Chapter 4
I walked past the trees, my feet dragging behind me
I have walked none stop for a long time now, the sun begining to set already
I missed Melani, but I refused to shred a tear. The time in my prison had made my heart harden, and I no longer felt like talking or even having friends let alone talk with anyone. I didn't need them
That much I had figured
The darkness had been torturing, even if you got used to it. I trived in the dark, but this had been something else. The eery silence, and the chains that burned against my wrists the more they were there. The loneliness and the feeling of hopelessness were tearing my brain apart
I was looking at the ground as I went on. I needed to get to the tree so I can get away from the realm once and for all
I needed to get there faster
I dropped down to my knees, my left palm spread out on the dirt. The shadows around me grew as the wind blew my black hair away. The clouds went to stand in front of the sun, cutting off most of the light around
Black mist came out of my palm and up in the air. I heard a pop, and the tree revealed itself standing just a couple of feet right in front of me, covered in the darkness
It's leaves and branches had so many vines that dropped down to the ground around me that
I looked up at the branches and was surprised when they didn't turn black. There must be something preventing it
I knew there was actually, but it still managed to surprise me
I got up and the darkness slowly retreated, allowing the sunlight to shine again
I slowly stepped towards the tree and placed my hand on top. I imagined a door appearing in front of me carved out in the wood. The wind around me swirled and blew in my ears, my hair flying around my face just as the bark began to break, forming an arced doorway
I stepped trough and the ether greeted me. It was a place with no colors that was used to transport people around the realms if they could not do it by themselves
The darkness had always felt like a home to me and I greeted it back with a smile. I breathed in deeply at the nice sensation and imagined the place I needed to go
I felt the energy wrap around my body and soon I became weightless. In the blink of an eye I was moving so fast my insides flipped over. A portal appeared in front of me, the only thing standing out was the white outline. I went trough it and down on grass again
I span some that had been inside of my mouth and looked around. The things looked the same, yet they didn't. The colors were less intense but still good. The sky was less blue, the ground less softer than before
The trees werent even as high as they usually were
I must be here. Finally
The portal behind me closed and I made my way trough the forest. Carefully, I stepped trough until I reached a road
I walked down beside it, having no idea where to go. I could probably try and portal there, but I didn't have a location neither a place
Oh well, there is a first time for anything right?
I reached my hand near one of the shadows and tucked. It followed the movement of my hand until I managed to make a circular shape. I willed it to take me to the main city, and the portal began to spin. I grinned and stepped trough, the white outline shining on my skin
Big buildings stood in the other side, cars flying down the road as humans passed down the streets. I exhaled a sigh of releaf and pinched myself. Ouch, ok that hurt. So im not lost in the void forever. Lucky me
I had visited here sometimes, mistly because I had always planned to get away from my father. The safest bet was to go to another realm, one without magical creatures all around
That's why I used to sneak out during the night and coming here. I knew I needed to know atleast something
I looked down at my clothes. A normal white dress, a bit old but should do for now. Now I had to get food and shelter
I walked down the street with a lot of wierd looks my way. Yeah, go away idiots
Why can't I just blast them with my magic and be done with it?
Oh right. Cover.
I pushed a door open and went inside the store. The cashier looked at me strangely bit didn't say anything. One plus is that my powers didn't do any harm to most of the food. Just vegetables and fruits, but I had learned how to not kill them. A bit
It was easier than plants somehow
I took a cart and picked up some smacks, chocolate, fruits... and necesities like napkins and a tall knife.
I remembered to pick up a big bottle of water and went to the cashier. When he was done he asked "Credit or cash?"
"Uh, I don't have any" I smiled innocently
He scowled "Then get out of the store" he gestured to the door and I grinned. I took him by the arm and searched for his life source. I stared at his eyes as I letted my magic flow in him
"But you will give the food to me right? I promise I will give the money back soon" I said in a calm, sweet voice as he relaxed
The cashier nodded and smiled "Ok. Don't worry about it"
I took the bags and smiled "Thank you" and casually exited the store
I really was going to pay later. I hate using this trick I had, but it was nececary. I havent eaten anything in months, and I was going to treat myself atleast once
My body was starved, and so was I
I roamed the streets as I looked for anything I could use as a shelter, but no use. I draggee by as the sun began to set, and soon I sat down in a back street somewhere
I picked up an apple first before it crumbled down and ate itas fast as I could. My stomach crowled at the first bite of food it got. I could feel my mouth water as I began to eat the things that I got
The water didn't taste that good as it had back home, but I didn't care. It felt like heaven
I trew the leftovers at the dumpster and got back to my feet. I cleaned my dress and my arms from the dust that had now covered them
My body tensed as I heard something move behind me. I could feel it's energy, but it wasnt human. I turned around. A man stood there, his blond hair covering his face just so his pale eyes were slightly visible
I took a step back as I noticed the dagger in his hand, and two more swords strapped on his back. He was atletically build, more than a normal person would. An assasin
In a quick move her jumped at me and trew me to the ground, my back hitting the wall. In the blink of an eye he had aleardu hitted my head and I felt the cit on my abandomen. I used the energy to trow him back, black mist locking his wrists in place to the wall. He budged but couldn't move
I looked at my wound and scrunched up my face. Hate those daggers
They were enchanted so the wounds could not heal quickly
I went forward and grabbed the dagger from the ground, the one that had fallen from his grasp and held it to his throat "Who send you?" I asked but I already knew the answer
"You already know" he grinned darkly and looked behind me, his eyes suddenly sparkling
I quickly looked back to see two more of them blocking my exit. I sliced the throat of the one I had pinned to the wall and let his body fall to the ground
The two people were aleardy at me. One a woman and one a man. They sliced down to me as much as I dodged, left and right we went like a dance. They were fast, but I had magic
The woman went for my throat but I bended backwards and kicked the dagger to the ground. Quickly I blocke dthe next punch and ran towards the weapon, my knees slidibg accross the floor
I picked it up and trew it behind me before even looking, giving the man no time to dodge as it pierced him right in the chest. The woman roared and hitted me in the middle, sending my body flying backwards
I hit the ground with a loud thud and went to my side as warm blood spilled from my back. When had I gotten pierced in the back?
I jumped up to my feet, trying to regain my balance. She went to punc for my head but I created a wall between us, and instead she got trows back a little. I smirked and dropped the wall, spun and kicked her in the chest. She flew backwards and her back hitted the dumpster
I felt steel press to my throat and stopped mid step. It was just enough to draw a line of blood
"Don't move" a man hissed from behind me
The red headed woman was unconcious as she layed limp. I swallowed trough the mental and nodeed as much as I could. I was yanked backwards and to the dark streets again
I looked around, trying to figure out something. My body was exausted from all the running I had, from not eating or drinking or even moving for months and now suddenly I could fight again. I wasn't at my full strench yet
We entered another ally and my back hit the stone wall, the dagger going sloser to my throat
"Well well if this isn't the dear Hela"
