History

(Y/n) never listened to anything that the teacher taught.

For nearly the whole duration of the first lesson, her bleary, vacant eyes were fixed on the board, but didn't seem to see anything that had been written. When revision papers were passed on during the last lesson, she robotically answered the questions but not to completion because in the middle of it, her mind strayed away back to her issues.

No matter how much she tried to concentrate, she still couldn't catch a break from her tormenting thoughts. Just when she thought things between her and Midoriya were finally smoothened out, she goes ahead and makes a fool of herself in front of him, flinging them both back to the drawing board. Then there's Satori, who somehow managed to override everything she thought she knew about Katsuki's motives and in the process, make her question herself if Satori genuinely wanted to help her or just flat out attack her. Uraraka, how could she forget, they hadn't spoken much since they got off the bus, which was unlike them. And finally, Katsuki, the official pain in her butt.

(Y/n) let out a fatigued sigh as she continued staring at the half-finished paper on her lap. The tip of her pen hovered above a question's unanswered space without any signs of movement. She looked up from the paper and her heavy-lidded eyes roamed around the class. Everyone else was busy with their question paper, with the sounds of hushed whispers and rustling of papers being flipped reigning dominant.

Unwillingly, her eyes zeroed in on the back of Katsuki's head and she thinned her lips as the memory of near fight in the hall flashed in her mind.

As human nature dictated, it wasn't uncommon for a person to want to shift the blame on another person or circumstance whenever things didn't go their way. It's meant to be a defense mechanism to protect their ego and reduce the stress placed on them. Thus why (Y/n) blamed Katsuki for everything happening to her, whether he was involved directly or indirectly. She didn't care. Besides, it would only be fair since he was blaming her for his feelings and demanded that she take responsibility.

If he even has genuine feelings for her that is.

Even so, as much as she fully wanted to blame Katsuki, a small part of her maintained the fact that she too shared in the blame. And if that small part of her was right and both Satori and Katsuki were correct to call her delusional, then did that mean that she had dealt with everything the wrong way? Should she had confronted her issues earlier on instead of ignoring them, allowing them to heap up until she couldn't deal with them any longer?

Come to think of it, the only reason why she ever did ignore her problems was because of Satori:

-Satori, I think I have a crush on Midoriya...remember him? Also, should I confess? Freckles? Yeah, I do. Damn, you work fast. And no, don't confess until you're sure he likes you too. Remember what happened last time?

-Satori, for some reason Katsuki started acting weird, he keeps pulling my hair, tripping me and insulting me, what do I do? Nothing, (Y/n). Ignore him. He'll stop when you don't react to him. You know what a fucking attention seeker he is.

-Satori, so I kinda figured out that Katsuki may have feelings for me. What? Ew, just brush him off. Don't act like you care.

-Satori, Katsuki cornered me during today's activity and did something that I didn't like. What do I do? Ugh, what's his problem? He's so annoying! Can't he just give up when he's rejected? Avoid him for the whole weekend.

-Satori...Katsuki and I argued and I accidentally confessed to Izuku, which didn't go so well. Oh, honey. I'm so sorry. I told you not to confess, didn't I? You just don't listen, do you? Anyway, give yourself some space, you need it so, don't do anything. Both you and Freckles are a bit tense from what happened, so talking this soon will only ruin things. DON'T TALK TO HIM. AND FUCK KAKAHOE

Nearly everything she did, every decision she made, Satori was behind most of it all.

But due to how things have been turning out, maybe listening to Satori's advice wasn't the best way to go about it...?

Speaking of Satori, she still hadn't said a single word to her since lunch ended. Although there had been a few attempts from the former to engage her in a conversation, (Y/n) would immediately shut them down by ignoring her or just nodding. She wasn't in the mood to talk to her yet. No, she didn't want to talk to her yet. She had gone against her wishes to confront Katsuki and then went ahead to throw his past traumatic experience back to his face. Who on earth did that?

Within the four years that she had been friends with Satori, she had come to know her as someone who never minced their words and unapologetically spoke their mind out. Despite that, that still didn't give her a valid excuse to go so far despite her strong feelings against Katsuki. It was simply wrong.

And about what she said about Katsuki? (Y/n) didn't know what to think of that. Was it criticism, concern, or just plain bullying? Like, what the fuck?

