Dear Purity

~~~~~~~~~ooo~~~~~~~~~
Poet's Note: 2020... my, oh my, what a year! And if it attests to anything, it is that this world is painful, broken, and slowly crumbling along with society. Depressing, I know, but sadly, quite true. And while "Dear Purity" doesn't address a global pandemic exactly, it does speak to another problem we all face upon a day-to-day basis: insecurity. We've all tried to be something we're not, at some point or another, and a lot of my other poems are written around that topic. However, this one in particular is focused on the corruption and evil in the world, all the bad things we endure, and how our joy and innocence tend to slowly diminish away. But accepting reality doesn't mean we can't remain pure! Only that we cannot let this broken, corrupted world taint our spirits, beauty, and passion. Because that is the kind of power society cannot afford to ignore.
Dear Purity,
Life is art, art of living,
Colors and textures in blending;
Masterpieces by the paintbrush molding,
Forming each graceful stroke, soon perfecting.
A blank canvas for the craftsman,
To become a new shining emblem;
Displaying work of flawless perfection,
Reality of the imagined.
Inspiration brought into life,
Hours of labor to make just right;
Slowly but surely, all through the night,
And in the morning, the product pleases the eyes.
Etching from a thought onto paper,
From dust to an image of creation;
Pixels arranged to formulate the big picture,
Emerging medium to materialization.
Hidden away, concealed in the workshop,
Until the right moment to show off;
Buried beneath a blanket, dreamed up,
Anticipation till the secret is let out.
Tension mounting, spirits rising,
Passing the time with daydreaming;
Careful of smearing, chipping, or of peeling,
Holding it together for the great unveiling, revealing.
On with the show, act's a go,
Crowd on the tips of their toes;
So brave, confident, fearless, bold,
The moment you've been waiting for.
Open the door, one final breath,
Today all the rumors will end;
Silenced as the truth is at hand,
Right now, stand out, it all comes down to this.
But the cheers, the applause,
No fire or even spark in their shouts;
Coated in a vibe, a sensation that's off,
Heartbeat dropped as its thrumming source falls.
Anger pounding, shaking the floors,
Frozen, a mob vibrating to form;
Rocks between their hands, back and forth,
All the praises more an envious roar.
So much hard work, toiling ceaseless,
All the joy, the pride, torn down in a feverish;
Broken and pierced by the same pieces,
Come back to haunt you, the purity of your innocence.
Taking each blow 'cause you've got nowhere to turn,
Friends and family in the scoffers, alone;
Wishing you had somewhere to run to, call home,
But if you knocked no one would answer the door.
Your whole mountain crashing down, crushing dreams,
Everything you've believed, trickery;
So foolish, manipulating ideology,
But just quite frankly idiocrasy.
The world can't love, can't accept,
Not as you are or try to pretend;
Some are just outsiders to the end,
Wandering and striving, in destiny's advent.
Society unkind to free spirits,
Mocking beauty of liberty's freedom;
Stuck in the rut of wealth, greed, selfish ambition,
Till the child learns it as the one path to achievement.
Where is the carefree of the past?
Why is the future so aghast?
Simplicity lost in the chaos, madness,
All want something, the betrayer, existence.
Look in the mirror, no longer know who you are,
Who is that reflection in the fog?
Bleeding and scarred, just like the war for you heart,
But are you really worth the struggle at all?
Price tag marked down so low,
No one wants to buy a failure;
A laughingstock, no matter where you go,
Where is that masterpiece you thought you had known?
That bird on eagle's wings in the sky,
What brought down its glorious flight?
That artist painting stars in the night,
What caused their colors to die?
And that little dreamer blissful and free,
What woke them up to reality?
The light, the fight, ambitious to be,
How did it come to this kind of pure defeat?
Purity, don't you sit there sorry,
Like this outcome is so jarring;
This sinful world's not a new oncoming,
You're not the first victim of the taunting.
Deep within this alley you hide,
Sheds more tears from more lifeless eyes;
Weary and scuffed up from this plight,
Mascara pooling like rising tide.
Cycling in, phasing out,
Moving on when all the moisture's run gone;
Can't endure the sorrow so long,
No choice but to get up, press on.
Zombies in mazes, uncaring,
Lost the will to find meaning;
A fire to burn for your gleaming,
To sign the banner of history.
Shuffling feet, every voice,
Once hid in that cave of dolorous;
Withered their blooms, beneath the noise,
A new plaster coat their last choice.
Purity, every smile's final hope,
Fearing rejection from the world;
Succumbing, continuum, try and know,
But that's why boredom's such a chore.
Trends, styles, anxious and distraught,
Why fit in when you were born to stand out?
Collage of color, a unique work of art,
Don't be ashamed, glory comes to the proud.
Self-love is not selfish,
Purity, just encourage yourself a bit;
That glee should be genuine spirit,
Teach the lesson of moral arrogance.
Getting there is half the fun,
The journey like the destination;
Hard work always pays off in sums,
Whether inside or outer refunds.
Approval just can't always befall,
Then there'd be no achievement at all;
Power's far from just divvied out,
You have to demand their applause.
Purity, there's always a decision,
It just comes down to your opinion;
What crosses your line of ethical reason?
How much moral must give to be champion?
Cause who can declare a winner of life?
No, there can't even be a tie;
Living's not a game, it's a pride,
So why do you let them paint o'er your eyes?
Does joy have to drift away with time's blow?
Along with the ignorance to trials;
We can't float in a bubble of denial,
But Purity, we can refuse to be docile!
In one bite, darkness' unleashed,
Consuming to corrupt all that dreams;
Eating at the hearts of those who keep,
But don't be beaten by its falsities!
Blame it for the loss of paradise,
This world cast from beauty's sight;
Purity, don't be terrified,
We all long to show this same power you hide!
All good things to those who wait,
You can't fix every broken in a day;
Start with the one in the mirror today,
And tomorrow they'll ask you for your secret to pain!
You're the hero, the warrior,
What nature's forces condemn you for;
Toying with their systems, just ignore,
Bringing each dreamer with you as you soar.
Captives to freedom, bound released,
Rip off those masks and just breathe;
Hold your ground, the reward you'll receive,
And have faith you won't regret breaking free.
So many colors, textures, styles, to add touch,
But your masterpiece is already finished;
A work of art, every bit, nothing to embellish,
An artist is obliged to no ultimatum.
Your dedication not fruitless in truth,
Because the evil is against all that's pure;
And there is nothing you ever have to prove,
Cause Purity-
Just don't let this world taint you.
