RW Chapter Thirty

A/N: This is a really long chapter (it has taken me over five hours to write and is almost 7k words long XD I decided to make it super long since I've had all day to write it and it's the second to last chapter. Tomorrow I'll be posting the epilogue :3

THANK YOU FOR 50K READS!!!! :D I'll be posting the special chapter later today :3

I have used some lines from Volume 12. Just so I get all the facts correct.

Chapter Thirty

Part One

Mello's POV

She falls and I catch her in my arms, pulling her to me. She's so still. Her eyes are shut and her face is torn between pain and peace.

Shock freezes me to the spot.

Slowly, reality sinks in.

Benihime's dead.

"Shit!" I curse. I grit my teeth and clutch her closer to me. No, she can't be dead. There's no way. She just passed out from stress, that's it.

I didn't fail at protecting her.

I did. I failed her.

She's dead.

Kira got her.

Light's POV

I got her. Finally. Thanks to Takada for seeing her name and then telling me over the phone. I never would have guessed that Benihime was hanging around Mello, I thought she was with Near. Not that I'm complaining, I finally killed her after years of trying to get her name.

Crimson Princess Kimura. A ridiculous name. I feel stupid now for not thinking that. It's just the English translation for Benihime.

I supress a laugh.

I'm so close to becoming God. My new world is nearly ready.

Mello's gone, so is Benihime. Now, I just have to deal with Near and the Task Force.

This battle is nearly over.

***

Benihime's POV

Am I alive?

No I can't be.

I remember falling... and then nothing.

Until now.

I feel my chest move as I take a deep breath.

I'm alive.

How?

No one knows my name except for my parents and me.

Did Mello contact them?

No. He wouldn't be able to. Hospital visiting hours are over.

Unless it's morning.

I feel like I'm drifting. I'm warm though. As if someone's carrying me. Is it Mello?

"Mello?" I croak out. I don't know if I'm imagining things.

What if this is death though? What if I really died and I'm passing on to the afterlife? What's happening?

I lean into the warmth, the feeling rather pleasant as the other half of my body is bitterly cold.

Things suddenly start to become clearer.

I hear the sound of rustling trees. In the distance I can hear cars.

I can hear footsteps.

I try to get my eyes to open.

I need to know what's going on.

What about Matt? He's dead.

Unless Mello revived him too.

"Mello?" I try again. My voice is hoarse, like I'm suffering from a bad cold.

I open my eyes.

It's dark.

How long has it been since I died? Did I actually die?

Holding me is Mello. He's carrying me in his arms.

He looks down at me, his face full of relief.

"I'm glad you're awake." He says quietly. "You were dead for a good forty minutes. Then you started breathing and moving."

So I really did die.

Am I alive because of the Life Note?

I didn't write my own name down. All I did was write Mello's name down and then swallow the piece of paper...

Consuming the Life Note must save you from death. That has to be it! There's no other way!

"Mello, did you write my name down?" I ask him. I have to know. I'm fairly certain my Life Note is back in the apartment.

"No. I don't know your name, remember?" He replies.

"I swallowed the piece of Life Note that had your name on it. I think that's what saved me." I inform him. He looks down at me with his eyebrows raised.

"Are you sure that's what brought you back?" Mello asks me, he stops walking for some unknown reason. I nod my head.

"I'm certain." I say weakly. "I just need to ask Ari."

"Ari?" Mello questions. Of course he doesn't know who she is.

"The God of Life tied to my Life Note. Like how a Shinigami follows the owner of the Death Note." I summarise for him. "Can I walk?" I finally ask. Not that I don't like being in his arms, of course I do. Who wouldn't? Being carried is pretty awesome. I just feel so useless though, I want to prove I'm strong enough to stand on my own.

Mello shakes his head. "You just died."

"So? You did too and you're walking fine." I pout and he sighs. He finally gives in and places me on my feet carefully.

"Be careful." He warns and I nod.

"Of course. Now, back to my apartment? You need to tell me Matt's name so I can bring him back. I feel stupid for not bringing more of the Life Note with me."

