Light's POV –

Yellow Box Warehouse

Near pulls off his mask, and the two people beside him copy.

Standing there are two people I thought were dead.

Mello and Benihime.

How?!

Takada said that was her name! She said she killed Mello! That bitch lied! That, or I really did kill them but they brought each other back!

Let's just hope that when Mikami kills them all, they'll just die and they won't come back because of Benihime's stupid powers.

I will win this. I won't lose. I can't lose.

I thought if I took her out, she wouldn't be able to bring any more people back.

Why can't I kill her?! I killed L!

She'll be dead soon. I can't wait to see her cold, lifeless body on the ground along with Near, Mello's and everyone else's.

Soon I'll be God of the new world.

Epilogue

Benihime's POV

"I see you won." Ari says, I turn to face her and ignore the look Mello is probably giving me right now. He can't hear her, but from his perspective it looks like I'm going mad.

"Yes. There's a quick question I'd like to ask though." I begin. "I consumed a piece of the Life Note before I died, is that why I was brought back?"

Ari nods, her golden hair swishing from the movement. She gives me a small smile. "Yes. I withheld that rule from you so you would discover if for yourself. Otherwise you could have used it for selfish reasons. You swallowed a piece to protect his name, so no one else could find it. That's what the rule was intended for, you'd be rewarded for going the extra length to keep someone safe. So when your name was written down in the Death Note, the Life Note acted as if your name had been written down in your book and reversed the power of the Death Note. You have forty hours of immunity to death once it has been consumed and if you die during that time, it takes forty minutes to work."

I nod in reply. "Thank you for giving me the Life Note, I wasn't grateful before but now I've used it to save those I love from the Death Note, I can finally fully appreciate the Life Note's powers and capabilities. While I couldn't save my brother, at least I saved Mello and my parents."

"I'll have to take the Life Note back, I hope you understand." Ari says sadly, her smile falls from her face. I nod.

"Is there any way I can keep my memories? I'd like to remember what happened." I ask politely. Ari nods and smiles.

"Of course, if that is what you wish. You may make another request, if you want. Since you did save so many people from the Death Note and you went to extreme measures to protect those you love." Ari replies. A wide grin stretches across my face.

"Is there any way you can bring my brother back?" I ask hesitantly. "I never had the opportunity to talk to him as my brother, I only spoke to him as another classmate."

"So what happened?" Mello asks as we begin our walk home. Matt missed an epic battle, I can tell Mello is excited to tell him everything that happened.

"Ari just explained that consuming a piece from the Life Note keeps you alive, and why I was never informed about it. Also, I am allowed to keep my memories of the Life Note." I tell him. He gives my hand a squeeze. We continue to walk home in silence. The day is bitter, can't really expect more for January though.

"I'm just so relieved that this whole Kira thing is over. I'm annoyed that I couldn't get to Kira before Near, but he wouldn't have won without me, so I'll take that." Mello says suddenly, breaking the silence between us.

"Same. Maybe you two can continue to be L's successors together. I'm sure you two would make an unbeatable team." I reply. I quickly glance at him and smile when I catch his gaze.

"Yeah. We're going to talk to him tomorrow and discuss what we're all going to do, right? Since we all no longer have a job, now that Kira is dead." I nod and look up at the sky.

"So after we've spoken to Near, do you want to meet my parents?"

"Sure." Mello replies, his voice hesitant.

"They won't bite, they're nice. I promise!" I say and nudge his arm with my elbow. "Wait a sec." We stop walking and face each other. I lean up and press a quick kiss to his lips. I then move my lips to his ear before whispering "my real name is Crimson Princess. I prefer Benihime, though."

Dinner with my parents went rather well, it was quite a nice end to the day. Near and Mello have agreed to take over the role of L together, which is quite shocking since I never thought I'd see the two working together.

I've also agreed to be L's personal hacker, working behind the name 'C'.

Currently, I'm sitting in front of my brother's grave. Yesterday Mello and I arrived in England to visit Wammy's and the children there. I thought it would be nice for Mello to return to the place where he grew up.

"Brother, we caught Kira. He's dead. The Shinigami killed him. I'd say he died a rather pathetic death. Although, I admire his will to fight until the very end, even if he did end up begging for the Shinigami to save him. You were right all along, Light Yagami was Kira. I'm glad he was caught. If it wasn't for Mello, we would have all died. I nearly died myself, I don't know who killed me but I have a feeling it has something to do with Takada. Luckily the Life Note saved me, otherwise I would have joined you wherever you are. I'm not sure you would have appreciated seeing me again so soon." I take a deep breath. I offer a weak smile to the gravestone with my brother's name engraved on it. "I also have something to confess. I'm in love with Mello, I hope you don't mind. Not that I think you would, it's just he's your successor. Anyway, I'll see you again soon. I should really get back to him, he's taking me out for dinner." I look at the grave once more, before turning around and walking to where Mello is sat.

