Chapter: 3 Strange encounter

L pov:

I stared at the picture of a child on the screen. I then looked down at the letter in my hands.

To any normal investigator, it would seem to be friendly advice.

No.

This is clearly a challenge for a game. The Anagram was the first clue that Y devised as to setting this game.

The disk's password was file, an anagram for Life.

There was a file called stressed. With an additional message with in.

Stressed backwards is.. desserts.

There is a Cafe called Desserts.

I will have to check to see if this is a viable lead to solve this game... however, first I must announce my excepting of her challenge.

"Charlie" pov:

*two days after*

I looked at the Television in shock.

A code.

L excepted my game...

But... why is it on the wiggle's...?

Then again all other shows are cancelled today... he definitely planned this.

Oh well, I suppose that I should place that clue in Deserts.

I arrived at the cafe. I walked to the front desk, "hay, miss, could I please order a juice?" I asked.

The teenage girl with ice blue hair highlights looked down at me and raised an eyebrow.

"Sure, that'll be $3.80" she said.

I then spotted a lemon cheese cake... laminten... tarts...

"Can I also have, that" *I pointed to the lemon cheese cake* "that" *the laminten* "and all of those..." *the tarts*

"Okay, but are you sure you can afford it?" She asked amused.

"Yes, the laminten is $4.00 cheese cake $4.50, and there are twenty tarts that come at $0.50 a piece, add my juice and it should come to a total of... $22.30, I have $25 from saving!" I smiled lightly.

She blinked and brought out a calculator. After a about three minutes, she looked to me. "Well all be.. your right squirt. Your about the same age as my little brother would be... but the parents abandoned him at birth..." She frowned.

She sighed. "One day, I'm gonna save enough money and higher a private detective to help me find him." She shared.

I smiled at her. "That's a nice dream..." I mumbled.

I paid her the money and grabbed the bag before sitting down in booth two, I place my clue carefully while wearing plastic gloves, an envelop in between the table top and the metal attached, as I had written the number "two" in my letter.

This letter tells L about what my game is. The rules. And the consequences. It's not life or death, just a game between detectives, on who can solve a certain puzzle first..

I decided to eat my laminten and cheese cake there so as not to arouse suspicion. Then as I started to drink my juice someone slipped into the other end of the booth.

I looked up from my cheese cake and juice.

A young man sitting in a crouched position... between the ages of maybe 17-23, he has raven black messy hair and dark circles around his eyes.

"Hello." He greeted tonelessly.

"Good evening.." I greeted back.

"What is a child like you, doing out and about, with out supervision..?" He asked with out emotion and a calculating look in his wide dark blank eyes as he chewed on his thumb.

"Getting juice, but then I spotted the sweets and the rep of this place is said to be the best hand made cheese cake in all of Perth... I just couldn't resist." I gave him my 'creepy' smile as Reilee called it.

"Yes, I too heard that and came to verify it." The human frog panda guy said never blinking. He then smiled.

I nodded. "Right... well enjoy your..." I looked in front of him to see a large slice of strawberry short cake.. "strawberry short cake! I've got to bring these tarts to Reilee before she kills me for being late home... again..." I laughed awkwardly.

"Well," I raised my hand in parting, "good day, maybe we shall meet again!" I ran out the place and frowned as I looked up at the sky.

He reminded me of myself... that analytical look in his eyes... I have no doubt we will cross paths again... at this point in time, his chances of being a detective are 42%, his chances of being one of the world's top 3, 8.14% and his chances of being L himself are at a 2.83%.

Yet, I get the feeling I might just be right in my estimation of him.

So I continued on home to Reilee.

L pov:

*when he entered the cafe*

I looked at the worker. "Hello, I would like to have some strawberry short cake..." I told her.

"Sure, that'll be $6.90." I gave her the amount and walked to booth two to see if I could find the clue.

I then saw that little girl from the photo, only her hair was now only chin length.

She was drinking a juice box while sitting criss cross. She looked down at her cheese cake and stabbed it with the cake fork.

I sat down across from her. She looked up from her Cheese cake and locked eyes with me.

She studied me for a moment.

I decided then would be a good time to say something. "Hello." I greeted Tonelessly.

"Good evening." She greeted back with a blank look, wether she was aware of it or not is not yet clear.

"What is a child like you, doing out and about, with out supervision." I stated more than asked. As I was deep in thought.

"Getting juice, but then I spotted the sweets and the rep of this place is said to be the best hand made cheese cake in all of Perth. I just couldn't resist." She said almost sounding board, though there was no hiding the air of joy around her. She then gave me a smile that only a few could pull off.

"Yes, I too heard that and came to verify it." I mirrored her smile with my own.

"Right... well enjoy your, strawberry short cake!" She slightly raised her voice, "I've got to bring these tarts to Reilee before she kills me for being late home.. again..." She said thoughtfully.

"Well," she raised her hand in a lazy wave, "good day, maybe we shall meet again!" She ran out, "but of course... Good bye for now... Y." I mumbled with a smile.