"It's a bit too far away... we could go back to collect my motorbike but Takada is there. She'll probably try to kill us again if we go back. I think there might be a hotel nearby, we should stay there for the night." He replies. I raise my eyebrow.

"Where are we exactly?" I ask as we continue walking.

"A good hour walk from Tokyo." He replies and I sigh.

"Seriously? Why couldn't you have dragged Takada somewhere near home? Then we wouldn't have long to walk."

"Matt was supposed to pick us up. But since you swallowed a perfectly good piece of Life Note we can't exactly bring him back until we get home." He retorts and I pout.

"Sorry. You're forgetting that the piece I swallowed may have brought me back!" I snap. I cross my arms and frown at him.

He sighs. "What's done is done. Let's just stay at a hotel and go home tomorrow. It's late."

"No way! If we're going near a place that has hotels, then we can get a taxi home. I refuse to spend money on a room when I have a perfectly good bed back home!" I argue. I steal a look at him to see he's doing the same. Our eyes lock before I look away as my cheeks heat up.

"Fine." He gives in and I grin. I look at him again to see he's looking at me. I don't look away despite my face resembling a tomato. We stop walking and face each other. I let my arms fall to my sides. "Are you tired?" He asks and I shake my head.

"No, let's just keep walking." We continue walking until we reach a road. We shouldn't have too long left to walk.

I should confess how I feel. He may not feel the same, but after nearly losing him earlier – I don't think I can put off confessing any longer.

I'm fairly certain I'm in love with the arrogant blonde next to me.

***

"See? Getting to my apartment wasn't too bad at all! There's no need to throw money at a hotel when this place is just as good!" I say happily when we enter my apartment. It must be almost midnight now. I dig my Life Note out of the drawer I normally keep it in and pass it to Mello. I pass him a pen and watch as he writes down his friend's name. When satisfied, he passes the pen and book back to me and I hide it back in the drawer.

"Why couldn't you have just lived in Tokyo? Why outside of the Kanto region instead?" Mello complains for the tenth time that night.

I turn to face him. "Are you forgetting that I moved to this area after Light nearly found out my name and killed me? I've lived here ever since L died." I say, a hint of sadness lacing my voice at the mention of my brother. "It hasn't been safe to move back. It's not that long of a drive to Tokyo anyway."

"It's an hour, Beni." Mello adds, picking at my choice of words. I shoot him a glare.

"So? That's not that long! You're forgetting we've sat on a plane for eleven and a half hours from LA to here. That's a long journey." I correct him. Mello sighs and shakes his head at me. He looks deeply into my eyes and I freeze. My face heating up as usual.

"You're so annoying sometimes, Beni." He murmurs before capturing my lips with his. He places his hands on my waist and I wrap my arms around his neck. He pulls me closer to him.

I pull away ever so slightly and open my eyes, his blue eyes open and look into mine. "Wait. I need to say something." I say quietly. He nods and looks at me, his eyes full of understanding. "Mello... I love you. I lied when I said I didn't like you."

"I know." He says simply before pulling me in for another kiss. He breaks away briefly. "I love you too."

***

A knock at the door causes my eyes to open. I look at Mello who is sleeping peacefully beside me.

I smile before turning away. I throw my legs over the side of the bed and carefully stand up, trying to not make any noise. I grab my pyjamas that are sat on my dresser and I pull them on.

I walk over to the front door and open it to see Matt there looking as if he's been through hell (he kinda has, to be honest). His hair is messy, which is unusual for him and he has dark circles under his eyes. I grin at him and I pull him into a hug.

"You're okay! What took you so long to get here?" I ask him as I pull away. He looks at me, pleased that I'm okay.

"Well, I woke up and it was late so I slept in my car." He admits. Ah, that explains why he appears so tired. I can't imagine how uncomfortable it is to sleep in a car. He looks around me, probably hoping to see his friend behind me.

"Mello's still asleep, he's fine." I tell him. I step aside from the door frame and let him walk in. When the door is shut, I begin to summarise the events from last night.

