Dear Heaven, Jan 13, 1941
An engagement? Well I was surprised. That ring on you finger looks like it cost a fortune, I couldn't believe Dylan could afford it. I am happy for you, really, but it pains me to see you with him, I just know he can't make your eyes gleam like I can. I mean really you've only been together a few months, I would have thought you'd give it more time, though I guess with the war going on it makes sense. Frankly it's a miracle Dylan hasn't been drafted yet, and I don't want to sound rude but I feel he ought to fight. It's his duty to protect his nation and the fact that he's avoiding it seems rather selfish in my opinion. I will say my heart has been extinguished a bit when I heard you were getting married and he was planning on staying here as long as possible, not because I hate him or anything, I just because once you become a wife you won't be able to come around as often, and i'll miss you. I know I will never get married, for I don't want to be held to wifely duties. Well, unless you were to ask me that is.
My heart burns Gold and strong for you,
Luci
