The next day, I woke up seeing my tiny standee of Jack sitting on top of my bedside table.
"Good morning...", I whispered to the lifeless paperboard with a relentless snow-white smile.
This is how my day usually starts... being surrounded by hundreds of fan merch that I bled for. Every single one mattered to me... Geez, I even framed the wrappers of the chicken wings that Dad bought (which Jack advertises). I don't even understand why he actually liked those chicken wings. There's nothing even special about it.
I dragged myself out of bed with disgust at my morning breath and hair. By this time, I would have gone to the bathroom already... And I'm going to be late again.
Wait, the last day was yesterday...
I glanced at my phone... June 3 it says...
Summer. Is. Here.
I had a wide grin as I went downstairs, leaving Anna looking at me very suspiciously.
"Hey, Els.", she waved her hands in front of me. "Are you okay?"
"It's summer.", I exclaimed. "Finally."
"You mean it's finally your most hated season of the year?", she asked and grabbed the Cinnamon Toast Crunch box.
"Well, yeah, but vacation starts today.", I said.
Anna glanced up at the ceiling and giving out a sigh, "Oh yeah..."
Soon, Daddy goes out of the bathroom saying, "Elsie, would you please get the mail?"
I dropped my spoon and headed out the door, "Okay, Daddy."
The only thing that I hated about summer was the heat. I mean, really... The heat is something that always bothered me, but for Anna, it's basically her territory. For Vera Lynn, I think she's more of a spring/fall girl. She loves watching flowers bloom, and maple leaves change color. Aaand, she's boho chic inspired, and I'm the preppy princess-y type, and Anna is somehow a rainbow hipster... more of a hippie now I guess.
I stepped outside and took in the heat. The sun was up in the sky, showering bright orange light on the pavement of our block.
From afar, I can see Robin in his usual perch... I mean porch... strumming his guitar. He glanced up and smiled in my direction. And most probably, all he saw was me frowning under the sun's relentless glare.
The bright red mailbox caught my sight, with its blue flag up. I opened it and saw three envelopes...
All three are bills.
My heart sinks every time I hand these envelopes to Daddy. Sometimes I feel like we're too much of a burden for him now. I think Vera Lynn thinks of this more than I do, and that's the reason why she wanted to go to college and pursue a career that might give us more than what we need.
"Hey Els!", Robin's voice came echoing from afar. "Let's go to the Smoothie Shack with Punzie later this afternoon."
"Sure.", I shouted back before heading back inside our house.
"Anything new?", Daddy asked me as I handed him the bills.
I looked down, "Just bills, Daddy."
His face fell for a moment, "Well, that's okay. I can handle this, Elsie. No problem."
He turned away, scratching the back of his head...
I sat on the couch right next to Vera Lynn.
"Bills again?", Vera asked me. I nodded.
She sighed, "Someday, when I finally finish school, I'm going to give Daddy and Anna a better life."
"We both will, Veer.", I told her.
She gives me a hopeful smile and a hug, "I'm gonna miss you."
"Me too.", I reply. "I surely can't do the least things you do for us."
She hugs me tighter, "Naw, you can do it 'lil sis. We're only a year apart."
"But I feel like you're so much older and more mature... and that's what I'll never be.", I sighed.
"Well, I may not be overly-attached to a pop star, but I know you are as wise and as brave as I am, Elsie.", she added.
"Thanks, Veer.", I smiled.
"Oh, Elsie, darling.", Daddy calls me over. "There's one more envelope addressed to you."
"To me?", I asked. No one could possibly send me letters.
Not even Grandma Glee... Well, she does, but if she did send one, then Vera Lynn and Anna would also get one.
"Who is it from?", I asked him.
Daddy squinted at the back of the envelope, "It doesn't say, hun."
He gave me the envelope, and I did a close inspection of the stray mail.
Light blue, smells like paper.
"I never sent... anythi-", and it hit me. "The letters you sent, Dad."
"You mean the one I sent to that guy, James was it?"
"Jack.", I replied. "He couldn't have sent me back a letter."
"Why not just go and see for yourself?", Vera Lynn approached us with a cheeky smile.
My heart was pounding against my chest, and my ears blocked away everything for that moment.
Could he have replied?
He absolutely can't... I mean, there's a million letters there sent to him, and I can't be part of that lucky batch he absent-mindedly fished out of the sack.
I ripped the envelope, and a photograph of a cute basset hound fell on the floor.
Hiccup...?
My eyes trailed towards the end of the letter...
From, Jack
I feel like fainting... I can't... This is not supposed to happen.
Jack and Elsa
My tears started streaming down my cheeks. No, this can't be.
I brought out my pen and paper the moment I finished reading his letter. I still cannot believe that the Jack Frost actually wrote back to me, and I do not think I could ever write back as nonchalantly as I did back then.
But I still will.
Dear Jack,
I never knew this day would come. I never imagined my letters being sent out of my suitcase, delivered to you, and you reading it. And you didn't just read one, but you read all of them... all in one big gulp.
I cannot apologize enough for sending you these junk. It really wasn't my plan to send these to you, since I knew that you would never fish them out...
But you did.
Jack, I really cannot express the extreme gratitude I have for you writing back. And I think you can see I'm trying to be all proper in my writing now, since I know you're sure to read this one again. Aaaand, I still feel very awkward about this situation...
I do not know if you are laughing at this letter right now, but please... Thank you so much for replying back and everything. I really want to tell you about how I blessed this letter with tears this day. I just cannot believe it.
