Chapter 15

Honeypaw padded back into camp just after sunhigh.

The afternoon sunlight streamed onto every pelt in the clearing, making each and every cat glow. Dawnsong was dropping a plump vole onto the kill pile, which was starting to grow rapidly, Sprucefrost was organising the pile into each animal and Acorncloud was watching from her den.

Honeypaw came closer to her, eventually resting beside the chocolaty fur. Acorncloud's hazel eyes wondered around the camp.

"Good morning Honeypaw" She meowed, rolling onto her back and yawning as she extended her jaws.

"It's past sunhigh" Remarked Honeypaw, raising a quizzical eyebrow at her (Cats do have eyebrows by the way, they're just faint).

"Oh. I suppose it is" She said, seemingly careless. Her gaze was directed somewhere else. Honeypaw followed her eyes to none other than the deputy. She watched as the warm brown furred tom came striding towards them. Acorncloud rolled over immediately, smoothing her fur down with her paw.

"Ah, Honeypaw, Acorncloud, just the cats I wanted to see" He meowed, flashing another one of those charming grins. Honeypaw was sure she saw a pinkish tinge appear under Acorncloud's fur.

"Honeypaw, Ebonytail has been looking for you." His face creased in concern "Something about Sunpaw"

Honeypaw nodded, ignoring the dread creeping inside her. First, missing from her den at the dead of night and now her littermate's mentor wants to see Honeypaw about her sister. Something told her this wasn't good news.

"Acorncloud, are you free for a bit of hunting?". Sprucefrost's words broke her train of thought. Acorncloud looked up, her hazel eyes glittering with something Honeypaw couldn't read. Perhaps it was beyond her imagination. Perhaps it was a strange coincidence that the same expression was reflected back on Sprucefrost's chocolatey eyes.

"Oh yeah sure". Acorncloud's reply came as a hasty mumble. The pinkish tinge became a hot pink.

"Well" Sprucefrost glanced first at Acorncloud, then Honeypaw. "Ebonytail is at the apprentice den". Honeypaw nodded before leaving the two warriors alone. The energy between them two was awkward but somewhat comfortable. She padded over to the apprentice den, spotting a worried yet fierce Ebonytail pacing around the entrance, his stormy blue eyes blazing with annoyance. Honeypaw also saw a tuft of cinnamon fur in the most shaded corner of the hollow tree.

"Honeypaw, thank StarClan!" The tuxedo Tom meowed, his voice thick with frustration, "Sunpaw has been sleeping all day! She doesn't listen when I speak, and when she does wake up she refuses to train!"

Honeypaw's eyes widened in shock, Sunpaw, her ambitious, early-rising sister refusing to get up and train? Sunpaw, the kit who once used to stare up at the Brackenrock longingly, promising to herself and StarClan that one day she'd be up there. She promised she'd work hard every day, but it seemed as if she was slacking. She wasn't herself. Not anymore.

"Can you knock some sense into her please!" Begged Ebonytail. Honeypaw glanced at the cinnamon puff that was her sister. Sunpaw was sleeping peacefully, almost too peacefully. Honestly, Honeypaw was starting to lose trust in her.

"Oh, yeah, sure" Honeypaw mewed, attempting to flash a charming Sprucefrost grin. It came out lopsided. Ebonytail nodded, lip still curled as he padded away.

Trying to hold her head high, she went inside the hollow tree. Sunpaw turned onto her side obliviously as Honeypaw crept closer to her relaxed figure.

"Sunpaw" She whispered softly, nudging her sister with her paw. Often unseen annoyance bubbled inside her.

"Sunpaw!" She snapped, this time shoving her. The cinnamon cat's head lolled to the side as she turned again. The annoyance turned to rage as Honeypaw slapped her in the face, forgetting to sheathe her claws.

Sunpaw jolted awake, yelping confused sentences as small streams of blood poured out the right side of her face. Honeypaw slithered backwards, her eyes wide and guilt all over her face. Sunpaw sat up and glared at her, furious as she shouted.

"WHAT DID YOU JUST DO?!" She snapped, leaping onto Honeypaw and bowling her over. Honeypaw, caught by surprise, didn't have enough time to dart away so instead her littermate pinned her to the ground.

"Get off!" She cried, using a battle technique she saw Ebonytail teach Sunpaw. Funnily enough, Sunpaw didn't expect it from her.

Honeypaw batted Sunpaw's belly with her hind legs, causing enough distraction to let her wriggle free. Letting out a yowl of victory, Honeypaw scrambled over to the exit of the den, before her tail being yanked back to where she was originally. Honeypaw wasted no time, twisting under her hind legs so that she was facing Sunpaw. Oh how the turns have tabled, for Sunpaw was now being pinned by her sister. Except there wasn't fury on her face anymore as they both heard the pawsteps of another cat, it was a smirk.

