Kokonoe: Born to a humble farmer couple, Edward James Kenway did not wish to live that way all his life, becoming a troublemaker in his childhood. Upon reaching seventeen years of age, Edward met a nobleman's daughter, Caroline Scott, and despite the difference in their social statuses they got together and married. However, due to Edward's life as a farmer and his inability to give his wife a privileged life, misery after misery plagued him, being considered blight by Caroline's father. Thanks to his misfortunes, Edward swore to make a fortune by joining the British privateers, but the country soon found no use for these seafarers, leaving Kenway jobless. Thus, lured by the promise of fame and fortune, Edward Kenway turned to piracy.

Junko: I mean, with a man like Adéwalé as your first mate, you're bound to be a great pirate right? Either way, good old Kennway would learn that his adventures were far more than just dangerous quests across land and sea, but that they...and he... are soon to be part of a grander scheme involving the age-old conflict of the Templars and their sworn enemies, the Assassins...

Ann: But whether you consider Edward an assassin or just a plain old criminal doesn't matter. Either way, he's a pretty good pirate.

Kokonoe: Especially on board his ship, the Jackdaw.

Kokonoe: A Brig and Edward's main vessel. It was originally a ship of the Spanish Treasure Fleet named the El Dorado before Edward stole the ship and renamed her.

Junko: She's got 46 broadside cannons, with 23 on each side of the ship! 4 front chase cannons on her bow, 2 swivel guns on her stern for precision damage, and an iron-plated naval ram on her bow to severely damage enemy ships by ramming into them!

Ann: The ship holds 160 fire barrels, and can drop four at a time to shake off pursuing ships and reveal their weak points when the barrels explode on them. It can also unleash 40 volleys of heavy shots to burn the hulls of larger ships and deal extra damage at close range. Not only that, but it holds two mortar cannons that have a total of 20 rounds, for devastating long-range damage.

Kokonoe: This ship can hold a crew of 40 men and has an iron-plated hull capable of withstanding several broadside volleys from Men O' War, which typically carry 56 cannons on each broadside.

Junko: With the proper strategy applied, the Jackdaw can and has defeated multiple types of ships, including Men O' Wars, which are generally superior to Brigs like this one. But enough about the ship. Let's talk more about Captain Edward, shall we?

Kokonoe: Edward is highly ambitious and obsessed with fame and fortune. He's a fearsome captain, capable of sailing through the harshest of storms, and has taken down all sorts of legendary ships over the years. He's also a skilled hunter, having single-handedly killed dangerous animals like jaguars, crocodiles, sharks, and whales.

Ann: He easily overpowered Duncan Walpole, a Master Assassin-turned-Templar, all while being injured from a blast that destroyed his old ship. He survived the explosion that destroyed the Jacobite and threw him off that ship, though it knocked him out. He's been shot, stabbed, bitten, and even kept fighting despite being injured to the point of starvation! He's also survived having a piece of wood being lodged in his abdomen long enough for him to reach Bartholomew Roberts, a pirate almost as dangerous as Blackbeard himself!

Kokonoe: He can easily dodge flintlock pistols and musket shots, outran and tackled nimble runners, and even outran the mortar fire that besieged Ocracoke.

Junko: Yeah, no doubt this guy's an excellent Freerunner.

Kokonoe: Despite lacking the formal training of an Assassin, Edward's years of privateering and pirating and repeatedly climbing and infiltrating ships and fortresses gave him the experience, skill, and dexterity rivaling that of a Master Assassin. He's capable of scaling trees and cliffs with relative ease, climbing all sorts of buildings, among them windmills with slowly spinning blades and even vertical cracks on walls.

Ann: He's also a master at stealth.

Ann: He's killed many guards undetected and can dip into crowds to hide from plain sight. This includes groups of dancers or drunk pirates that he hires. Not only that, but he can eavesdrop on conversations and pickpocket targets without being seen. He's snuck through several sips, infiltrated warehouses and fortresses, snuck up on the Guardians of Long Bay, and will even sabotage alarm bells to prevent the enemy from alerting the base if he ever is discovered.

Junko: Though part of why he is so good at this is probably thanks to his Eagle Vision.

Junko: A special ability passed down to a select number of humans by the First Civilization. This basically allows Edward to understand the alignments of the people he sees.

