October 16th
Dear Future Me,
I have a homecoming date. Yes, I, Skye Amelia Simmons, have a homecoming date. Even though it's just as friends, I have never, EVER been asked to a dance before. This is literally one of the craziest things to ever happen to me, besides almost getting run over by Levi, of course. Speaking of, Future Me, Levi is our date tonight. Crazy, right?
I remember what I've said before about him, but getting to know him as more than just the popular guy has really been something. I still can't explain it, but he's shown to be a really nice guy. I still don't know why he's so nice to me, but I must say it's been quite the breath of fresh air.
Anyway, the dance starts at seven and Levi is coming to my house at six-thirty, so I should probably start getting ready. I can't miss writing what happens tonight after the dance, but I'm confident I'm gonna have a great time. We'll see though.
Sincerely,
Past Me.

Skye stood in front of the mirror with her back turned, trying to zip herself up in her dress and failing to do so. She was able to do it the first time she tried on the dress, but now she couldn't seem to get any grasp on the zipper. Skye then ended up raising the white flag and calling her dad for help, knowing he would burst into her room in a heartbeat.
"Dad!" She yelled out. "A little help, please!"
Just as she predicted, Scott ran into the room worried as he thought something was wrong, but the moment he laid eyes on his daughter he stopped and looked at her in awe. "What's wrong, are you- oh, baby."
"Can you help zip me up?" Skye asked.
"Of course, turn around." He said, and Skye did exactly as he said. Considering her dad was a big guy, his big hands struggled with the tiny zipper at first, but he managed to zip her up, which she thanked him for.
"Thanks."
"You done getting ready?" Scott asked.
"Almost," Skye replied. "I just have to get my purse together and put on my shoes."
"When's the lucky guy coming?" Her dad questioned, attempting to wiggle his eyebrows so he could tease her about the fact that she was going with Levi. He hadn't shut up about it ever since she told him, but it was all out of happiness for her daughter.
"Levi should be here any minute." Skye rolled her eyes. At this point, she couldn't wait for this to be over, but she had a feeling that there would always be another new thing with Levi, so it wouldn't really be over, over.
"You text me if something happens, okay?" He insisted. "I'll pick you up in a heartbeat."
"I will." She nodded. Skye doubted anything bad would happen since she would be with Levi, but it was nice to know her dad had her back.
"Alright, let me go get my camera. You know I have to take pictures." Scott said.
"I know." Skye sighed. "I'll be downstairs in a minute."
"Okay, I'll be right back." Her dad said then walked out of her room, leaving the door open behind him. Classic parent move, but Skye wasn't getting changed, so she couldn't be too mad.
Skye proceeded to pull her purse out of her closet, digging through it to see if she had everything she needed. She put in a few extra items just in case though, then went to put on her shoes for the night, which were black heels that gave her a height boost. She would need it considering Levi's stature, so the future blisters would be worth it.
Just as Skye was finally finished getting ready, she heard the doorbell ring, but when she checked to see what her dad was doing, he was still digging through his things to find his camera, getting frustrated while doing so.
"God damn!" He cursed loudly. "Where's this stupid camera-"
"I'll get the door!" Skye yelled to make her dad's life easier.
"Okay!" He yelled back, then Skye carefully headed downstairs to get the door.
Skye opened the door to see Levi all dressed up with a small box in hand, and he immediately got flustered the moment he laid eyes on her. She managed to keep her cool, however, and happily greeted Levi while her dad was still trying to find his camera upstairs.
"Hi!" She grinned. "Nice tie."
"Why thank you, my mom helped me find it," Levi said as he was attempting to keep his cool. The smooth talk was always the way to go when you're Levi Daniels, that's for sure.
"Go, Mrs. Daniels." Skye giggled. "Why don't you come in?"
"Well, why don't I?" He chuckled then took a step inside, getting out of the way so Skye could shut the door. "You look amazing, by the way."
"Thanks, you too." She blushed.
Their little flirty moment got interrupted by Skye's dad heading down the stairs, immediately getting excited to see Levi as the two have become friendly since the last time he was at their home. "Levi, my man!"
"Hey!" Levi exclaimed, then the two proceeded to do a handshake, one that Skye had absolutely no clue about.
"You guys have a handshake?" She raised an eyebrow. It was too good to be true, and yet she saw it happen right in front of her with her own eyes.
"We established one when he came over the time you were sick," Scott said, and Levi nodded in agreement.