When I finish explaining everything that happened, it's Matt's turn to share his story of what happened last night.

"Everything was going as planned, until they pulled out these big guns. I stupidly got out of the car and they shot me. One of their bullets smashed through the screen of my Gameboy." He frowns and pulls out the ruined device from his pocket. He puts it back and continues. "I then woke up, they had just left me there and had taped the whole place up. I think they were too busy trying to catch Mello or something. I would have thought they'd drag my body away or something. I just got back into my car and drove away. They were too shocked to try to chase me and let me escape."

"Damn." I murmur. "Anyway, we're going to Near. I have information I need to share with him. I'll go wake up Mello. You can use the shower first, if you want."

I leave Matt sitting in the living room as I head towards my bedroom. Mello is still buried under the covers and hasn't moved an inch. Matt's so lucky that I'm not a heavy sleeper like he is.

I shake his bare shoulders. "Mello?" One of his eyes open slightly and he groans.

"Go away, Beni." He mumbles, his voice groggy.

"Come on, we have to see Near." I shake his shoulders again. He grabs my arm and yanks me down, I fall into bed and move so I'm facing him.

"I'm not seeing him. Can't we just spend the day here?" Mello replies and shuts his eyes. He rolls onto his back.

"Matt's back. We really should go see Near. I need to tell him about the new Life Note rule."

"Later." Mello mumbles and I realise he wasn't listening to me. I hear the shower turn on.

I roll my eyes. "Mello! Come on!" He doesn't reply. "If you won't leave the bed willingly, then I'll just have to make you." I mutter.

***

"So you think that consuming the piece of the Life Note brings you back, should you die?" Near concludes when I explain everything that happened last night. I nod. "Then we'll have the whole of the SPK consume some of it, if you don't mind. Then should we die, we'll come back."

"It's not instant though, it takes forty minutes according to Mello." I add. Near frowns.

"That's better than nothing. Then we'll know for definite who Kira is. He'll be the remaining member of the Task Force."

"That's true..." my voice trails off. I look around the room, searching for any other ideas. "Light thinks Mello and I are dead, right? We should use that to our advantage. Maybe we should turn up to the big meeting. It'll freak him out so much more."

Part Two

28th January 2010. Approximately 1:30 pm. Location: Yellow Box Warehouse.

The warehouse is cold and it clearly hasn't been used in a while. I can understand why this place was chosen, it's far away from anything.

The tension is high. Near, Mello and I are currently wearing L masks as we face the Task Force. Near is sat down, a little collection of finger puppets surrounding him with Mello and I on either side of him.

Light Yagami, who hasn't really changed that much since I last saw him, is standing in the centre. The Japanese Task Force are positioned either side of him.

"Near it's been nearly half an hour. Nothing has happened." One of the Task Force says, breaking the silence.

"Of course, that's because Kira isn't here." Light snaps in reply.

"Very well, it seems you're all safe. I'll remove my mask then." Near says and takes the mask off. Mello and I copy, removing ours as well. I keep an eye on Light's face, which is now showing a shocked expression. He remains quiet, not commenting on how Mello and I are alive.

"So now you've taken your mask off, what are you going to show us?" One of the Task Force members yells impatiently.

"Matsuda, don't rush him." Another says, responding to the outburst of his colleague.

"I'm sorry," Near apologises. "But you'll just have to wait again."

"Again?!" The members say in disbelief. "What are we waiting for?!"

"For the one who'll solve everything." Near replies simply. I look at him briefly before turning my gaze back to the Task Force. "I assure you that this person will come. So all we have to do is wait. This building is completely sealed. The only way to look inside is to open that door right there. Therefore, this very important person will come through that door, or at least peak through it."

"Who's going to come?"

"This meeting was kept a secret from everyone except those that are here right now."

"That's right. So the person coming is X-Kira, Kira's loyal follower, who learned about this meeting from Kira." Near answers. "Mr Aizawa, you kept an eye on L even after Takada died, right?"

"Yeah," Aizawa – I presume – replies.