Either way, that didn't mean that she was going to ask Satori about it. And she wasn't going to call her out either because Satori would get defensive about it and counter her by saying that she was still defending Katsuki. All in all, it would be a tiring conversation, one (Y/n) didn't have the energy to have.

Sighing once again, (Y/n) looked down at her paper. From the periphery of her eye, she could see Satori busy filling out her question paper. Well, at least she had stopped sending her those secretive glances when she thought (Y/n) wasn't looking.

Honestly, she hated to think about it but, sometimes she wondered how and why she became best friends with Satori in the first place. She did know when though, and that was when Satori helped her get over Katsuki's rejection.

In fact, before that, (Y/n) never really liked her as much. She used to see her as a mean person who'd constantly take a jab at her, call her boring, pry into her life and make her do things she didn't want to do. The only reason why she even tolerated her was because Mei, bless her angel heart, had begged both her and Shiori to be nice to Satori since no one else wanted to be her friend. It was pretty obvious as to why no one did and as much as she was against the idea, (Y/n) half-heartedly accepted Mei's request and thus Satori's addition to their friend group.

As time went by, (Y/n) slowly got used to her personality. It wasn't easy but she managed to. What she didn't manage to do though yet, was become close with her. Try and try again Satori did, but (Y/n) just didn't let it happen.

Then came the unforeseen rejection and Satori came swooping down out of nowhere to be her shoulder to lean on. And that was when (Y/n)'s perspective of her suddenly changed. At first she was skeptical, because why would she care about what she was going through when they weren't even that close to begin with.

But as time went by and Satori remained relentless on her endeavor to help her, her doubts slowly dissipated one by one into thin air and she finally let her in. From total dislike to plain tolerance, Satori became her steady rock, the person she'd count on to make her feel better when thoughts about Katsuki came rolling in, the first person she'd tell all her problems to, someone she couldn't say no to, her Lifeline.

Their relationship had done a full 180 and for a time, (Y/n) was fully convinced that she had misjudged Satori by not giving her the chance not to get to know her well.

That thought process didn't last very long.

Eventually, (Y/n) got over Katsuki, meaning that she was finally able to handle herself without Satori being there for her like before. They still hanged out with Shiori and Mei like they used to, and for a while, it started to feel like all meaning to Satori and (Y/n)'s relationship had ended. (Y/n) was back to normal and they were about to finish school in a few months. All was right in the world.

But not in (Y/n)'s world.

Day by day, she had started noticing things she hadn't noticed before. Like the fact that Satori hadn't changed, not one bit. That knowledge slightly peeved her and she had tried to rid herself of those feelings but no matter how much she tried, they always remained at the back of her skull, nagging her. She never mentioned it anyone, not even Satori.

Ultimately, they finished Junior High and like any person who didn't want to separate from their best friend would do, Satori tried to convince (Y/n) to apply to Isami too.

(Y/n) declined.

She didn't know what made her refuse but at that time, saying no to her had never felt so right.

Satori, for a lack of better word, was pissed. Never before had she yelled at (Y/n) but she did. She went on ahead to call her ungrateful for wanting to leave her after everything they had been through and that she was being a bad friend when all she was, was be good to her. (Y/n) didn't reply. A major part of her screamed at her to make things right and to listen to Satori, the person who had made sacrifices for a year so that she could get better.

(Y/n) listed to her minor part.

After that argument, they didn't talk for weeks. (Y/n) didn't regret her decision, not one bit.

However, that didn't mean that she had another high school in mind to apply to. Even after finishing middle school, she still hadn't decided on which career field to venture in. Her parents, specifically her mother, was insistent on her pursuing a hero career so she chose to go with that. But even so, she still had no idea which hero school she would choose.

Somewhere along the way of deciding, she managed to recall her first conversation with Katsuki, and even though she was joking about applying to U.A, she picked the school and tried her luck. She got in. Heroism was also a career, albeit dangerous, it paid well.

A week later after starting the new semester, (Y/n) started to miss Satori and she hated how she had left things unsolved. So choosing to put her pride aside, she texted her so that they could mend things between them. She ended up apologizing, Satori didn't.

They remained best friends but it wasn't the same for (Y/n). For once in a long while, she felt more relaxed with Satori so far away from her. Maybe it was the fact that she didn't have to endure Satori's strong personality every day or the fact that she didn't have to feel like she was walking on eggshells every time she interacted with her, she didn't know.

