Akagi was sitting inside the faculty office, trying to talk to his editor while other teachers were having their lunch, talking and laughing. "The number you have dialled is not responding, please try again later."
'Fuck you, phonemic lady! I've been trying for the past fifteen minutes, now I'm going to beat the crap out of him and make him unresponsive to anything.' Akagi was boiling because his editor had again fixed a meeting of him with some other author without his consent.
Then, he called the publishing house, "Sir, is it possible that I block my editor's number?" Someone on the other side said something but Akagi couldn't hear it because of all the commotion the other teachers were creating.
"Excuse me, what? I couldn't hear you—Can you people shut up?!" He finally shouted at the other teachers, "I'm trying to do some work here."
"Can't you just go outside?"
"It's even louder outside given that those students have their break and I'm not in a mood to kill anyone currently so don't make me develop such a mood."
"You talk like a homicide."
"I know right? I might be one too. That's what happens when you're forced to do a job." Akagi said.
"Show some respect to your colleagues—"
"Respect has never been my strong suit. I hate people," Akagi got up and walked out of the staff room.
"Wow, he's quite a man..."
"He's a shit,"
That night, Akagi went to another talk show—Thanks to his editor. Vierne prepared the food, laid the table and put her laundry to dry. After she and Melissa were done eating, Melissa did the dishes while Vierne went to Lict's room. She had mopped the floor of the entire mansion that morning and her back was hurting after all that work. She wasn't used to the housework but she did it because she had no other choice.
She looked at the book Grigory gave her as she sat beside Lict. Then, she kept it aside and looked at him. He had a slight blemish on his neck, "Are you going to leave too, Lict? We made a contract. You were supposed to be there forever but I'm losing you and I can do nothing to stop it."
She pressed her head over his chest—Right above his contract mark—And closed her eyes. His warm skin and his heartbeats seemed like a lullaby. Vierne remembered the lullaby her mother used to sing to her. Some faint voices and lyrics played inside her mind as she fell asleep.
Lict's contract mark slowly began glowing bright golden and the light spread to his body as his veins glowed goldenly. As all his wounds began healing and they appeared on Vierne's body instead. He opened his eyes and looked at her face. He moved her aside and got up. Her wounds were now healing slowly but he realised that he was hurting her and couldn't bear to see that. He patted her head gently, "This has to stop," He whispered, "But I don't want it to."
Vierne woke up to the smell of lavenders. She opened her eyes and found herself in her bed. It was morning already. As soon as the clock struck seven, the door to her room opened and Lict walked inside with a kettle filled with lavender tea and a Lomonosov cup and plate.
"Good morning, Milady. I see you're up by yourself today." He smiled and kept the tray on the table. Vierne stared at him as he poured the tea into the cup, "Do you know, Milady," He turned towards her, "Lavender tea is the best pain reliever—"
She jumped at him and he fell on the bed, "Milady, the tea—"
She hugged him tightly, "Milady? Is everything alright?"
"It wasn't. But now, it might be."
He smiled, "The tea is getting cold,"
Vierne sat at the table near the balcony and enjoyed her morning tea as Lict played a soothing violin piece for her. He prepared the bath and after she took a bath, she found her food ready on the dining table. She ate it and walked back to her room. She took her books while Lict brushed her hair.
"Lict," She whispered.
"Yes, Milady?"
"I really like...the violin that you play."
He smiled, "That's nice to hear. I can play it for you every day."
"Yes, play it for me every day. Play it for me till the day I die."
He didn't look very happy after hearing those words. His smile had a hidden sadness. Vierne looked at his face through the mirror before them.
"Is that an order?" He asked.
She breathed, "That's a request."
He smiled, "I would play it for you till my fingers have the strength to."
Vierne didn't like this answer, "And what after that?" She asked.
"Well," He looked at the ceiling, "There are many violinists out there."
He moved away from her, "There. Your hair is done, Milady."
"Oh, you woke up!" Akagi stood at Vierne's door, "Finally, I'd have some fucking good food."
"That's all that Milord cares about. Aren't you bothered about Lict at all?" Melissa stood beside him.
"I might; like I look unbothered but deep down inside, in the deepest corner of my heart—I'm still unbothered."
"I was expecting something lustful!"
"Keep your expectations low and your standards high! Alright now, enough of morning prayers—"
"That was a prayer?"
"Bring your ass to the car. We're getting late. Meanwhile, I'll go have some fucking good food."
"Akagi," Lict stepped forward. Akagi turned back and looked at him, "What?"
"I don't feel like going to school anymore." He said. Vierne was shocked.
"What—But why, Lict?" Melissa asked.
"...I like staying at home." Lict smiled"
"Shut the fuck up and come down. You can't drop out under my watch."
"You're not my master!" Lict turned towards Vierne, "Milady—"
"Lord Akagi is right. You shouldn't drop out in between."
"Okay," He gave in.
Vierne realised that Lict wasn't himself. He was trying to keep their conversations short and avoided talking to her or looking into her eyes. He would stay with Dasha and her friends. They stopped bothering Vierne after that.
"Lict, want to have lunch together?" Vierne asked.
"I promised Dasha that I'd eat with her."
'No, you don't want to stay beside me. But it is okay. I won't force you to or beg you.'
"Lict is eating with her again!" Melissa groaned. She sat beside Vierne on the stairs as she ate her lunch, "Why don't you say something, Vierne?! He's your star spirit, not hers! You can give him orders—You have every right over him!"
"Melissa, you can't force love onto someone. And a love that I have to force isn't worth having."
Melissa looked at Vierne and her face dropped, "But Vierne, he looks much happier with you, not Dasha. He doesn't even glow golden anymore like he used to."
Vierne didn't say anything. The bell rang and she got up, "I'll go now. Got a math class."
She left Melissa on the stairs, "You look sad too, Vierne. I don't understand why you both are making yourself go through this when it doesn't make you who you are."
She reached her class and looked at Lict, Dasha, Grigory and Debora sitting together on the last benches.
"He's your star spirit, not hers! You can give him orders—You have every right over him!"
She gathered her courage and walked towards Lict. They all looked at her, "Lict, sit with me today."
"But Milady—"
"It's an order."
'I am such a hypocrite'
Lict got up. "What? Who are you to give him orders? Lict, why are you listening to her—Lict!" Dasha shouted as he followed Vierne to the first seat. She glanced at him. He seemed sad. She knew it wasn't a good decision and decided not to do it again. The class started but Vierne felt something weird. She decided to look at it later and just focus on the class. Lict glanced at her from the corner of his eyes. But as soon as he looked down, his eyes widened.
"Milady!" He got up. Vierne had blood all over her skirt, which was flowing down her legs. She got up and looked at her seat, "What—What is this?" Lict removed his coat and wrapped it around Vierne's waist. He picked her up and ran out of the class. The teacher and everyone else was speechless.
Dasha and Debora snickered while gossiping about what had just happened, but Grigory seemed worried. Then, he glared at Dasha.
"What's so funny?" He asked.
"Didn't you just see what happened? She got her period and she was like—What is this?" Dasha laughed.
"And how is that funny? Don't you get a period?" He said.
"What are you saying, Grigory. Shut up!" She turned red with embarrassment.
"Why? Aren't you a woman too? This is what disgusts me about women—They expect men to support them while they can't do that for each other. Dasha, you disgust me!" He got up and walked out of the class.
"Am I invisible to you people?" The teacher had his own issues. Everyone was gossiping. While Dasha, she could think of only one thing.
Vengeance.