"Then X-Kira will come. Kira used Takada to contact X-Kira." Near adds as he holds up three puppets: X-Kira, Takada and Kira. "The night we decided where and when to meet, L met Takada, and Takada passed on the information to X-Kira." My eyes narrow at Light, who has been pretending to be L this whole time. How dare he! "But Mello's kidnapping of Takada was a surprise for both L and myself. With Takada dead, L can no longer use her as a way to contact X-Kira. So he was unable to call his plan off. No, it would be meaningless for him to call everything off. The thought would have never crossed his mind because he did not want to interfere with his plan or mine." Near concludes.

"Why do you assume that L is Kira?" Matsuda shouts at Near.

"Yeah, if a third party is really going to show up here, isn't it more likely that you're the one who planned it all?" Another Task Force member shouts.

"No, because the person we're waiting for is the person currently in charge of carrying out Kira's plans. So obviously, this person will be coming here under Kira's orders and no one else's."

"Wait a minute! If this person is the one doing the killings, are you saying that they'll be bringing the notebook?" Matsuda fires back.

"Yes, this person will bring the notebook for sure. Then, after seeing my face he'll write my name down and kill me." Near says as he continues to play around with the puppets, demonstrating what he is saying.

"So you're going to prove that this person is following Kira's orders by being killed?" Matsuda retorts.

"No, rather by having him try to kill me." Near replies.

"Wait a minute, Near." Aizawa, I presume, cuts in.

"Yes?"

"If X-Kira is going to kill you, then he or she will need to kill everyone in this room." Aizawa says, his eyebrows furrowed in concentration.

"That's right. It would be a perfect victory for Kira, not to mention the reason why Kira agreed to this meeting." Near replies simply, placing all the puppets on the ground. Each of them laying on their side except for Kira's puppet.

"I-I don't get it! What are you talking about? That third party is going to bring the notebook here to kill us?" Matsuda says in disbelief.

"And you're asking us to just stand here and watch?" Another Task Force adds onto Matsuda's words.

"That's right." I say, everyone turns their gaze to me.

"Then you'll be playing right into Kira's hands!" He replies. I shake my head

"We have everything planned out. Don't worry." I reply simply. I turn to face Near, indicating I want him to carry on talking for me. I don't want to reveal too much, I'd hate for Light to chicken out of confessing that he's Kira.

"If you do as we say, we'll win." Near adds. I can see Light starting to look nervous. "So if X-Kira enters through that door, I want you all to let him in. Also, however slightly that door opens, I want you to pretend you didn't notice it."

"Near, you're making it sound like you're Kira. You're the one who proposed the idea to meet here. Now you're asking everyone to have their names written down in the Death Note. It's only natural for us to think that." Aizawa replies. "But, I'll do as you say."

The door cracks open and I resist the urge to look. I shoot a look at Mello and he looks at me.

"He's already here." Near announces.

The tension rises again.

"I can't just watch! If this person is really writing our names down..." Matsuda shouts out as he pulls his gun out of his jacket pocket.

"Don't move!" Gevanni shouts to Matsuda, he and Rester both pull their guns out and points it at the Task Force member.

"Are you kidding me?" Matsuda asks in shock and begins to put his gun away.

"Don't worry. You won't die. Just do as I say and be still." Near says calmly. "Even if our names are written down, we won't die, and Kira's identity will be revealed" Near says.

"How can you be so sure?" Aizawa replies to Near.

"I've tampered with the notebook." Near says confidently. "We managed to get it into our possession, and replaced the pages. The person behind the door, the one who's doing the actual killing, has been filling up one page every day, so I just calculated which page would correspond with today's date and replaced those particular pages." Near explains. "The person writing the names down outside will eventually look inside to see if we have all died. At this point, we'll seize him and the individual whose name isn't written down – who will of course be Kira."

Near withholds the information that we can't die since we swallowed pieces of my Life Note.

Light begins to smirk confidently. "To the one outside, did you write the names down?" He asks.

"Yes I did," the man outside replies. Light's smirk grows.

