Pt. IV
Provided that the trip to the Philippines was near a day's flight, it gave Jessica and David time to themselves as they hired a small plane to get them across, provided they were given extra coin to keep their mouths shut to keep them from giving them away to the dangerous cartel members pursuing them after their escape. Unbeknownst to them, they had practically walked straight into the hands of the cartel themselves - the pilots who were pre-paid for.
Being trapped in the backseat of the plane with caged chickens, ducks and sheep didn't make it easier for David to sleep. The incessant ruckus being caused made him irascible, whereas Jessica somehow took no regard to it and dozed off. David eventually managed to fall asleep but after an hour and a half.
He dreamt about the good times of his marriage and the overall cheeriness and closeness of his wife. Unfortunately, it was good while it lasted before David was rudely woken up by the sound of Jessica screaming at him to get her voice over the engines. He looked at her curiously when suddenly her arm pointed in the direction of the cockpit.
Dread filled them upon realising that there were no pilots keeping the plane flying. In haste, David rushed to the pilot seat and manned the plane but found that the wheel was jammed. Fearing for their lives, David scrambled to find a parachute when Jessica ushered him to jump on a life raft as their only means of escaping alive, possibly uninjured.
By some miraculous encounter, the pair were spared from falling to their deaths, but instead were put to fighting their way down a steep mountain which took them to rapids. The journey was treacherous and exhilarating as they rode through the river until they settled away form the rapids, driving along aimlessly, tired from the flight as well as being exhausted from nearly falling off the life raft and drowning or hitting their head on rocks.
"Where... where are we?" Jessica panted as she rinsed water out of her hair.
"Well, we're somewhere in the Philippines. My guess... just outside Manila - San Miguel, at the base of Mount Makiling." David answered as he rubbed his chin. "But we need to head to the other side of the mountain to Batong Malake. That'll be at least a day and a half's trip if we're going to find that lost gold. Do you speak Tagalog?"
Jessica's expression dropped as if she had been caught by her teacher doing something she shouldn't. She shook her head, her blonde hair became untidier when David gave a comforting smile and assured her that he would get them some transportation and proper shelter. Being close to a nearby road, David assisted an exhausted Jessica to get to the nearest town for accommodation.
Never before had David been to the Philippines, and yet for such an occasion, he so happened to pick up on the Filipino language. Those who took them in were quite generous in providing David and Jessica food and shelter as well as the means of travelling to Baton Malake. Seeing as how it would take over a day's walk to get there, by transportation, it would take a mere two hours.
Pensively, David idled while Jessica performed her own personal duties - secretive things David unknowingly allowed her to carry out. Unbeknownst to them, their quarry with the cartel brought about a bounty on their heads. Reliable contacts were issued the warrant on David and Jessica to bring them in - through commencing the thrill of the hunt, the race to Baton Malake sparked a cost between David's dignity and his marriage and Jessica's mission.
David had reunited with a dear old friend of his, the two conversed openly within the bar of the hotel they were accommodated to when danger sparked conflict, conflict started a panic, and panic caused mass confusion and desperation. Three men stormed towards David and Jessica, his friend already distracted a fourth. Their attackers were armed with machetes and with a crazed look about them as they assaulted the two targets.
David danced around with the armed men until he was able to push them aside and ordered her to leave without him so that she could get out of harm's way. Being unsuccessful in preventing harm from befalling her, David drew his revolver and went guns ablazing in pursuit of his companion.
A man had stowed the blonde in the back of a cart and rode off in haste, the distance created expanded as David sweated profusely over failing to rescue his friend. Therefore, he found a motorcycle attached to a passenger box and accelerated to top speed, swerving around cars and motorcyclists. People honked and cursed at the erratic drivers, all the while the pursuit that occurred drew the attention of the authorities.
When David became aware of his pursuers, he throttled the motorbike and took an elevated route in pursuing the people who captured Jessica. Going off road, David drew and reloaded his gun upon reaching a long stretch of road and began to open fire. The authorities returned fire mistakenly, believing that David had the ill intent of bringing them harm when he actually hoped to eliminate the driver of the cart.
"SHIT!" David cursed aloud.
The chase went on for a good three-quarters of an hour before they came towards the location David and Jessica had destined to reach. Only there did David hope to prove his last bullet worthy by an accidental misfire which popped the front wheel of the bike in front. As a result, the pursuit quickly came to an end. David closed in on his target and prepared to chase his friend's kidnapper on foot. Fortunately, Jessica was conscious to retreat to David, allowing the last mercenary escape.
"Are you alright?" David asked concerningly without showing any intimacy.
Jessica nodded her head. "Yeah... Are you hurt?"
"I'm fine. Look. We're near Batong Malake. Just half a click North and we should be in the general area in the bay of where the treasure should be."
To cover the half a click, they got on the bike David used and rode off to claim the lost treasure of Yamatashi's Gold. With their fortune just within their grasp, David and Jessica scoured the bay for clues of some sort with what resources David could use to help them find their fortune.
