An Invitation
Dear Ms. Theodosia Burr,
I have noticed that you and Philip have become very close lately. I would love if you and your father could attend our annual New Year's Eve party. I'm sure Philip would love it if you would come. It will be on New Year's Eve at my house. Wear are your nicest clothes.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton.
Theodosia ran downstairs to find her father. Theo and Philip had been writing letters back and forth lately and the two had a thing for each other, but their father's couldn't know. There was about a foot of snow on the ground. Christmas was four days away and she wanted to get something for Philip. Maybe a new quil? Theodosia ran into the library.
"Papa, Papa!" She yelled. Aaron looked up from his work.
"Yes Theo," He said.
"Mrs. Hamilton as invited us to her New Year's Eve party, see look," Theo said handing him the letter. Aaron looked down at his work.
"I'm sorry to disappoint you Theo, but I already have plans on New Year's' Eve," Theo was disappointed.
"Are you just saying that because you hate Mr. Hamilton?" Theodosia said angrily. She glared at her father. He looked shocked.
"No, no, no Theo, I have to be at a conference in New Jersey that night," Theo looked even more disappointed.
"But you can go by yourself," He said. Theo smiled a bit.
"But don't I need an escort?" Theo asked.
"Maybe you could ask Philip, I'm sure he wouldn't mind coming over to pick you up," Aaron said sorting through more letters.
"Alright I'll go write Mrs. Hamilton right now," Theo said running back up the stairs. She sat at her writing desk.
Dear Mrs. Hamilton,
Thank You for the invitation. It was very kind since I know our families have never really gotten along. I will be attending, but my father will be across the river in New Jersey. Since I will need an escort since I am a lady, I was wondering if Philip could bring me?
Sincerely,
Ms. Theodosia Burr.
Theodosia signed the letter and went downstairs.
"I'm going to the post office Papa," Theodosia called.
"Alright, but be back in time for supper. And bring your coat!" He called.
"Yes Papa," Theodosia called as she left.
Theodosia walked into town. She heard a familiar voice called "Theodosia?" She turned around. She was sad it wasn't Philip, but it was Mr. Hamilton.
"Mr. Hamilton pleasure bumping into you here in town," Theodosia said.
"Yes it is Ms. Burr, and tell me did you get my wife's invitation to our annual New Year's Eve party?" He asked.
"Yes I was about to send my response. My father will be in New Jersey, but I will come, but I need an escort so I was wondering if Philip would pick me up?" Theo said.
"Of course and let me save you the trouble of taking that to the post office and I'm sure Philip will be happy to and if he can't I will," Alexander said with a chuckle.
"Thank you Mr. Hamilton," Theodosia said as she began to walk back home. Alexander smiled.
"Nice to see you Ms. Burr, and I will see you at the party!"
Alexander walked into the house. Philip was reading the paper and Eliza was cooking.
"I bumped into Ms. Burr," Alexander said to his wife.
"What does she have to say? Will she be attending the party?" Eliza asked.
"She will, but she said her father will be out of town and she needs a escort and was wondering if Philip was capable of such a task?" He said making his voice a little louder. Philip's head lifted from the newspaper.
"Of course, let me write her now to say I'll pick her up at eight," Philip said as he marched up the stairs to write her. When he was gone Alexander said..
"He likes her." Eliza nodded her head and said, "If they courted would you be happy?" Alexander thought for a moment.
"As much as I hate Burr, Theodosia is so nice and she makes Philip happy and that's all that matters." Eliza nodded in agreement.
It was Christmas Eve and Theodosia helped her dad carry in logs for the fire. It was late.
"Alright Theodosia I'm going to bed, I'd recommend you do the same," He said planting a kiss on her cheek.
"Okay goodnight Papa," Theo said. Theo was not going to bed anytime soon. She snuck into the kitchen and opened the back door. There stood a freezing Philip.
"Oh Honey," Theodosia said pulling him into the warm kitchen. She brought him to the parlor where the heat of the fire warmed them up.
"It was so nice of you to come," Theo said.
"Do you really think I could stay away from you for that long?" Philip said with a loud chuckle.
"You have to be quiet, my dad can't hear us," Theo said. Philip nodded.
"I got you a present," Theo said.
"Oh Theo I forgot please forgive me," Philip said. Theo giggled.
"It's okay, but do you wanna see your present?" Theodosia said seductively. Philip nodded. Theo pressed her lips into his, a squeal of excitement escaping Philip.
"Quiet," Theo said. They sat there for 20 minutes just talking. Philip got up to leave.
"I love you," He said as he left, making Theodosia's heart flutter.