"That's strange. Why would he reply in earnest when you asked him if he wrote the names down?" Near questions.

"Who knows? Maybe he's honest, or confident? He may even know your plan." Light replies and I supress the urge to punch the smirk off of his face.

"Teru Mikami, why don't you come in here?" Near asks. "Teru Mikami, I know you're the one that's in charge of Kira's killings right now. You've already written the names down. So there's nothing to be afraid of. Please come in, or did Kira not order you to?"

"Teru Mikami? That's right, come inside and stop hiding." Light says. I glare at him.

The door slides open and a man wearing a large black coat with shoulder length black hair steps into the room, a large grin stretched menacingly across his face.

"Your wish is my command, God." He says confidently.

"How many seconds has it been since you wrote the names down?" Light asks him.

"Thirty-five, thirty-six, thirty-seven..." He counts. "Thirty-eight, thirty-nine."

"I win, Near." Light announces proudly.

"Forty!" Mikami says happily.

Several Task Force members stand in shock, except for Matsuda who has his hands on his head like it will stop the powers of the supernatural notebook. Everyone looks scared, except for Near, Light, Mello and myself.

"We're not dead!" Matsuda says in complete shock.

Light's smirk falls from his face.

"I've been telling you that none of us would die." Near says.

"Why won't they die?" Mikami questions as he begins to stare at his notebook, his hand shaking. "G-God, I d-did as you said!"

Light looks so shocked and confused. Yes, Light, you did get beaten by an eighteen-year old boy.

"Rester, Gevanni, get Mikami." Near orders. The obey silently, and restrain a struggling-Mikami.

"G-God!" He splutters, begging Light for help who stands there and stares with wide eyes.

"The notebook." Near says. "Gevanni take it. Let's see for ourselves." The notebook is passed to Near, who takes a look at it before turning it around for everyone else to see.

I look at the page, the following names are written:

Nate River

Crimson Princess Kimura

Mihael Keehl

Anthony Carter

Stephen Loud

Halle Bullook

Kanzo Mogi

Touta Matsuda

Hideki Ide

Shuichi Aizawa

"The first six names are the real names of the SPK. The only name that is missing is Light Yagami. Mikami called you 'God', and did what you told him. This proves it." Near concludes.

Light raises a hand and points at Near before yelling "A trap! This is a trap! Near set this whole thing up to frame me! It's impossible that nobody is dead after having their names written down in the Death Note! It just proves that this is a trap!"

Near remains calm during and after Light's outburst. "But I told you that nobody would die because I replaced the pages." Near says calmly, still holding the Death Note in his hands.

"It... it's impossible! It can't be!" Light splutters. "This is all a setup! I don't know who this man is!"

Aizawa reaches out and gently touches Light's shoulder with his hand. "It's too late. Near wins. A second ago you were saying you had won. That's a confession."

Matsuda falls to his knees. "Light... why?" He says.

Mogi steps forward and walks towards Light with handcuffs in his hand. He goes to place the metal around Light's wrist but he yanks his arm away just in time.

"Stop it!" Light yells and begins to run, before slipping on the ground and falling flat on his face. He pulls himself up and leans against the wall.

"Light Yagami, you've lost." Near says "You claimed your victory a moment ago. To tell you the truth, you might have won and I might have lost. You had Mikami use a fake notebook and had him carry it around in front of us so we'd believe he had the real thing. Things went exactly as you had planned, and we replaced the pages of the fake notebook. However, when I said I replaced the pages of the notebook, I meant the real one as well." Near begins to pull a notebook from underneath his shirt. "This is the real one. Gevanni did it overnight. He replicated the notebook. He used the same pen that Mikami used, copied his handwriting to perfection, and even made a perfect copy of the cover in addition to the pages inside. Since I had already touched the notebook, I have been able to see the Shinigami here from the moment you entered the warehouse. Mr. Shinigami, it's nice to meet you. I'm Near."

He pauses as I presume the Shinigami replies. Near has a short conversation with the Shinigami, asking him about the Death Note's effectiveness if pages have been torn out.

