BITE ME

{Rival Assassins AU}

For once, Mara would have loved to have a normal evening with her cats, without being called to work in the middle of dinner. But money was required to take care of them and herself and earning that money required going in to work at odd times. But this time... This time was a little different from the rest.

And sitting on the roof, looking at her assignment, Mara wasn't sure she was coming back from this one alive. She was to kill the best assassin (besides herself) in the business.

You.

{Scenario 1}

Unbeknownst to the Employer, Mara had a very unprofessional relationship with her rival, causing things to be complicated whenever they were sent after the each other. What usually ensued was a long chase around the city, jumping rooftops and scaling buildings until they got to a particular apartment. In the morning, they'd untangle themselves from the bedsheets, give each other a knowing look, and part ways until the next time.

But tonight wouldn't be filled with an exhilarating chase. Tonight, Mara had to show results.

Silent as a shadow, she slipped into the bedroom through the window, careful not to disturb the resident. Lightly making her way to the bed, she raised a gun, leveling it with their head. Pull the trigger, that's all she had to do was pull the trigger.

But... She couldn't.

So she set the gun down, sat on the edge of the bed and stroked their hair softly until they woke, but even when they did she said nothing.

[Scenario 2]

Mara had been playing this cat and mouse game with her rival for far too long. Every night it seemed, they would run each other down and eventually lose the pursuer. But all of that was done spur of the moment, it was never planned, no one ever took a shot. To find this assassin and actually put them down? To say Mara had her work cut out for her was an understatement.

She searched the central areas of the city first, listening in on police lines and emergency calls, but there was an unsettling silence there. Her rival, perhaps, had taken the night off, but that was simply heresy. The assassin then looked at the surrounding areas but couldn't clue in as to where her assignment may be lurking.

But she didn't have to wonder long as footsteps approached on the concrete rooftop directly behind her.

[You?]