"I have no words right now," Skye replied, still trying to wrap her head around the fact that Levi and her dad were friends.
"Oh, by the way, I got you this," Levi said, handing Skye the small box. She opened it up to see a wrist corsage, looking down at it in awe as she wasn't expecting it nor did she realize this was a thing in regards to having a date to a dance.
"Such a gentleman." Skye's dad cooed. Now, Scott's expectations for Levi were already pretty high, but boy was he amazed.
"Gotta thank my mom for that." Levi blushed. Thank you, Sandra, thank you.
"Why don't you put the corsage on and then we'll take a few pictures?" Scott asked.
"Alright." Skye sighed, dreading the awkwardness that is taking pictures for your dad.
Levi took the corsage out of its box and carefully placed it around her wrist, feeling his cheeks burn up like crazy as he did. Skye looked down at her hand, pleased with the corsage, then got ready to take photos with Levi.
"Okay, give me a real smile, Skye." Her dad teased.
"Dad." She said, giving her dad the death glare. This was exactly why she didn't want to do this, but she knew she had to if it meant satisfying her father.
"Just imagine Hunter getting tackled," Levi said, which made Skye immediately burst into laughter. "Boom."
Skye's dad took the opportunity to quickly take pictures as it would be the only time Skye would give him a real smile, but he wasn't done yet. He needed way more pictures if he was going to documents Skye's first date. "Do a little pose, you two."
"Let's do like a Charlie's Angels pose." Levi proposed, and Skye immediately agreed to the idea.
"Yes!"
After taking the last few pictures, Scott left the two off the hook for the night, letting Skye and Levi get on their way to the dance. "Amazing. You two have fun tonight, okay?"
"I'll have her home by eleven," Levi said, which was perfectly fine with Scott.
"Bye, dad!" Skye waved as the two walked out hurriedly in anticipation to leave.
"Bye! Have fun!" Her dad waved back, then shut the door behind them.
Levi helped Skye down the steps as she was in heels, holding onto her hand as she carefully took each step. If it wasn't so dark out she wouldn't be struggling, but it was a good thing she had Levi's hand to cling onto for dear life.
The two walked to the car, and Levi opened the passenger door for Skye, trying his best to be a gentleman. Well, more of a gentleman than usual. "Your carriage for the night, m'lady."
"How fancy, thank you." Skye blushed, then got into the car, having Levi shut the door for her once she got inside okay.
Levi hopped into the driver's seat, buckling himself in then starting the car, making sure Skye was ready to go before he drove off into the night. "You buckled in?"
"Yup." She nodded.
"Let's rock this dance then."
•••
Skye and Levi walked into the dance arm in arm, seeing at least a hundred people in the gymnasium already. With the lights dimmed and every corner not lacking in a single decoration, the school truly outdid themselves with this year's homecoming.
"Woah," Skye whispered, looking around at the surroundings in amazement.
Her little moment was ruined by the football team who noticed them walk in, which made her tense up and become extremely uncomfortable. For a moment she almost forgot everything, well, everything besides Levi. "Look, the captain's here! With a babe!"
"I'm already uncomfortable and I just stepped in." She cringed.
"I'll talk to the team to satisfy them for like a minute while you find the group and then I'm all yours for the rest of the night, deal?" Levi proposed, and the answer was an immediate yes from Skye.
"Deal. Deuces, loser." She said, letting go of Levi and walking away to find their friends (yes, their friends), who she found quickly as it wasn't hard to do so considering how much of a standout Xavier was.
"Skye's here!" Xavier exclaimed, pointing to her, and everyone there immediately got excited upon her arrival.
"Hey!" Skye waved.
"Where's Levi?" Was the question everyone had. Of course, they all knew Levi famously asked Skye to the dance with him, and they expected some Skye and Levi action, so where was it?
"Does that answer your question?" She scoffed, pointing to Levi who was chest bumping his fellow players. Ya know, just classic guy stuff.
"Man, they worship him like he's a god," Xavier said. "It's so lame."
"Right?" Skye laughed. It was pretty weird how Levi's teammates idolized him, but considering his skills, Skye could see how they look up to him.
To Skye's surprise, Nini walked up to the group and wrapped her arms around Danny, but immediately interrupted her own sentence and for excited when she saw Skye standing right there. "Babe, I just requested the Cupid- oh my god!"
"Nini, I didn't know you'd be here!" Skye exclaimed, immediately going to hug Nini, who had the same idea in mind.
