their date. Teddy was being put to bed by his grandmother and his aunt; both Amara and Teddy had missed the elder woman more than words could express, and Nik knew she had missed them just as much as they missed her.
"You'll see, we're nearly there." Nik laughed, a loving smile upon his lips.

When they finally reached the rose garden that was decorated so beautifully. A red blanket lay on the ground with a mound of pillows, a picnic basket with all of their favourite foods - including Butterbeer and treacle tart for dessert sat on a low oak table, fairy lights and dimly-lit candles floated around them adding a tranquil feel along with a small amount of light but not enough to overpower or outshine the stars, and finally a white gazebo was erected at the top of the blankets.
"Oh Nik," Amara breathed, looking around in wonder when Nik finally removed his hands. "It's perfect."

"Only the best for you, my love." Nik told her, moving her top out of the way so he could kiss her neck and shoulder. For the rest of the night they spent it talking, feeding each other certain foods, relaxing and looking up at the stars; until their kisses and light petting turned passionate as if a fire burned within them and the only way to quench that fire was to become joined as one in numerous rounds of passion both soft and tender, and hard and fast.

The following morning a nervous energy filled the living room after breakfast as Teddy played with both his Mother and aunt as they waited for eleven o'clock when Sue Li would arrive. Kol hadn't even teased Nik and Amara that morning, something he has done every morning since that first morning in Mystic Falls.
"It'll be fine Rebekah," Andromeda assured the female Original. "You're amazing with Teddy in the short time that you've known him. All you need to do is convey that and the reason why you want to adopt, as long as they are for the right reasons you'll do fine."

"Thank you Andy." Rebekah sighed gratefully. "Thank you, Star." She muttered to the small female House-elf with silver eyes who had topped up all of their drinks (black tea for Rebekah, strong tea with milk and one sugar for Andy, and a milky honey tea for Amara, a black coffee for Kol, and a coffee with a dash of milk for Nik), when Kreacher popped into the family room.
"Mistress, Miss Sue Li has arrived." Kreacher announced with a small but deep bow to Amara.
"Thank you, Kreacher. Please see Sue Li into the private lounge with a fresh pot of tea and biscuits and let her know we shall be there momentarily." Amara requested.

"Of course Mistress." Kreacher bowed once more and disappeared with a pop.
"Come on Bex." Amara interjected, pressing a kiss to Teddy's head (who looked up and offered her a wide smile) before she stood stretching and adjusting her rust orange blouse and brushed off her black fitted trousers, making sure everything was perfect as required by her triple Ladyship status even though she had shortened her name to Potter-Black she was actually the Lady to the Most Ancient and Most Regal House of Peverell, and Lady to The Noble and Most Ancient Houses of Potter and Black. "It's not wise to keep someone waiting when it's such an important meeting, but everything's going to be fine."

Taking a deep breath, Rebekah stood and followed Amara to the more private lounge while Kol and Nik took their places to entertain Teddy.
"Lady Peverell-Potter-Black, thank you for inviting me into your lovely home." Sue articulated, giving a shallow curtsy as society demanded.
"Thank you for coming all this way, Miss Sue Li." Amara acknowledged, returning the small curtsy before they smiled and hugged each other happily and tightly. After a quick catch up between the best friends, Amara introduced Rebekah who was happy her sister still had friends who cared for her.

"Sue, I'd like to introduce you to my future sister-in-law, Rebekah Thurid Mikaelson. Rebekah, this is a dear friend of mine, Sue Mariah Li, and who helped me set up the magical orphanage as my name would've drawn too much attention to it and it wouldn't have been good for the kids."
"It's a pleasure to meet you." Rebekah greeted. "I've heard such wonderful things and I'm glad my sister has such a dear friend."
"You are too kind Miss Mikaelson," Sue smiled.
"I'll leave you both to it, as I need to put Teddy down for his nap, he's been really clingy lately, but if you need anything or need me call for Kreacher and he'll be happy to help." With that Amara quickly left the room so the assessment could begin.

"Tell me, Miss Mikaelson," Sue started, a self-inking Dicta-Quill poised over a notepad ready to record everything, "why do you want to adopt a child or children, especially a Magical child who will require essentially more of everything than a Mundane child? You will need to learn how to deal with a child's Accidental Magic which is linked to their emotions, if they're sick Mundane medicines don't work for them and could make them sicker, and when they turn eleven they will need to go to a magical school so you will have to look at which ones you want them to go to, especially as there are multiple here in America."

For the last few days Rebekah had discussed with both Andy and Amara on what could be asked regarding core witches and wizards as regretfully both Rebekah and Kol were woefully ignorant. A fact that they had been correcting for the last few days.
"I understand more than most how precious children are, they are our future and they set the paths for us, even if we are older. We will ensure - I will ensure - any and all children are protected and secure in affection, especially those who have been deprived of familial love." Rebekah told Sue calmly, which seemed to impress the other woman.

"I've seen the repercussions of what an abused child can grow into and I do not wish any child to grow up thinking they do not deserve love or that they are going to be abandoned if they do something wrong, and although my twin brother Kol and I didn't know of Core witches and wizards until we met Amara, we have been working closely with our elder brother Nik - who had rescued Amara, his mate, from an abusive environment, with Amara herself and with Andromeda to fill in the gap in our knowledge. It has always been a dream of mine to be a mother before my parents stole that dream, and I was content to be a doting Auntie to Teddy and his future siblings until Amara corrected my view once more."

"She does that a lot." Sue laughed, and Rebekah got the feeling that there was a story behind that statement. After a few more questions, Sue left Rebekah with a bright and reassuring smile as she went to speak to Rebekah's brothers, then onto Andromeda, and finally, finishing with Amara who had been humming contentedly to herself as she did some gardening. Once finished with her questions, Sue and Amara returned to the manor and into the family lounge where everyone was waiting on tenterhooks.

"After your own assessment as well as speaking to everyone, plus I know how safe and tidy Amara keeps the manor, I can happily say that you have passed Miss Mikaelson with astounding results." Sue happily told Rebekah who gasped happily as her eyes filled with tears.
"Truly?" Rebekah asked, her voice cracking.
"Yes." Sue confirmed. "In the coming days I shall owl you over a selection of files for you to pursue, and once you have chosen your new child or children send me an owl and we can set an appointment for you to come and meet them."

"Thank you. Thank you." Rebekah cried emotionally, leaning into Kol who wrapped an arm around his twin.
"You're very welcome." Sue smiled. "Amara, I'll see you soon for an Afternoon Tea."
"Of course." Amara agreed, smiling at her friend as she activated her International Portkey. "This calls for a celebration!" She declared ecstatically. "Kreacher, could you bring a small bottle of Firewhiskey, four glasses and a Butterbeer for me please." She requested, a beaming smile on her face that was replicated onto everyone else's that she doubted would go away anytime soon.

"Of course Mistress." Kreacher agreed happily, looking very smart in his new uniform that Amara had made for all of her House-elves. He couldn't wait for more little ones to join little Master Teddy, now all his Mistress had to do was give little Master Teddy some siblings which Kreacher had a feeling would happen very soon.