"Sunpaw, it's sunhigh, so if you don't get up right now-" Ebonytail stopped what he was doing as soon as he saw Honeypaw pinning his apprentice down and the streaks of blood on Sunpaw's cheek.

"Honeypaw" He growled, "Out". Ferocity was pooling in his stormy blue glare as he held eye contact with Honeypaw.

"But I-"

"OUT!" Ebonytail shrieked, baring his teeth at her.

I didn't mean to do this, I really didn't. Sunpaw attacked me, she would've never done that. She would've accepted it was an accident. She wouldn't sleep in, she'd be eager to train even before dawn. Come to think of it why were we fighting? Honeypaw begged for once that Ebonytail could read minds, but nothing changed on his face, even when Honeypaw dragged herself out, her tail and ears drooping.

Nobody trusted her anymore. Why, even her sister was against her. This clan practically hated her. As she padded away, she heard the distant cry of her sister, one so accusing that it made her heart plummet.

"I don't know, Ebonytail, she's a monster!"

Am I really a monster?

----------------------

Exhausted, Honeypaw padded into camp once more, with a vole, chaffinch and mouse in her jaws. Sunpaw's words ate at her heart, enough so that she decided to hunt it off. The sky was painted with orange and pink as the sun began to fall.

To Honeypaw's surprise, Silkeyes' kits were playing outside the nursery; she watched in delight as Nightkit pounced on Swankit, knocking the silver tuxedo cat over while yapping, "I am the leader of DeathClan! You will surrender!"

Swankit had a smirk on his face as he spoke with a dramatic flare, "Well I am Goldstar, and you will never defeat me!". The kits became a ball of chaos and they grappled eachother and tugged eachother's ears. Milkkit stretched her paws forward, getting into a leaping position.

"I am Thrushheart, and I command you surrender to FernClan!" Milkkit squeaked, lifting her paw into the air. Swankit and Nightkit immediately came to a stop.

"Milkkit, medicine cats don't fight" Swankit hissed. Nightkit bobbed his tiny head, "Yeah, you can be someone else!"

Milkkit's wide, smiling mouth became a frown, "But who else am I supposed to be?" She questioned, her eyes glossy.

"Dunno, Dawnsong or something" Swankit mumbled, out of earshot of the fawn cat, who was sharing tongues with her brother.

"But Dawnsong is always with Dusksong" She groaned, "There's only 3 of us"

By now, Honeypaw had dropped her prey in the fresh kill pile and was glancing at the kits with interest. It wasn't long before Nightkit caught her stare.

"Hi! Can you play with us-"

"She's an apprentice, she won't have time to play with us" Swankit interrupted.

"No, no, I can play. I've done all my apprentice duties" Honeypaw meowed with a grin. Milkkit gave her a wonky smile in thanks.

Honeypaw padded over to the three kits and sat herself down, watching as Nightkit and Swankit redid their scene.

"I am Dawnsong! Quick, Dusksong, gather the warriors!" Milkkit yelped, glancing expectantly at Honeypaw. Not wanting to let the kits down, Honeypaw furrowed her eyebrows and let out a growl. If she was doing an impression of Dusksong, it had to be good.

"Do it yourself featherbrain!" Honeypaw/Dusksong sighed dramatically, wiping her paw against her forehead as if she was wiping the sweat of of her fur, "I'm really  tired from doing nothing all day. Now, can you stop your epic battle while I bicker with my sister?"

Nightkit snorted, his emerald eyes glowing. Milkkit stifled a giggle while Swankit tried to keep serene. It was clear they were enjoying this. Honeypaw was glad that somebody was being nice to her today. Except Chestnutpaw, he was nice to me too, she thought as a pink tinge appeared under her fur.

"The leader of DeathClan doesn't wait for fighting littermates!" Nightkit/ Brokennight cried, "Anyways, you've got mice for brains!". All of a sudden, the 3 kits and the apprentice burst out laughing, rolling around in the shade. A silver head poked out of the nursery; it was about time for sleep.

"Kits, get in here!" Silkeyes trilled. Her grey eyes looked around for her kits, but along with them came the joyful figure of Honeypaw purring away. Silkeyes immediately snatched the tiny kits and glared at Honeypaw.

"Mumm we were just playing" Swankit grumbled, but was cut off.

"Don't talk to her, she's a monster" Silkeyes hissed at Honeypaw's direction.

Everyone hates me.