"Um, hello!" Nini sassed, letting go of Skye to talk to her. "Of course I'd make Danny drag me here!"
"You look amazing!" Skye squealed.
To be honest, Nini looked drop-dead gorgeous. Instead of her previous box braids, she opted for silky waves that were tied up in a tight, flawless ponytail without a single hair not slicked back. Like usual though, her makeup looked as if a professional did it, but she did it all herself. Let's not get started on the dress though. Just like her, it was perfect.
But off the topic of Nini's look for the night, the almost Disney Princess-like teen just had to get the scoop on Levi, most importantly his current whereabouts. "Shut up, so do you! Where's Levi, by the way? Or should I say your date?"
"Relax." Skye rolled her eyes. Of course, Nini would be the one to pry, but frankly, Skye wanted to have the night be as normal as possible. "Neither of us had a date and he asked me to go as friends so I agreed. No big deal."
"What's no big deal?" Levi asked out of nowhere. He had just gotten back from talking with his teammates, so his sudden appearance came to everyone's surprise.
"Levi!" Nini jumped, then noticed how the two's outfits coordinated. "Oh my god, you guys are matching. I might melt."
"That's enough of that." Danny chuckled, putting his hand over Nini's, but not for long as he felt really bad doing it. He just knew she was kind of making Skye and Levi uncomfortable, and Nini knew it was becoming a problem if Danny had to say something.
"Everyone's looking good," Levi said to change the subject and ease the awkwardness. He wasn't lying when everyone looked good though.
"I think I'm best dressed." Xavier bragged, taking in the moment to unbutton his white button-up shirt that showed a Superman shirt underneath. He had been waiting for this moment, and he wasn't going to let the opportunity pass him.
"Dressed up for anyone special?" Levi questioned Xavier. "A Lois Lane of your own, perhaps?"
"I wish." He sighed. "Hunter and I are bachelors tonight."
"Yeah, I'm tryna pull all the ladies," Hunter smirked, which made Skye cringe to no end.
"Yikes." She said under her breath.
"Watch out, Daniels, I might steal your date." He winked. Yeah, as if that would happen. Skye would rather die than receive even the slightest bit of affection from him.
"Good luck with that." Skye rolled her eyes.
The group's conversation was interrupted when Nini's song request, the Cupid Shuffle, began playing, and she immediately got excited and dragged everyone with her to the dance floor. "They put on my song! Come on, guys!"
"You know how to dance?" Levi asked Skye as they followed the group.
"Seriously?" She questioned. "I should be asking you that."
"Whoops." He awkwardly chuckled.
The two joined all the students who decided to dance along, then quickly began the steps as everyone else danced in coordination. Skye looked down at both her and Levi's feet to make sure she wouldn't bump into him or trip in her heels, hence what she was about to say to Levi in a sassy tone.
"I hope you have rhythm," Skye said, eyeing him up and down.
"Please, I've been dancing to this song at dances since the fifth grade." Levi scoffed, but little did he know that Skye would one-up him to the point where he couldn't think of a single comeback.
"Oh yeah?" She raised an eyebrow. "I've been dancing to this song at cookouts since I could walk."
Levi couldn't argue with that, so all he could do was slyly change the subject a little whilst trying to keep up with everyone else, but mostly Skye. "Ya know, I can never understand how girls queen able to dance in those heels."
"I didn't learn overnight, lemme tell you that." Skye giggled, now doing the kick part of the dance, putting in more effort than most of the girls in high heels combined. Even Nini looked over at her impressed that she didn't end up breaking her ankle or something.
"Well, I'm impressed either way," Levi replied.
"Why thank you." She blushed, although the dim lighting didn't make it obvious.
"I'll catch you if you fall though." He smirked, referring to the time at the mall. If it weren't for the rained on pavement, she wouldn't have needed his saving in the first place.
"I doubt I will, but thanks." Skye sassed, turning around in unison like everyone else with Levi now behind her.
"If they play Cotton Eye Joe tonight, just know I'll out dance you." Levi leaned over and whispered, almost bringing a chill down her down, but she stayed strong.
"Oh, please." She rolled her eyes.
"You wanna bet?" He proposed.
"You bet your ass I do," Skye said, whipping her head around with a determined look on her face.
"You're on, Simmons," Levi replied.
Now with the dance in full swing, even with a small bet included, this was merely the calm before the storm, a storm that neither Levi nor Skye would anticipate for. They were too focused on having fun, but the fun couldn't last forever.