"I bet so many people were deceived because of that." Near turns to Light. "Light Yagami, you are Kira." He concludes. Light begins to look angry and glares at Near. "I owe this because of Mello. I'm sure you understand what I mean by that." Everyone turns to face the blond who grins. Near turns a page in the Death Note "Look at the page, this is the notebook we created but it is exactly like the real one." Near points to the first line. Kiyomi Takada's name is written there.

Light turns to glare at Mikami who looks absolutely terrified.

"That's right, when Mello kidnapped Takada, Mikami took out the real notebook. The one he had hidden in the bank. He then wrote Takada's name down. After Takada's kidnapping was announced on the news, Mikami headed for the bank. Mikami usually went to the bank on the 25th of each month, except for October when he went on the 26th due to the banks being closed on a Sunday. Mikami lives a completely fixed life, but just as Takada was kidnapped he suddenly goes to the bank two days in a row. To be honest, I only thought about the possibility of a notebook being fake after Gevanni told me about this. Come to think of it, we should have suspected when Mikami would use the notebook in public. The fact that we found out about Mikami quickly worked against us. Until then, we were completely fooled by you, Takada and Mikami, and had replaced the pages in the fake notebook. So we would have actually lost if we hadn't found out." Near admits.

"When Mello kidnapped Takada, you were no longer able to get in contact with Mikami, but Mikami still made his move for you. It wasn't difficult for us to sneak into the safe room and crack it. It was an old-fashioned safe at a local bank. Also, since you allowed us to look through Mikami's bag while he was at the gym, we already had made copies of all his keys." Near says.

"That's right. It was easy to get into the safe. Inside it was a notebook, and Takada's name was written in it." Gevanni adds to Near's conclusion.

"Even an idiot would figure out everything from there. We went a step further by having Mikami bring a fake version of the real notebook. It's a lot harder to find out that the notebook has been switched if the whole thing was replaced rather than a part of it. Of course this is due to Gevanni and Rester who had duplicated it in one day, but the biggest thanks goes to Mello who created this situation." Near sums up.

"Mello may have known about it. I told Mello that Near was talking about bringing this to an end with his own hands. After a long silence he just said 'then I guess I'll have to do it'. At first I thought he meant he was going to bring the end to the case before Near. But if Mello hadn't made his move then we would have all died." Halle says, offering her own knowledge.

"The fact that we replaced the pages in the fake notebook, I find it hard to believe that Mello thought that far ahead." Near continues. "But, I'm sure that he was always trying to get ahead of me. That's not all, even if he didn't surpass me or L. He always said he was going to be number one. But I always knew I wouldn't be able to surpass L on my own. It could be that I lack the action and he lacks the calm, and even though we can't surpass L on our own, we can stand together and surpass L. Now, we are facing Kira, whom L couldn't find proof against, the very Kira who L was defeated by. Facing Kira with solid evidence before his very eyes. Let's see you talk your way out of this."

Light cries out and falls to the ground. He begins to shake, and what seems to be laughter is erupting from him. He begins to slowly stand up, and then laughs manically. The sort of laugh that sends shivers down one's spine.

"That's right. I am Kira." He admits after he's finished laughing. He looks at us. "So what now? What are you going to do? Kill me right here? Listen, I'm Kira... and the God of this new world." He announces proudly. "In this world, I am the law, I'm the one maintaining order. That's the truth. I'm justice. This world's only hope. Are you going to kill me? Is that really the right thing to do? Capturing Kira may have been the best thing to do in the past, but now it's obviously evil. The mentality of the world has changed. Are you sure you want to capture Kira just for your own satisfaction? IT's been six years since Kira appeared, since then the crime rate has dropped by seventy percent.

"However, this world is still rotten. There are too many rotten people, so we must get rid of them. Humans have the right to pursue happiness and be happy. But because of a handful of rotten people, that right is easily taken from them. This is no accident. From the moment I got that notebook, no, even before that. The world had fallen as far as it could fall. Humans had rotted so much as they could. It all boils down to those who interfere with people's happiness and those that do not, those who are worthy of living and those who are not.