Kokonoe: If they're red, they're an enemy. If they're yellow, they have a mission for him. And if they're blue, they're an ally.

Ann: Edward's Eagle Vision allows him to "tag" enemies and mission targets, enabling him to detect their location even when not using Eagle Vision. If an enemy or target is tagged, Edward can see them even through walls and obstacles. Edward's Eagle Vision also allows him to find potential hiding spots in various places.

Junko: Now, I'll go on a bit of a side note. There are assassins like Edward's grandson, Connor Kenway, who prefer to take a more direct approach when it comes to killing people. Then there are assassins like Altaïr, who prefer to take the more stealthy approach to kill their targets. Edward likes to do a little bit of both, making him an excellent combatant.

Junko: Edward is skilled at handling any weapon he comes across. He's dominated in bar brawls across the Caribbean, proving his skill in hand-to-hand combat. He can even clear ship decks of soldiers without much effort.

Kokonoe: According to Blackbeard, Edward was seen clearing the deck of a Spanish Galleon like it was nothing... and Battalions can normally hold up to a thousand men.

Junko: He can react to and counter the attacks of two opponents at once and kill them both in multiple ways. He'd even use enemy soldiers as human shields to prevent himself from being shot.

Ann: Edward will typically wield two blades at once and will use both to extreme efficiency. But before we get to his swords, let's talk about his Assassin Robes.

Kokonoe: Stolen from the Master Assassin-turned-Templar, Duncan Walpole, and modified to suit his personality and purposes, these robes can hold up to four pistol holsters, two on the waist belt and two on the shoulder belt. Edward also crafted additional pieces of leather armor for these robes for increased protection.

Junko: He's also got a hidden blade.

Junko: The signature weapon of all assassins! It can be activated just by flexing the wrist and is perfect for instantly killing foes for stealth assassinations! They can also be used in battle and Edward has two of them!

Ann: He's also got his own personal swords!

Ann: While not the strongest swords he has in his arsenal, these blades are his personal favorite and are pretty good when dual-wielded. But if that's not good enough he's also got golden flintlock pistols!

Ann: These were given to Edward by Dutch merchant Milo van der Graaff after completing all the naval contracts! They're his most powerful guns and he carries four on person! He can even dual-wield them!

Kokonoe: We shouldn't forget about his Blowpipe.

Kokonoe: This was a gift given to him by the Assassin, Mary Read.

Junko: Isn't Mary a pirate?

Kokonoe: Assassin's Creed isn't always historically accurate. Anyway, this Blowpipe carries two types of darts, fifteen each. It carries sleep darts and berserk darts.

Junko: As you can imagine, sleep darts make you all asleep. Just one can knock out a crocodile. But berserk darts cause their targets to go into a frenzied rage, causing them to attack anything in range, even their allies, and when the effect wears off, the target will die! Edward himself has to shoot this one at a distance to avoid getting attacked as well.

Kokonoe: Then there's his Rope Darts.

Kokonoe: These were given to Edward by Ah Tabai, the mentor of the West Indies Brotherhood of Assassins. Edward can carry fifteen at a time and use them to pull opponents towards melee range or hang opponents to choke them to death. He used just one of these to kill the infamous pirate Bartholomew Roberts.

Junko: Oh, and finally his throwing knife.

Junko: Edward only uses this as a last-minute resort and will usually only carry one, due to his preference for firearms, pistols, and darts.

Ann: But despite his expert skills as a pirate, he was anything but perfect.

Junko: Edward can still be killed by normal human means, though he has survived injuries normal humans wouldn't. He's also limited in ammo and darts... hell, he doesn't even have the proper training of other assassins.

Kokonoe: Still, he would eventually realize his path had caused him to lose many friends and family members. Once he had learned he had a daughter, he would quit being a pirate and spend more time with her as a father... before finally being killed at age 43.

Ann: Still, he did help pave the way for other assassins. Including his grandson who will become one of the best assassins the world had to offer.

Edward: I once sailed for a king. I obeyed men of privilege and wealth. Now, I bend my knee to no man. My only oath is to my crew and together we will take back what is rightfully ours. With blood and steel, we shall stand up to the powerful. Captains will curse our flag, and kings will fear it. As long as empires generate wealth and riches, we will be there to bleed them dry.
