Death's Hero

The Giant War is over but at a great cost. They were killed. The almighty heroes of Olympus were killed. All but one. Only one demigod out of seven.

He was drowning. The son of Poseidon was drowning. Percy Jackson was drowning.

He was drowning in a sea of sorrow.

***

Percy was trying to get back on his feet. Most people would expect him to be in his cabin, not coming out, but he was stronger than that. He was trying to stay strong for the younger campers. They heard stories of the great Percy Jackson. They practically worshipped him. He didn't want them to know that he couldn't handle the guilt that was trying to tear him apart. He was jealous that his friends were with his lover, and he felt guilty for that.

The monster attacks were blessing for him. The sword arena didn't help anymore to get out his frustration and anger. The other campers left the fighting to him, knowing that he could handle it. He could handle it. They thought he was indestructible. They were wrong. One monster was all it took. Kampe. Percy fought hard but eventually fell, defeated. That's all it took, one monster. He brought her down to the underworld too, though. He died of her venom. The camp tried to save him, but it was too late. The fates took out their shears, only to stop. The thread of sea green had a golden glow. He was a god.

On Olympus, there was an uproar; people were shouting at each other and arguing. They had been doing this for five days straight, trying to decide whether they should kill Percy of not. He was too powerful, Zeus said. Then, there was a flash of light. All motion stopped when they saw who it was. The five people who could make the Olympians themselves shake in their boots. They were:

Thanatos, the god of death,

The three fates,

And Chaos, the Queen/King of the entire universe.

There was silence in the throne room, broken by the click of Death's scythe against the marble of the throne room. He walked leisurely to the middle of the throne room.

" Are you really discussing the  death of my husband?" He said it in a low voice, scaring all that heard it." He's already dead."

The whole council dropped their mouths as one.

When Percy died, he expected to be in DOA Recording studios, not in the entrance of Hades's palace, or what looked like Hades's palace anyway.

"A question and you can join your friends in Elysium," a low voice behind him said. Thanatos, he would recognize his voice anywhere.

Percy turned around and there he was, beautiful, deadly, and mysterious, " A question? That's it? No death defying quest?"

" Seeing as you're already dead, you can't go on anymore 'death defying quests', but yes, a question."

"Okay, what's the question?"

"Will you be my lover?"

***

Thanatos watched as Percy's mouth dropped, letting in a fly which he quickly spit out, " I know I'm not the best god in the worlds, but I was hoping you'd give me a chance."

What Thanatos had no idea of, however, was that Percy actually had a crush on him the first time they met, but that was overshadowed by his loss of memories and confusion in general. "Why did you ask me this? Annabeth's my girlfriend, and I'll see her in Elysium."

"Percy, Annabeth's soul is destroyed, and there is no one waiting for you in Elysium. They have all been reborn, something about how they needed to help the next generation."

"Why was her soul destroyed? Did she upset someone?"

" Her soul was sacrificed to rise Gaea. The Olympians don't know, not that they'd care anyway."

" What happens if I say no?"

" Your soul is destined to eternal damnation; the gods told me to move your soul directly to the Fields of Punishment if you died. I'm trying to save you. This is the only way."

"If I say yes?"

"You're turned into a god and will live by my side forever."

"Sure."

"That's it? No arguing, no bemoaning your fate?"

" Hey, this isn't a bad deal. You're hot, and I think this is the best way to see everyone I love again."

Thanatos grinned, happy to have the man he's been crushing on since he knew he could see lives in the future, and that's a very long time.

***

Chaos called the three fates, Thanatos, and Percy into their office to make Percy a god. The office was nothing fancy: a desk, a comfy chair, a computer that controlled the universe. All in all, it was an ordinary office. The fates and Thanatos flashed in with Percy holding onto Thanatos's arm.

The meeting was like any other meeting, ancient symbols swirling in the air, old as time chanting, dramatic music playing from the all powerful computer.

Only to stop.

Percy was sitting there, completely the same, nothing happening to him, not even a hair waving in a nonexistent breeze. Chaos took out an IPhone and clicked a random app. They took a picture of Percy, and when the results showed up, he was already a god. He had been a god since the final battle with Gaea. His anger at his friends deaths had transformed him into a god, the god of loyalty, protection, life, and heroes.

***

The Seven stood at the foot of Mount Olympus in Greece together for what they all knew was most likely the last time. They had all fought long and hard to prevent the Giants from destroying the gods and the human race. It would all come down to a final battle, however, one that would decide the fate of the Earth. They all worked together to fight the giants and kill them; however, they didn't notice Annabeth and Leo were captured.

Leo was too exhausted to melt the chains. It would've taken all his energy, and then he'd not be able to move. Annabeth had been knocked unconscious, her last words a pledge of her love for Percy.

They were killed on the stone they were tied to too, killed gruesomely and bloodily, sacrifices to wake Gaea. There souls were consumed by her, giving her more power to help her awaken.

The rest of the seven had no chance.

They all fell, the youngest the first to go. Hazel died when a hellhound snuck behind her while she was fighting an Earthborn, dead by her father's creature. Piper died when a 'Canadian' threw a fireball and her knife was no match for it. It hit her head, and I'm sure you know what happened. Jason, skilled though he may be, was overconfident. He assumed he could handle five hellhounds at once, and they ripped him to shreds. Frank died when, as he fought valiantly for his life, a monster, knowing of his curse, set fire to Hazel's body, causing his stick and life line to burn.

Percy saw all of this and flew into a rage; however, he was calm on the outside. Something broke in him that day, something holding him back from his full potential, something that kept him from being a god.

Sally Jackson was the goddess of kindness. When her son was found out to not be immortal, she hid in the mortal world, creating a life for her son to live without the gods' interference.

Percy destroyed Gaea that day. He took his symbol of power, Riptide, and chopped her in microscopic pieces and threw them into the void. Gaea was no more. She faded.

***

The immortals in Chaos's office looked incredulously at Percy. He always was doing the impossible, whether it was good for his well being or not.

They decided that they should marry Thanatos and Percy anyway because they knew that they were perfect for each other. Percy was always running to his Death, after all.

And Death was finally done searching for his Hero.

I honestly don't know how to feel about this one shot. I wrote it a while ago and posted it so that I could see how far I've come. This was one of my first story attempts, so I want to hear your absolute thoughts. Even if it's something like I need to edit it. I won't improve if I don't even know what I'm doing wrong. Love you guys,
