Sonic had some help from Shadow to get back into his bed...the hedgehog kind of felt bad that he didn't really have any fun activities he could do with his new friend...that was safe for him at least to play.

"Are you okay?"

"I...I'm sorry that we couldn't do anything that was fun...your arrival was just so sudden that I didn't even get a chance to ask the nurse to at least get us some board games, or a pack of cards." Sonic apologized...he really couldn't a lot of cause how easily it was for him get hurt...even break a bone in his body. He just felt so useless around his new friend.

"Hey it's alright, there is always tomorrow we can try do to do something."

Sonic only looked at Shadow, as his ears perked up slightly. "Like a Sleepover?"

Shadow didn't know how to answer that...since he really couldn't over stay with the hedgehog, as much as he would like to, he didn't even know if the hospital staff would even let him spend the night with the sickly hedgehog.

"I don't know."

Sonic only looked down in disappointment with himself mostly...this had been the first time that he had actually made a friend, and he didn't have to leave the comfort of his hospital room or even break any rules, and now cause of his stupid condition...he couldn't even do the things that friends would normally do...well to his acknowledgment on the matter.

There was a knock on the door, before it was opened. "Sorry about the interruption...but I have brought over a cot for you Shadow."

"You, didn't have to do that I can easily just find an apartment that is close to hospital to stay in."

"I know, but this should at least let you rest, after all you must've came a long way."

That part was true, it was rather long two hours trip or well what was supposed to be a two hours trip, but cause of traffic it was a solid seven hours trip, but it was all worth it in the end. He only softly sighed to himself...at least now he could at least let Sonic experience his first sleepover, in a way.

After Shadow had agreed to spending the night with Sonic...it was at least enough to put Sonic into a better mood.

It took a while for Shadow get to settled in for the night, the room itself was rather quiet and dark besides the beam of light that came from the moonlight. Neither hedgehog spoke to break the silence of the room.

"Shadow...I'm really sorry that your drive to see me was utterly uneventful...I just really wished, we could do more things, like normal mobians can do" Sonic said to break the silence. He really couldn't help apologizing for his medical condition...as happy as he was to see his penpal, he just hadn't realized how hard it was going be for him to actually enjoy having a friend with him.

Sure he could do all the things that he does with Cream, but this was someone that was a year older than him, maybe this meeting was bad idea...and they should've just stuck with writing letters.

"Sonic...your disease is what your makes you unique to be around...if anything I don't mind having to take things slow, and adjusting just for you."

Sonic was shocked when he heard that, he shifted his body so that he could look at Shadow who was laying on the cot that was shorter than the bed that he was laying on. "You really mean that?"

"Mhm, I meant with what I said in my letter, the moment that we started writing to each other...I felt that connection with you."

Sonic maybe isolated from a lot of things, but he there were somethings that he had some understanding about...but from what he was feeling it was definitely something that he never felt before, it was like he got butterflies in his stomach.

He just couldn't believe, that the universe was actually being nice to him for once...first he got a penpal...and got to experience getting a letter for the first time, and now he actually got to meet his penpal, and just like him. He felt that connection as well from the day that he first sent out his response letter, to this point.

Shakingly he reached his hand out, he might not be able to be physical beside just giving Shadow a hug, but he can still hold his hand...right?

Shadow took a hold of Sonic's hand, it was a little awkward cause of the position that Shaw was laying on the cot, but he honestly felt compelled to do return the gesture. If anything he wanted nothing more than see those sparks in Sonic's eyes, as well as a genuine smile from him. If anything he didn't care about the hedgehog condition, if anything it just gave him more of an excuse for him to want to stay.

"I'm glad that the universe had brought us together...it was hard trying to stay happy...I just always felt like a burden, cause of Dr. Rabbit was spending a lot of her money on my treatment, when she should be spending it on Cream, if anything was just felt like ending my suffering early would allow me to feel happy...or at least let Dr. Rabbit not worry about me, but I just couldn't bring myself to it..." Sonic explained, as he just held onto Shadow's hand. "I've gotten so far that I could live outside of that purification chamber."

"Do you still have hope that you can beat that disease?"

"Mhm, even though the chances are slim and close to nothing...but I'm glad that I didn't go through with that plan, cause I got to meet you." Sonic finally admits, after hearing Shadow words about him feeling that connection like he did, he just felt so relieved. Besides his Doctor and her daughter, at least he had someone else to fill in that missing void that he was missing. He just had yet figured out what that what that is.