"Evil only creates evil. If those evil people are allowed to commit sins, then the weak will commit crimes, and even try to justify their actions. The evil... the rotten people... they must die. Justice will be brought on evil people.

"That is all you have to do to change the way people think. They'll start realising what is the right way of living as humans. The right to be happy. That is something that everyone has equal claim to. However, it is not something you get by harming, deceiving or even killing others. To pursue happiness without getting in the way of others and respecting the world is the correct way of how human's should live their lives.

"Once the world changes, so do people change. They become kinder. However, those that still commit sins after that are failures. Someone had to make these changes. From the moment I got hold of that notebook, I knew I had to... no. I knew I was the only one capable of doing it. I knew that killing people was a crime, but it was the only correct way to change this world. One day, people will accept this as being righteous. I had to take the role of Kira. This was a mission that was given to me. I was chosen to change this rotten world and to create a better world, one that is safe and ideal.

"With this Death Note, would anybody else have been able to do this? Would they have come this far? I am the only one who can create a new world, and guide it correctly. Think about it." He finally concludes. Damn. I thought it would never end. He opens his mouth to speak again and I resist the urge to facepalm. Dude, shut up. "What you see before you is Kira and God of this new world!"

Done?

"No." Near says when Light has finished rambling on and on about Kira and his new world. "You are just a murderer." He accuses bitterly. "This notebook here is the worst murder weapon in the history of mankind. If you had been a normal person and used this notebook once out of curiosity you would have been surprised and scared of what had happened. You'd regret what you had done and never use the book again. To speak of extremes, I can actually understand those who would use this notebook for personal use and interests and kill a couple of people; and even then think that they're normal. But you have yielded the power of the notebook and Shinigami and have confused yourself with a God. You're just a crazy mass-murderer. Nothing more, nothing less."

"Near, you're wrong. I'm the icon of justice now." Light retorts. He glares at Near, his eyes full of murderous intent. I bet Near is glad that looks can't kill.

"You may be right. Nobody can tell what is right or wrong, what is righteous and what is evil. Even if there is a God, and I had his teachings before me, I would think it through and decide what is right or wrong myself. I'm no different from you. I believe in what I think is right. You are no God. I feel that the idea of you creating a path for people to follow is neither right nor peaceful. Anybody who claims to be God and kills people from left to right is definitely evil in my opinion." Near replies.

"Near. How can you be sure that both notebooks here are real?" Light suddenly says, switching the subject. "Both sides made a mistake when they believed either notebook to be real, the one Mikami had that was fake and the fake one you had made. Neither sides tested them to see if they were real. The notebooks you have right now, and the notebook that Aizawa brought, are they real?" Light questions. "You could already see Ryuk, so let's say that the notebook you have is real but the notebook that Aizawa has which I had access to, was switched. If I switched it then only I know where it is.

"That's right. If you really want to defeat Kira then you should write my name or Mikami's name down in Aizawa's notebook to see if that notebook is real."

"Light Yagami, I have no plans to kill you." Near admits. "I really don't care if these notebooks are real or not anymore. From the beginning it was my goal to capture Kira. All I want is for everything to become clear and for Kira to be caught. You're as good as arrested now. I'll confiscate the notebook from Aizawa. That is enough for now. I will not announce Kira's arrest or the existence of the notebook to the public. I believe that everybody here can keep a secret. I'll take full responsibility for putting you in a place where nobody can find you until you die."

Light begins to walk away from us, his back turned. He pulls up his arm with his watch on it and a click echoes throughout the warehouse.

"He's got a note hidden on him!" Someone shouts out.

Matsuda, not wasting another second shoots several bullets into Light's arms. The pen Light was using flies from his hand and hits the floor, spinning in a few circles before laying stationary. Light clutches his bleeding arm and turns to face us.

"Matsuda, you idiot!" He bellows. "Who do you think you're shooting?! Damn you! If you're going to shoot then shoot the others! What do you think you're doing?!"

