Chapter 4 | Kata
9/20/16
Dear Sky,
It's me again. Obviously. I mean who else would it be?
Anyways, school has only been going on for a month and I'm already so done with it. However, I'd rather be at school than at home. Especially since I got a B on this algebra test. It's gonna be hell once Mother finds out. I tried really hard in class and paid attention, I swear! I'm just not as smart as everyone thinks I am. I mean Mother knows I'm not smart...and don't get me wrong, I don't really care, but Mother does. I have to stay on course so I can graduate two years early or whatever.
I probably sound like some teenage girl complaining about her parents for no reason, but Lana agrees with me, and I'm pretty sure your parents aren't supposed to control your life. Or...whatever this is. I don't even really have a life actually. I have a few acquaintances, I don't know if I could even call them friends, but it's not like I ever get to see them unless we're in school. Well, I take that back, Katie is my friend. And I guess Lana is also my friend but that doesn't count because she's my sister. I'm not really a part of anything I enjoy except for theatre. I mean I guess I also have early mornings and late nights to do things I want. I also don't really have a say in a lot of things that affect my life majorly. Not to mention the fact that whenever I'm at home I need to be working on something productive or else I won't get into a good enough college. At least that's Mother's reasoning.
I don't think that really counts as a living. That's just not dying. There's a difference between living and surviving.
Maybe everything would be a little better if I could actually have someone to talk to. I guess I could talk to Lana or Dad, but Lana has so much on her plate right now, and I don't need to be adding to that. Dad's never home so there goes that. Plus I don't want to contribute any more to him and Mother fighting. I don't really trust any of my "friends" that much. I don't even know them that well. I've never gotten the chance to. I really don't know who I can really talk to. I mean I guess there's Katie...but things have been weird since Hunter came around. Don't get me started on him.
I just want to escape all of this. Honestly, I want to go up to the mountains really badly. Don't ask me why, I've just felt the urge to go up to the mountains lately. I've always enjoyed the mountains. I like how I can be that much closer to the sky, to where all the birds are. They just look so...free. That's why I really like my family's summer trips to Colorado. Minus the "my family" part. Actually no, it's not even that. Lana and Dad are cool. Mother, however...yeah. When she's not yelling at me she's found some other way to make me be proactive. But I meant what I said. I want to escape ALL of this. ALL people. I just want to be alone for a little while. Alone with nature. So I guess I just want to take a vacation to the mountains by myself.
You know what? That's going to be one of the first things I do once I turn 18. I'm going to go up to the mountains by myself. I'm going to start making a list of things I want to do right now.
List of things I can do once I'm free of Mother's control:
Go up to the mountains
I'll keep adding to the list as I go along. Also, I apologize for any harsh tone Sky. I just haven't had the best day. Anyways, I have a poem because why not:
The mountains they call me
They fill me with glee
Up where the winds blow
Up where the birds crow
I feel alive like I could soar
My voice is louder than a roar
The night sky almost in my touch
Would all of this go away, all that hurts so much-
Up with the snow on the top of the world
Up where the wispy clouds are swirled?
Because that is where I want to be
For that is where I feel free