She loved Satori, hell, she was one of the few people who knew her well enough to be considered family. But sometimes she was so tiresome to deal with and (Y/n) would often feel like she was bending over backward just to make her happy...

She didn't want to think about it. She didn't want to address it.

But if she were being truly honest with herself, was she still best friends with Satori because she wanted to?... Or simply because she felt indebted to her?...

Satori, on the other hand, was fucking livid.

She glanced at the girl beside her for the nth time. She was staring at something at the front of the class with a pensive look on her face. Something seemed to be on her mind that time, as it has been since she came back to class. Although, that was the least of her concerns.

What concerned her the most was that (Y/n) was still giving her the silent treatment and it was starting to bother the fuck out of her. Sure they've had their shares of arguments before and they've gone for a few hours if not weeks without talking to each other. But those times were different and the reasons were valid, even though some were meager disagreements that could be easily solved. But fighting over a boy? Especially if that boy was Katsuki? That was just plain stupid.

She could literally come up with a million topics she'd rather fight over with (Y/n) any day than fight about him. And that wasn't all. She still couldn't get over the fact that (Y/n) had defended Katsuki.

That wasn't the same (Y/n) she had gone to Junior High with. The (Y/n) she knew would have listened to her, wouldn't have defended Katsuki, would have left her to handle things and not gotten between them. The (Y/n) she knew was always on her side through and through. She owed her that for fuck's sake.

She was right from the very beginning. It was a bad idea to let her go to a different school. She shouldn't have let her. She didn't want to think about it, but ever since they finished middle school, Satori had begun to suspect that (Y/n) had changed and not in a good way.

It first started as a hunch when she refused to go to Isami with her. It was something she had never done in a long time, which is to say no to her. It took her by surprise and made her mad beyond words, prompting her to scold (Y/n) a little.

After giving (Y/n) some time to think about what she had done, she finally learned the error of her ways and approached Satori with an apology. And because she loved her, she forgave her and eventually brushed it off as her wanting to go to a school that wasn't far from home. A little compromise wouldn't hurt, so she allowed it and learned to live with the distance.

They continued being best friends and Satori dismissed the hunch as minor allegations since (Y/n) continued to act like herself. She updated her on her life, she asked for advice, she listened to her...(Y/n) hadn't changed at all.

Then came along Katsuki and his stupid feelings.

Her grey eyes narrowed on her paper, her lip curling up in distaste.

If she had to blame anyone for her best friend changing, it was Katsuki fucking Bakugou. If he had just kept his drama to himself, she would've remained herself.

Turning her head away from (Y/n), Satori rested her cheek on her palm and frowned at the wall.

Now that she thought about it, what was with Katsuki's odd reaction when (Y/n) came between them? Was that some kind of a sorry attempt to look good in front of her? A reform perhaps with the help of his friends? Or was that just them doing so to protect their precious school's reputation?

Well, whatever it was, she didn't like it. That precisely wasn't how she wanted the whole thing to go.

Satori's grip around her pen tightened and she clenched her jaw.

Katsuki was supposed to go ballistic on her, in front of (Y/n), so that she could finally see that Katsuki was a destructive person all round and that he was willing to hurt her Lifeline. But it wasn't like she would've gotten hurt anyway. Any damage he'd have directed to her, would've been redirected to him, thanks to her awe-worthy Quirk.

But that wasn't what fucking happened.

Instead, (Y/n) had to go all fucking prince charming and sacrifice herself for no reason while Katsuki's friends stopped him in the nick of time. And to add salt to the injury, instead of shoving her out of his way like he would've back in middle school, the asshole had the audacity to back off! Like, what the fuck?

There is a saying that goes; "Time heals griefs and quarrels, for we change and are no longer the same persons. Neither the offender nor the offended are any more themselves". But if that were to be true, did it mean that Katsuki had actually changed for the better?...and did that saying apply to (Y/n) as well?

Oh please. A smirk appeared on Satori's face and she huffed out a silent amused scoff. As if Katsuki would change. What am I, an idiot?

The girl straightened up and leaned back in her chair. Crossing her arms across her chest, a determined look clouded her features.

If that was Katsuki's goal in the long run, to change his ways so that (Y/n)'s tainted image of him would be wiped off clean, then he better give up. No matter how much he tried, he'll never, ever get her forgiveness.

Especially not if she had anything to say about it.
