Pt. IX
Whilst his wife was taken away to have the soldiers do whatever his worst imaginations could conjure up, David and his father wandered through the massive warehouse in search for the item the Germans were looking for. Said Germans laughed mockingly at the two men who were at the receiving end of all the guns pointed at them when Travis requested bullets or gunpowder. They didn't comprehend the necessity of acquiring clues to locating their desire.
The proof Travis explained in as simple English as he could translate to their simple minds left them speechless when the body housing the senior intelligence delivered them to Johnson Jon-Johnson's prize. He barked orders in their dialect whilst one German soldier watched David and his father at the same time many soldiers gathered around a crate they'd busted open in order to expose the item with a great electromagnetic pull.
Half a dozen flashlights shone at the contents cut open with a knife and some gloves. The soldiers holding the flashlights had to hold the item itself or their wrists in order to prevent their tools from slipping out of their grip onto the strange magnetic object that reeked with a foreign smell. Johnson himself had to restrain his revolver from slipping out of its holster whilst the crate was secured by the soldiers under Johnson's command.
With everybody's attention on the crate, Travis attacked the soldier that was supposed to watch them by slamming the barrel of his own weapon at his face before taking back his weapon whilst tossing his son his revolver. Travis didn't yet account the fact that David hadn't pulled back on the hammer of his gun when it was pointed at the enemy until he heard the hammer cock when it was right next to his ear.
Travis' jaw clenched, his nostrils flared as he didn't dare look his son in the eye. "Why, son?"
"Sorry dad. They gave me no other choice: it was you or the kids. And I cannot, under any circumstances, let any harm befall my family." David replied with remorse.
"Sieht so aus, als ob du heutzutage niemandem vertrauen kannst. Looks like you can't trust anyone these days." One German soldier commented aloud.
Infuriated by his predicament, Travis then surrendered the rifle by tossing it at the feet of the people in front of him. By doing so, the gun that was previously triggered as soon as he took action against the Germans fired a bullet from the barrel which embedded into the foot of one soldier, which in turn caused the necessary distraction for him to begin his escape.
"GIT AFTER HIM YOU FLAMIN' COCKROACHES AND KILL THAT SON OF A BITCH!" Johnson screamed at the top of his lungs.
Whilst the soldiers under his command scrambled to pursue Travis, Travis began to climb the stacks of boxes until he was at the very top and leapt across. By doing so, Travis leapt onto a ceiling light and swung on that with the intention of diving onto the truck Johnson had boarded along with the crate with the mysterious electromagnetic object, only for said ceiling light to snap at the chain.
Travis yelped when he descended onto the front of the pursuing car which left two soldiers dazed by the sudden impact. Thanks to being transferred into the youth of his host, Travis was able to make exceptional progress since the young body allowed him to do everything like he used to back in the day. By doing so, he kicked the two soldiers out of the truck and commandeered it for himself to pursue Johnson.
By accelerating and then ramming into the car in front, Travis leapt over onto the tray, climbing over the case of the German's interest and jumped into the passenger seat with Johnson whom he wrestled with. He managed to overpower him and pushed him out before ramming the vehicle through a wall of boxes that he burst through, granting him access to a new path.
Suddenly, two separate vehicles surrounded Travis where he found himself in quite the predicament. Fortunately, he found an opening. By climbing the seat, he leapt up and caught another ceiling light that allowed him to fly over the car crash, touching the ground with his feet first before following up with a forward roll. Hearing the rushing footsteps of the German soldiers on his tail, Travis sprinted along when suddenly he was tackled by Johnson.
The two landed in a different room onto a skylight which cracked beneath them. They fell through into an experimental room where they really battled it out between each other. As a result, they unintentionally triggered a device to activate just as Lara stormed into the room. The sight of the large engine heating up startled her to dive for the ground just as soon as a group of German soldiers accompanied by David showed up.
Not only by the indication that his wife laid on the ground well out of reach of the engine about to blow, David knew that it wasn't at all a pleasant sight, especially when once the engine blew fire at the Germans who failed to take cover in time. Therefore they were burnt alive while David and Lara managed to survive at the same time Travis and Johnson were blasted out of a very long tunnel, taking them into the open desert.
Travis was able to hide in time when a small German patrol showed up to collect their boss. From there, Travis found himself wandering through the desert at sunset. Back at the army base, Lara and David were reunited only very briefly by the time German reinforcements approached the lab they were in, thus separating the husband from his wife.
The sight of David being accepted by the German soldiers shocked Lara. David gestured for her to flee whilst the solders were still distracted with him. The inner conflict made her question whether his actions were filled with good intentions or if he was too naïve to believe that she and her children would live to see another day.