And yes, this won't reach to anyone at all, not even my friend Rapunzel who is a die-hard fan of yours as well. Thanks for keeping this a secret with me... even if I don't feel as special and as worthy to keep it with you.
I knew you had a dog named Hiccup! I know you don't tell it to anybody... but I just have this weird feeling of remembering you and a dog. It's very strange that I could see this in my dreams...
Anyway, I really want us to talk easier... so I attached my email address here. If you think it's too creepy, that's all fine with me.
It's okay if you can't reply to me anymore. Just once is enough for me.
But would you reply, one last time? I promise after that I'll let it go.
Love,
Elsa

I never thought that answering chicken wings-related questions could be out-bored by the press conference that we had.
The media was asking about how was our film doing, and I'm just sitting right here trying to know about something I just knew yesterday.
Hundreds of flashing lights blurred my eyes, and the people won't seem to stop asking questions.
"Mr. Frost,", another one spoke out. "Is there a romantic connection between you and Miss Paisley?"
I looked over at Deandra, who was sitting beside me shrugging. She quickly fluffed her already-perfect blonde hair and gave the cameras a dazzling smile.
She bugs me, seriously, but she is nice... although she would create as many rumors as she could only to make her famous.
"No, there isn't. Andi and I are just friends.", I said to the crowd. Deandra looked over at me with a look saying, Can't you just play along?
But I can't. I stand up for the truth, and I wouldn't date anyone like her.
The media averted their focus onto Deandra, "What can you say about this Miss Paisley?"
Deandra showcased her flirty giggle, and flipped her hair onto the side, "Well, right now there isn't, but we don't know what will happen."
That totally was the last bomb. I gave up in the press conference, and miraculously, they decided to end it as well. We were still up for a few photoshoots, but the crew still wasn't decided on where we should shoot the movie.
They were thinking of a nice cozy place far away from the West Coast, but whatever they decide, I'll stick to that.
A day passed by, and it was another manic Monday. These were the days when I get a whole shower of fan mail from a lot of girls.
But I'm only excited for one letter.
"Hey, Manny.", I said to him, who was sorting out the envelopes on my coffee table. "Could you find a floral one?"
"Floral, what?", He asked me. "Did you reply to a fangirl?"
"Well, I did, and I wanted to know what she replied.", I told him.
He stood up, picking up a few random envelopes, "You really don't have to reply back to her again, Jack. Are you looking for a penpal, or something? All we need is a picture of your reply from their Twitter accounts, and that is it. You're gonna blast off to the top."
I shook my head, "I just want to know her."
"Jack, she's just another one of them. She doesn't really love you for who you are. She likes you because you're handsome, and everything they imagine you to be.", he said.
I ignored him, and continued to dig the pile of envelopes, 'till I see her familiar soft handwriting.
I opened it up carefully, seeing an attachment to it...
Well, emailing her would be better... since I wouldn't have to wait an entire day for her reply.
I got my laptop and started typing away a reply.

I still couldn't get over the fact that I received a letter from Jack. I just couldn't stop thinking about it, and the fact that I couldn't share it with anyone else makes me feel like I'm going to explode like a time bomb.
Not to mention how many times I have regretted writing those letters to him again. If it were never sent out, then I wouldn't be so conscious about my replies to him anymore. I would be so genuine.
But then again, if Daddy hadn't sent them, then I wouldn't ever get a reply from him.
I checked back on my email to see if he had replied, but alas, no new mail.
Just more updates from DC Universe.
"This is stupid.", I tell myself. "He will never reply."
"Gee, sis. Give it more time.", Anna says. "Maybe he's busy with a lot more stuff."
"I'm stupid, Anna.", I replied. "Maybe he's just never going to reply back. Maybe it was just a one-time show."
Vera Lynn enters the room with a face that started to crumble. She flopped her head onto her bed, and soft sniffles echoed in the room.
I approached her and whispered, "Veer, are you okay?"
"I broke up with him.", she said between sobs.
"You what?!", Anna almost shouts.
If there is anyone lucky in love, it is Vera. She had the most loving boyfriend of all damn time, Gale. They were perfect for each other. Veer was the sugar, and Gale was the spice.
Even Daddy figured that they were so perfect that they would marry each other in the end.
But what ever happened to that piece of forevermore?
"I couldn't handle a long-distance relationship.", she said. "And I know our separation was inevitable."
"We didn't.", I told her. "We thought you guys would really end up together."
"No, it's just a high school thing.", she said.
I held her hand, "Vera, you know it was so much more than that."
She looked away, "I did what I thought was right. I need to focus on college."
"Vera. Think about yourself and what makes you happy for a change.", I tell her with a hug.
She's been so strong. She's been holding on for so long.
She needs to know that letting go and lying back for once would do good for her.
In the evening, I finally get an email from him.
My heart was pounding again. My hands were shivering, and my teeth started jittering.
FROM: [email protected]
SUBJECT: One Last Time
Why would you think I'd only give a one-time reply to you? :D
Didn't I just say that I wanted to talk to you... and know you? :P Anyway, no need for the formality here.
And my real name is Jackson, don't you go spreading that on Twitter.
Oh, and speaking of names, why Elstarfire?
Well, I guess we're not going to be friends in that fandom. I'm a Marvel boy.
Reply back soon, and don't worry. I'm online 24/7
From, Jack :)
