A Gift

Author's POV:

After arranging everything in the flat they all seated to lunch and had their lunch with laughs. Though Rudra never accepted, he feels envious for venu. He wanted to have too what venu has in his life. The unconditional love of a mother, unrestricted support of a father and unequivocal vibes of a family.

He used to have that too when he was a child. His mothers sweet good mornings, lovely smiles, caring scolds, lots of kisses, hugs, cuddles. He used to have everything. His father used to be his partner in crime. The duo would together means the hell of mischievousness unleash for his mother. His father was his saviour from his mother's scoldings. His father and he used to go on late night dates, his mother and he used to have midnight snacks. They used to be a very happy family. But now.....

He excused himself from the family to give them their family time and went out. Though venu and his family knew why he had left they remained silent. Venu's mother's heart broke upon seeing the condition of the boy who has grown infront of her eyes. Their families used to be very close. The boys were grown together in each others households. They told him to stay with them as their family was also his family. They told him that he was their second son so no need to be feel courteous or hesitate. But he couldn't bring himself to have them his burden, not the physical one but the mental one.

He believed they shouldn't be take care of the baggage of an emotional kid who had a load on his mind. So he forced himself to man-up at the tender age of 12.

He went outside the flat and upon the terrace. The apartments were not much bigger. Though the society itself very small it has only five apartment buildings in which they each have 6 flats. The flats would give very lively and homely feeling. The society was filled with greens and they have almost all the requirements. Gym centres, indoor and outdoor game centres, swimming pools, children parks, parlours all the necessary points.

The most impressive thing was their balconies. The balconies were very huge and specially designed to take rest and hangout with couches swings and grass sheets. Most of the families living here have their own vegetable gardens in their balconies. The terrace comprise of two huge water tanks, one was for the municipality chlorinated drinking water and the other was normal water which used to do chores. One can have the municipal water for drinking or they can order mineral water dispenser bottles from the nearby plant. The terrace was almost filled with rose plants with different colours of roses throughout the railing of the terrace. He went to one side of railing and sat there dangling his legs through the gaps of the railing looking at the busy roads.

When the boys turned 16 they joined their own family businesses. Not in the sense of handling them. They would just used to go after their classes and on weekends. They just observe the work environment to know how that thing works. They used to sit in the corner of the board rooms meetings without disturbing them and used to just listen to them. They used to sit with employees when they were discussing ideas and preparing strategies. Slowly they started to give their opinions which sometimes impressed everyone. They used to do small works around the office. After an year they became weekend interns of the office, they used to give better ideas and strategies to improve the business and so they started to get their salary. Then the boys stopped taking pocket money from the family. They started to invest in shares and surprisingly got returns from the first attempt itself.

Now at the tender age of 18 they already became pros at business managing and shares. This was all happened just because they set their goal at very early age and worked hard to know anything and everything related to that field. They left no chance to get experience and to get nurtured. Now they were there because of their mindset on having their own empires in their wanted fields.

Among all of these the boys were very happy at getting want they want and doing what they like. But the parents, they were another thing.

While all the other parents wants their children to be like these boys, being responsible, being smart, being productive, being serious about their lives. The boys parents were very much disappointed. Because they have no noise in the house, no tantrums in the house, no mischievous in the house, since both were single child, the parents never have the headache of parenting due to their abnormal behaviour. Like seriously which teenage boy would not rebel against their parents, they wonder. They never had to shout at their children to behave, they never had to look out for the children.

In normal houses the parents has to guard the children as they would lift the total house on their heads, moving and replacing everything here and there.

In normal houses they had to strictly monitor the children to done homework and took seriousness about their studies.

In normal houses they had to coax the children to postpone the outing, dinner, park, amusement park, icecream, pizza dates and etc.,

In normal houses they need to tell their children to not lazy around do some work or help parents.

But in their houses there would nothing like this sort would happen. The parents life would has to be described in one word then it would be boring, with a capital b.

Rudra came back to his senses when a water droplet touched his face. He looked up to the sky and realised it was almost sunset. The black clouds filled with water were moving here and there. The cool breeze was telling that it's time the clouds were going to deliver what they were bearing.

He stood up forcefully by the help of railing with a small grunt. He dusted off his pants with his hands. When he was about to leave he saw something beside his foot. He took it into his hands to see what was it.

It's a small size milkshake carton to which the straw was attached. Considering the amount of coldness the packet has and the wet patch around the packet on the flooring, it must be placed not before half an hour back.

But who kept it there? Is it for him? Why would they leave it for him? Did he lost that much into his thoughts to not know what's happening around him! He wondered.

The packet has a sky blue colour sticky note on it. It reads "smile" with a smiley drawn besides it. The smiley face got two cute bunny teeth along with bunny ears. The drawing was very cute that he couldn't stop himself from smiling. Everything was written with a dark blue pen.

It must be a girl he thought. Because he don't think boys could draw a smiley with that much of overflowing cuteness. The bunny even has blush on its cheeks, but it was another thing that the blush was of blue colour.

He looked to his sides and around the terrace only to found no one there. He was not sure if it's for him or not. He wondered, would anyone come to get it after he leave with it. But he concluded that it was for him because it was placed just beside him. He folded the sticky note and kept it carefully in his pocket.

He looked at the milkshake packet which was of chocolate flavour. He wasn't a fan of chocolate but it's not like he was a foe either. He punched the straw in the packet and went down drinking it when the rain drops started to fall with much more density.

When he went back to their flat he noticed only venu was in the living room sitting on the couch leisurely while doing something on his phone.

"They left?" Rudra asked about his parents to which venu replied without lifting his head.

"Yeah! They wanted to see you before they left but you left your mobile in your room." He let out a playful whistle upon seeing his friend, finally lifting his head from his mobile. Rudra just raised his eyebrow at his friend asking a silent question about what makes his friend so excited suddenly.

"I never knew you were a fan of milkshakes, that too chocolate." Mischievousness was visible in his face.

"A gift." Rudra went to his room shrugging off.

"A gift! I don't think so. I can smell something was going to be changed in your boring life. It's good thing we moved here." Venu laughed at his friend to which Rudra just shook his head in displeasure and shut his door off.

So guys finally the boring chapters of introduction are over.

So what do you guys think?

Do you agree with venu that Rudra's life was going to be changed.

Who kept the milkshake for him! Do you have any idea?