Matsuda begins to shake but continues to keep the gun pointed at Light.

"Matsuda! I thought you were the only person who understood me! Shoot Near, The SPK members, the others!" Light orders.

"Wh-what is it all for? The deputy director Yagami, your father, what did he die for?" Matsuda responds.

"Dad? Why are you talking about him for? People like him always end up losing."

"You drove your father to his death and you're saying that he's a fool!" Matsuda shouts back.

"A society, a world where people like my father will have never been made into fools. He died to create that! I'm telling you to kill the others so that his death wasn't pointless! Can't you understand that?!" Light yells back. He lifts his bleeding hand and presses it to the paper. He's writing our names down in his blood.

"He's using his blood!"

Matsuda screams out as he starts shooting Light, sending several bullets into him to stop him from killing us. "I have to kill him! He's got to die!" Matsuda stands over Light, pointing his gun at his chest.

"Stop, Matsuda! Don't do it!" The others yell out to him. The others grab Matsuda and pull him away from Light, restraining his arms so he can no longer shoot.

"Mikami, kill them! That's your job! You're supposed to kill them!" Light screams at Mikami whose hands are bound with handcuffs.

"You're not God!" Mikami replies. "What the hell is this? You're no God. You're just scum!"

"Since he had that piece in his watch, I doubt he has anymore." Near concludes as Aizawa holds up the piece of the Death Note Light had hidden. "Mogi, Ide, help me arrest Light Yagami."

Said men begin to walk towards the man on the floor.

"Stop it!" Light cries out pathetically. He begins to drag his body away. "Don't come near me! M-Misa?! Where is she? Misa, kill them!"

"Misa Amane is at the hotel right now." Near answers as we silently watch the battle draw to an end.

"Hotel? What is she doing there at a time like this?!" Light begins to panic. "Takada? Where's Takada? Kill them! Write their names down!"

"Kiyomi Takada is dead." Near says.

"Dead?! Somebody... anybody..."

"Near, it's over at last." Rester says to Near.

"Yes." He replies. I move to stand next to Mello and I take his hand. He squeezes mine and I look at him. I offer him a weak smile.

I turn away and look back at Light who's still pathetically laying on the ground.

"Light, it's over. You're just going to bleed to death." Aizawa says to Light who's still struggling.

"Don't come near me!" He orders. "K-kill them! Somebody kill them!" Light looks up and sees the Shinigami, from what I assume. These assumptions are confirmed by Light's next words. "Ryuk! Kill them! You can write their names down! Write it! Hurry!"

Everyone begins to point their guns to the empty, well empty for me, corner of the warehouse.

"Don't worry. If that Shinigami is willing to write our names down when asked, then that's all Kira had to do from the start. So it means that Ryuk does not assist Kira." Near says in an attempt to calm the others down.

"P-please, Ryuk! You're all I have left to rely on! You've got to write their names down! Please!" Light begs.

Everyone begins to shoot at the Shinigami. It must have said something to cause them to think he's a threat.

Light begins to laugh manically again. "Sucks to be you, Near! The only choice you had was to kill me straight away! But now that Ryuk's decided to write your names down, nobody can stop him! It's too late! You're all going to die!" Light brags. The smile suddenly drops from his face. "Ryuk, you...stop it! I'm going to die! I'm going to die! No... no! I don't want to die! Damn it!" Light begins to grab at the air. "No! I don't want to go to prison! I don't want to die! Do something!" Light suddenly falls backwards, his movements stopping.

Kira is finally dead.

A/N: Vote and comment!

Today's question: what are your thoughts on the end? Were you expecting the unknown rule of the Life Note?

I enjoyed writing this chapter so much XD I'm really sad that I have two more to write (the epilogue and the special chapter). I almost decided to just make this a regular 1k-1.5k words chapter but I'd rather not drag out the ending for too many days, since I may stop updating due to me not wanting to finish it.

The special chapter will be up in a few chapters, and the epilogue will be posted tomorrow :3

Thank you so much for reading this fanfiction :3
