Vanillawish's limp body was sprawled on the earth. Blood has followed her through the ferns at the entrance. The tips of her cream-coloured fur was stained red. Her back was shredded apart, her ear was torn and her muzzle flopped lazily.

Honeykit's eyes were stuck on the limp figure. Her body felt heavy. She sunk down and down, even when she reached the ground her heart continued to plummet. Tears spilled out her eyes and when she tried to stop, the waterfalls rushed faster.

"Honeykit?" Her sister's voice wavered, still staring at their mother. When Honeykit didn't respond, Sunkit tore her eyes off of the broken body.
"Honeykit?!" She shrieked, spinning around.
Honeykit was laying unconscious on the floor.

Honeykit's eyes fluttered open.
She was lying down in a mossy nest in a hollow tree. She searched her mind for what had happened. Why was she here?
It all came flooding to her all at once.
Her mother's body sprawled on the floor, Sageswirl, Berrypool and Sunkit rushing to the medical den, the hushed whispers, Sunkit's wailing echoing in her head.

Her eyes clouded with grief. She wanted to curl up into a ball and cry, her dark thoughts eating at her. "Honeykit?" A soft voice called. She blinked to be rid of her blurry vision.

A tortoiseshell tom padded into the den. Honeykit blinked once again when she saw his one amber eye and one blue eye. The cat smiled knowingly, "I know, first time seeing it, huh?" He didn't seem hurt, he seemed understanding. "The name's Thrushheart. I'm the medicine cat. I know you don't know me, but, I try to meet everyone" He grinned "Not that I want people to get hurt!"

Honeykit was soothed by his voice, so smooth, so friendly. She found it difficult not to smile back. But then she remembered the body, her vision became blurry from tears once again.

"Mothpaw! Could you get Honeykit a bit of.." he paused, searching for a word, "Wonder herb" he settled with.

A silver tabby she-cat padded into the hollow med den. She looked her up and down before tossing her this so-called "Wonder herb" to her. Mothpaw dipped her head then turned to her mentor to whisper about visitors.

Honeykit prodded the herb suspiciously before munching on it. She sighed as relief flooded her followed by a wave of happiness. She continued to munch the herb, feeling every muscle on her body relax. She closed her eyes and purred, overflowing with satisfaction.

A ginger figure leaped onto her, bowling her over. She snapped out of her trance and hissed at the creature before realising who it was.

"Sunkit?" She meowed, surprise clear in her tone.
"Sunpaw now" her sister said, puffing out her chest. She leaped off of a shocked Honeykit, "Goldstar gave me Ebonytail as a mentor. He's painfully boring but at least he taught me things!"

Honeykit supposed she should be happy for her sister but though she was, she was hurt that while she was unconscious her sister moved on. "How long have I been asleep for?" Honeykit said, groggily stretching and standing on her paws. "Just for a day, we've had worse" Thrushheart chimed in, "Wait while I fetch you some fresh-kill. Mothpaw, could you stay here and make sure no more than 2 cats enter?" The silver she-cat dipped her head before sitting outside the tree.

"Why aren't I an apprentice?" Honeykit tried to sound calm but it came out as a whine.
"Because you were snoring your head off! I could hear you from the apprentice den!" She snorted, humor dancing in her eyes.

"If it makes you feel better, even when she got her mentor she sat by you and refused to train until you woke up" Mothpaw's quiet but clear voice rang out from the entrance. It warmed her heart to hear that she was with her and that Mothpaw had finally decided to speak.

Finally, after a few impatient comments, Thrushheart returned to the den, tossing a fat mouse over. "Eat up then head out. It's about time you had your apprentice ceremony"
