Chapter Eighteen: The Real Enemies
I shot up from the floor. How long have I been out here? I quickly took in my surroundings and saw my mothers limp body laying there. I tried to get up but immediately collapsed back on the ground. Well crap. My ribs were screaming at me, undoubtedly broken. I needed to get out of here before the zombies reawaken and try to kill me. Again.
I finally managed to get myself up, when suddenly a chorus of gurgles and tearing flesh sounded from the floor below me.
I winced as I made myself get closer to the edge of the roof. If I fall from the top of the tower I likely would not survive, but that's better than being attacked by a mass of zombie-like creatures who are craving revenge.
"Laylah!" I heard my name and looked around until I spotted jasper flying towards me. My vision was blurry as I almost toppled over. I felt his arms wrap around me and a gust a wind blow at my face.
"Hang in there, okay?" He told me as he flew out of that prison.
"I don't know if she's dead." I whispered to him with a scratchy voice.
"Shh, don't talk." He whispered. I felt us begin descending down towards the ground as the view of the castle filled my vision. My eyes felt heavy but I couldn't let them close.
He took off into a sprint still holding onto me tightly.
The castle doors slammed open as Jasper charged through the hallway. Guards immediately rushed towards us. My vision was blurring but I knew I had to stay awake.
"Healers....coming." Was all I could make out. I saw jaspers worried eyes fill my vision. As hands began hovering above me. I felt my energy slowly start coming back as the feeling of the room spinning settled. After a few minutes Jasper helped me sit up. I rubbed my head, it was throbbing, I felt exhausted.
"My room." I spoke quietly. Jasper and a guard walked with me towards my room.
"Stay here." I told them raising my hands removing the enchantments. I rushed in and saw a worried Lance, Ty and Noah.
"What happened?!" They all almost said in unison. "we got the blood." Noah added handing me a vial of her blood.
"I don't know if I killed her, but at the least I bought us more time" I said before rushing out of the room. I had to get this to my father.
I rushed into the hospital room, with the boys and Jasper following me. I quickly ordered a healer to get me a syringe. Fathers head was covered in sweat and he has huge bags under his eyes. I took the syringe quickly, filling it with the blood. I placed if over his chest before pressing it in. I released the syringe watching as the blood entered his system. I quickly pulled it out throwing it to the side.
"He's stabilizing." A healer spoke in shock. I let out a breath of relief that I didn't even realize I was holding.
"Laylah?" I heard him cough out. I didn't even hesitate I jumped forward pulling him into a hug. He immediately tensed before wrapping his arms around me.
"What happened?" He asked me.
"She cursed you with necromancy. We used her blood as an antidote."
"How did you get her blood? Is she in the dungeons here?" He snapped.
"She's trying to release the souls in the faction of the forgotten. I fought her, but I don't know if she's truly gone yet." I frowned.
"We need to get an army ready." He said.
"And you piece of shit deserve to rot, but I will give you one chance to prove your loyalty to me." Father spoke to Jasper.
"I apologize for everything I have done." He frowned looking down.
"Help us fight and I will look past it this once." He spoke standing up.
"Is the barrier still up?" Father asked me rubbing his temples.
"Yes, but I'm not sure for how much longer. She was too powerful father." I sighed. "I almost died just trying to overload her with magic."
"Together we will take her down for good." He spoke.
I just nodded hoping he was right.
"Laylah? Are these fucking humans?!" He snapped coming to realization that there were three guys staring at him in shock.
"They helped me save you father, I will bring them back immediately after this is settled."
"This cannot happen again." He snapped.
"Guys go back to my room, I'll meet you after. If something happens you know how to get back." I told them, smiling reassuringly. They rushed out and the three of us hurried out of the palace.
Hundreds of demons were lined up outside ready to fight this psychotic woman.
Father, Jasper and I made our way to the faction of the forgotten entrance. The gurgles of the dead walking towards us grew louder as we walked in.
Father raised his arm causing all of them to disintegrate into nothing but ash. We made our way up the tower taking out the dead as we made our way up.
We finally got to the top and heard her maniacal laugh. She was laying on the ground covered in blood and scars. You could barely tell she was even alive. Her eyes were pitch black and her hair was completely gone.
"You did this to me!" She gurgled on the ground. "I'm going to kill you!" She screamed at me.
"Enough, Cora." Father snapped.
He raised his arms causing her to scream. But something grew in her eyes. The craziness seemed more frantic.
"That was just what I needed." She choked. Before I could even react I got sent flying back. I skidded across the edge of the building. I managed to grab onto the side just in time. Dangling at least ten stories high.
"Laylah!" Screamed Jasper. I took a deep breath and felt myself grow in power. I got myself back on top of the building and unleashed what was left of my demon on her. She screamed as she melted into nothing but blood on the ground. I couldn't even look at Jasper or father before I felt myself collapse to the ground while darkness took over me.
