Group Project
Janet's POV
I strolled into school on Monday feeling more tired than ever. Sunday passed by like a breeze after that little stunt Amy pulled. I had ignored her texts and calls. It got so frustrating that I had to turn my phone off completely. I had every right to be upset since she decided to take things into her own hands.
I never agreed to that stupid little get together or whatever the hell it was. Sure I was feeling bored and lonely, but that didn't mean I didn't use it. It was the exact reason why I refused to make friends and rather stay alone on my own devices. Amy was nice but she was too hyper and over-energetic.
And then there was Erin
I couldn't read him at all. One moment he's got this shit-eating smirk on his face, and the next he's gentle. I didn't know him as I used to, not that I wanted to. No, I was fine on my own all I had to do was keep my head down and go about my business.
Dragging my feet I stop at my locker to grab some books. I was in a pissy mood since I didn't have enough time to grab a coffee and my favorite blueberry muffin. It seemed these days had slowly been passing by.
I made my way to science class. I grabbed a seat towards the back. Rubbing a hand down my face I began to unpack my things when Erin and Cody came in. He looked good in his black shirt and dark washed jeans. His hair sat messily atop his head, giving him an edgier look.
I looked away before I could make a fool out of myself. Covering my hair over my face I prayed he wouldn't see me. "Look there's Jane"! I heard Cody shout making everyone turn our way. I cursed silently, acting as if I didn't see them making their way towards me.
"Sup Jane" Cody greeted first shooting a smile. I muttered a good morning to them both not daring to look them in the eye. It seemed my prayers hadn't been answered since Erin slid in the seat next to me. I could feel his hot gaze digging holes in the side of my head.
The teacher finally walked in.
"Alright everyone you all have a group assignment coming up. You'll be working together to write about a unique thing that interests you. It can simply be your neighborhood or a work in progress invention. I want everyone to choose a partner as this is a partner assignment".
I felt my heart instantly drop. I hated group projects with a passion. I hated it even more than the teacher was making us choose our partners. It was awkward going around and asking if anyone had found a partner.
Glancing around the room, everyone seemed to have someone in mind. Yet here I sat no one even tried to come up to me. I then noticed a laid back Erin still sitting in his seat as well. Confused I turned my body a little to face him.
" Aren't you partnering with Cody? I asked. Cody had already made his way across the room. He did that weird bro hug with another guy.
"You and I are partners. I'll go get the assignment" Erin winked before swiftly getting out of the seat. I gulped my mind slowly processing what the hell happened.
Was I really going to partner with him?
The rest of the class moved on awkwardly. We had to discuss which topic we wanted to focus on. We also had to figure out a schedule so we could discuss, should we ever need to. I immediately said my house was off-limits since I wasn't sure how Ms. Freckles would feel.
Even though she was familiar with him. I didn't want to face any crazy suspicions she had.
The bell finally rang and I dashed out like my feet were on fire. I had a free period next so I made my way towards the library. I sat in my usual seat by the window, taking out a book I had been reading.
I wasn't even a sentence finished when a furious Amy came stopping my way. Her dark curled locks were pulled back into a ponytail. The loud thumping of her boots caused several stares our way.
"Why the hell have you been ignoring my texts"?! She growled loudly causing the librarian to give us a dirty look. I instantly pulled her down in the seat next to me.
" This is a library, Amy"! I whisper yelled not trying to cause any more attention. She narrowed her almond eyes and crossed her arms tightly.
"Answer the question Janet! You've been acting weird since the party". She didn't back down at all as she looked at me without blinking.
I combed a hand through my fringe. " Listen could we talk about this some other time? Now is really not the time for this". With an eyebrow raised, she rolled her eyes with annoyance.
"Fine. But don't think you're getting out of this". She gathered her bag and left immediately after. I breathed a sigh of relief.
What did I get myself into?