"Are you ready?" He asks and I nod.

"Thank you for waiting for me." I thank him. I give him a smile. "I'm glad I got to talk to L for a little bit."

I'd say the dinner went very well, surprisingly Mello proposed at the end. I wasn't expecting it at all, but Mello's reasoning behind it is that he doesn't want to lose me to anyone else.

Shortly after we arrived back in Japan, news of Misa Amane's death was reported. No one exactly knows why she died, but people suspect suicide. She had fallen from a building. People say it's unlikely that it's murder, and rather suicide due to the death of her fiancé, Light Yagami, who died in accident not that long ago.

The following April, Mello and I got married. It was an unforgettable occasion, everyone was there, including Near.

Two months after that, I began to write my first manga series called 'The New God'. It was published in a weekly magazine. It was a huge hit all over the world, and has been adapted into an anime series of the same name. It was somehow a lot more popular than the top series: 'Menma' – a series about a boy who's a ninja with a 9 headed beast inside of him, 'Lizardblock Z' – a series I have yet to see, and a series called 'Detergent' – something people are still trying to figure out the reasoning behind the name, but it's actually about Soul Reapers rather than people cleaning their clothes.

'The New God' told a story about a boy who picks up a Death Note and tries to change the world with it, only to be stopped by a girl who picks up a Life Note, something the reverses the Death Note's powers. Luckily most people think it's fiction, which I'm grateful for.

Sometime during the publication of my manga series, Matt finally gets married to his girlfriend.

Shortly after the series has ended, I find out that I'm pregnant. The baby is a boy, and after spending a lot of time debating on names, we decide to name him Yuki L Keehl. Two years after that, I find out I'm pregnant again, and this time it's a girl who we name Kisa Kyoko Keehl.

I'd say life has turned out pretty perfectly.

Now here I am, at the age of 32, exactly ten years after the end of Kira, receiving a phone call from Near about a new murder case.

"I need you and Mello to fly out to LA. There has been a report of deaths, all of which have been the result of a heart attack." Near reports in his usual tone.

"Can Mello fly out on his own? Unless you know the case won't last longer than a week. I can't leave Yuki and Kisa with my parents for too long, I'll miss them too much."

"Fine, but as long as you'll fly out should things get really complicated."

Near hangs up and I go to tell Mello of the news. Not exactly happy that it's all the way in LA. Sometimes if we're lucky we can solve the case in Japan, that way I can still work and look after my family.

I kiss Mello goodbye before he leaves to get on the plane. "You'll be safe, won't you?"

"Yeah," Mello smiles at me. "I promise." He leans down to Kisa and Yuki, who are both looking rather sad that their father is leaving for work for an indefinite amount of time. He ruffles Yuki's black hair and Kisa's blonde hair. Yuki scowls at his father with his blue eyes, while Kisa's black eyes water as she fights back her tears.

"He'll be back soon," I say to them. "Don't you worry."

Mello turns to me. "I love you." I grin as I say the words.

He grins back before saying "I love you too."

Today's question: so what did you think of this chapter and this whole story? 

I'm so sad that this has come to an end, and I'd love to continue writing it but every story must come to an end. 

When I started writing this, my depression was really bad, so I had to force myself to update. For some odd reason I decided to update everyday, and since then I felt my depression gradually become easier to live with. It's still there and it hits me the hardest when I wake up in the morning, but when I remembered that I had this to write and how happy it made me, the day stopped feeling so bad and I would feel a lot happier. All I can say is thank you so much. Without you reading, commenting and voting I wouldn't have had the motivation to continue writing this. Thank you so much :3

I will be writing a new Death Note fanfiction :3 the idea just popped into my head and I'm quite excited to start writing it. It will be posted on Tuesday and it's going to be called 'God of the New World'. It's going to be set in a world where Light won against Near, and I'm still deciding whether to have two main characters, one pro-Kira and the other anti-Kira. I have a rough storyline for one character already, I'm just not sure about the other at the moment. I hope you'll all consider reading it :3

P.S - I nearly brought L back. So I decided to not confirm whether Ari grants Benihime's wish. That is entirely up to you to decide. Originally I had Ari say she could, and then I changed it to say she couldn't. I can't decide, I want to bring him back but then I feel like it would spoil the ending. Idk XD
